This is so fun. After we spoke yesterday I watched some of the videos, the same handful of videos that are available that I’ve watched before, and I thought about having to clean it!! Glad to see they have that thing to help clean it. The older the clay or slip the better! Aged clay is much more plastic than new!! To get the water off the top use a clean dry sponge!! The paint brush technique is what I really want to try. It’s such a beautiful creative flower. You did so well with your first flowers!!! You used to decorate cakes didn’t you? I remembered that when I saw how amazingly well you were doing! Haha. By the way your handwriting is just beautiful!! Sorry this got so long my gosh how does that happen! Remember that when it dries it will be much less raised and smaller since the clay shrinks. When you use wet slip it shrinks a lot more because there is so much water in it. This would be awesome to write the names on the bottom part of your mugs! Try different sized brushes and with different hairs to get a little difference for the flowers too!! This was so fun!! Love it!! ❤❤❤

I agree there are so few videos o the airpen - I keep searching and finding the same ones time over. Hopefully this playlist will be helpful for others as I bumble my way through LOL. The cleaning part was so easy with the plunger. I must remember to tap out air bubbles in the tube before I add the antigravity stopper. The 2nd syringe had barely any bubbles! Didn't know about older slip the better! Interesting...wondering what you can add to make it thinker without having to add more dried clay and re-sieve. Currently just left the top off and hoping it will thicken up quickly so I can have another go. The paintbrush technique is my favourite, but I think it needs to be thicker to have more of a 3D effect, but so easy and therapeutic to do. Don't really need to change the nibs, as you can adjust the flow with the air compressor adjustable knob and the flow by taking your finger off. That was something I didn't realise initially. LOL - Yes I am professionally trained as a cake decorator - the old school techniques with royal icing and piping bags. This feels very natural to me, but more like a pencil that a piping bag. My handwriting with a piping bag was always so much more flowy than my normal handwriting. Nice to play with the sweeps and curves. I noticed the shrinkage was more than normal when I checked the boards the following day, and realised it was because there was more water content in there - that's when I decided I needed it to be thicker so it can be more raised and retain much more texture after shrinkage. Never thought about writing on the bottom of pieces....now that's a nice idea to try too! Never ending! Oh yes - different sized brushes for different flower effects! You're a fountain of knowledge and inspiration! Thanks Michele, always love your lengthy comments, they're the best!

@ Aaaw Jeanette that makes me feel so good. Thank you. I don’t mean to make them so long but I have so many things in my head! Hahaha. So glad I can help. The only way to thicken the slip without having dry to add to it is to put it in a bigger container that way it has a lot more surface area to dry. Then let it sit out. But you want to stir it occasionally or it will get lumpy and you will have to really sieve it. I sometimes even spread a bunch out on a smooth surface pretty thinly and then have a fan on it while using a pallets knife to mix it. It takes a bit but but I really love playing with it. You can also do this to glazes. I’m currently drying out some running hot chowder to see how it works!!❤️❤️❤️

@@FarForestCeramics Hi, i enjoyed the video. You did so well at explaining just what you were doing and showing what was happening with the pen. Thank you, I have never seen one of these pens before. Also, slip can be thickened by spreading it onto a plaster slab. It may be better to put some gauze on the slab, under the slip so that you can lift the slip off the slab without scraping the plaster along with the slip. You likely know that you shouldn't get plaster bits into clay or slip.🙂Thanks again, from Carol, Bobcaygeon, ON Canada

I have an air pen and I love it! If you use that screw on plunger thing, you can put it right in your slip and suck it right up into the pen. This helps not get air bubbles. You do have to get the right slip consistency but it’s worth the time to get that right. Also, leave the tips off when you fill the canisters this way.

I think the 2nd slip looks perfect not too runny. Uve made me want to get mine out again. They r sooo fun to play with. U got air bubbles because u put the red plug in but then u need to use the long thing w the red plastic hook on the end to push the plug down to compress the slip in the tube. Then put it in the air pen. Hope that makes sense. It’s not too runny I don’t think. U can colour yr slip w ug too. Haha yes celadons! That’s my fav technique too. I’ll dm u a vid if I can find it. Sent lol. U can even do it on bisque i have. U just have to be reeeeally careful not to brush or knock it off even when putting in kiln. I rebisqued before glazing and it stuck on. Isn’t it addictive?? I don’t empty my tubes I leave them full w little red caps on. U can buy more canisters from air pen too. Pearls and lacework is pretty too. I’ve done the stencil thing too works great! U can embellish transfers too. Enjoy!

I thought the 2nd slip looked ok until I saw how much it shrank the following day and the flowers didnt have as much definition as before. I think it needs to be slightly thicker and holding its shape more if I'm doing the leaf/flower style work to retain the texture and 3D effect. I realised Id trapped airbubbles the minute I started using the first syringe LOL, good idea to use the antigravity red plug to push it down, although it seemed to also work by tapping it down when I used the 2nd syringe? Ahh coloured slip - nice idea too! Thanks for sending the video - will check that out tonight! Its totally addictive, although I need to have a bit of a plan with design I think before I start on a piece LOL. Oh the unlimited list of potential projects is unreal!!! So looking forwards to playing more with this! I may become obsessed!

Hi, I understood it was a US product, and was exceptionally hard to located for delivery to the UK. Not sure where you are based. I found it on Amazon - but marked as currently unavailable. I kept searching daily for 4 months and then one day it popped up as available for delivery to UK, small stock levels. I ordered and following day all the stock had gone. This was the link I used
www.amazon.co.uk/SugarVeil-20-110K-SugarVeil%C2%AE-AirPen-Dispenser/dp/B00TXW5OCK I also considered buying from them direct - www.sugarveil.com/shop but looked like they sold via Amazon to UK stores. Hope this helps.

@janskellion3830 I think you're totally right! But I also found out since the video that I can use the plunger tool to suck up the slip too, which then doesn't give me Air bubbles! Who knew lol

Why not experiment on CLAY and fire it???

Sadly I didn't have anything in greenware stage for me to play on first time, and to be honest I was just trying to see how it worked initially. I've already thrown a piece which I am now going to use the Airpen on and take it through firing and glazing.
