Naah, with the way the cut came out I think a 2 was on point. You can see his texture and sheen better with a 2 open. The most you would want to cut his hair type is a 2 closed with that texture. 1 1/2 open would've knocked his waves off. His waves pattern is almost 2 loose for a 1 1/2. The cut you trying to give with a 1.5 is for tighter curls and textures. You can't cut every one the same. Nothing to far about this look.

Take care of it. Wash and style. Use oils and products that give it shine. Look up wash and style and clay and lay and how to deep condition waves. Anybody with full head of hair can get silky waves. You also have to wolf to bring out the definition. It’s just a combination of brushing and training the hair and also keeping hair moisturized and healthy with right products. Also hot oil treatments help
