Thanks for watching!
You are the first person I started watching when I discovered U Tube. Old school old hippie about to join the Van life. VW camper van is my DREAM home. Minimalistic style.
this is an amazing guy - he could've leveraged his community to make millions and is giving back instead
I travel a lot! Biggest problem is soooo many folks are unsafe and do a terrible job securing the load. Learn the correct way and straps to use!!! Twice this yr I have seen crap bouncing out of these things while driver obliviously motors down the interstate. Be 100% safe folks!
Please do youtube video as I think I know how but???!
Were you able to pick up any good items people lost along the highway ? Smiling here !
Your channel is so informative I've learned so much. Thanks Bob!
So happy you shared this, I have been pondering rear storage vs roof rack. I thought the rear might not be secure but now I'm better informed. Thanks!
Really nice product. Lots of potential. Most tow hitches on trucks and full size vans will support 500 pounds. Some even more. With that capacity you could build the garage on it - a big box as tall as the van!
I bought the frame after your recommendation and later bought the box which has the lights built in. Love it
That is really a great swing away rack Bob. I have one by Yakima that I bought with my annual dividend one year but I have yet to use it because the unit itself feels kind of heavy. You have motivated me to use it although I don't think my unit is as heavy duty as your Stow away unit. Great info as always thank you Bob.
Thanks so much Bob for reviewing this years later. I remember when you first got this. It's great to see It's still doing a great job. 👍🏻
Well that's a resounding 👍. So glad you tested it for so long, and are telling us about the test of time. Thanks Bob! Good health and happiness to you; hugs and kisses for Cody.
I have been watching you for years. I appreciate all your knowledge. My daughter just bought a motorhome and will be living in it. I told her to check you out for great advice and Happily she was gifted your book "How to Live in a Xar,Van or RV". Thank you for great/helpful content.
Exactly what I need. Looking into it now. GREAT VIDEO. Thank you
Thank you sir!
Thanks Bob! I'm planning on adding this to my Build out either December or January.
God bless your mom and you also be safe
Wow! Thanks so much Bob! I have a mobility scooter and am buying a van soon. I will need this!
I have one. Love it. Attached bike rack to it too.
Would you share a pic of your set-up with this carrier and bike?
@@1pipandgoose
Sure. Not sure how to attach pic. Email?
You are wonderful! So glad you started this channel!
Excellent product Review, Brother Bob!
Bob, I had the stowaway..it was great, also a swing unit, complete, no build with lights, locks, waterproof of course. Highly recommend it....Amazon.
I bought one recently (boy has the price gone up!). Your video's given me encouragement to build a similar platform with lockable storage, since Stowaway now wants $880.00 for their admittedly nice cargo box. Working limited hours at low pay makes that out-of-reach, but once again Bob, your fantastic videos have come through to ease the way ahead for so many. TY!
Thanks Bob. Good to know info.
Thanks for posting this. I've been looking for something like this 👍
You can also get a pin that locks as a further dicouragement to anyone looking to get in the back doors.
Thanks for sharing Bob
Man, this thing would be just the ticket, eh? I've been wondering about getting one eventually..... after I save for the solar, the vent fans, and new tires (lol). It's on the list, though, so thanks for the review.
That is nice ! Handy for sure and a lot of extra space. Thanks for sharing !
Thanks Bob✌❤
I've been thinking about getting one, thanks!
Very cool hitch!
Txs for the update 👍
Your van has high-mount tail lights, which are not blocked by your boxes. Good match.
Not blocking license plate either
Thanks for the review, Bob! I have a full sized Econoline van that has a hitch receiver and I almost sprang for a fixed position type cargo extension. I'm thinking this solution would be much better! Safe travels, sir ... God Bless
Great review 👍
Hello today! The sunlight is gorgeous in your video!
Fantastic. It is a perfect addition. I just pictured a large almost walk-in closet and and as you mentioned it is a pathway to the top of the van!
I love. this. I thought there was a riser on it on the other video that I watched of yours? Or I saw it somewhere else?
This is a goal. I will be buying this.
Thinking on one for my truck. More as a swing out table than storage, but storage to. Im thinking on building a box for my propane and maybe put my sink/waste water outside
More capacity with little cost or compromise. Mr. Bob Wells does it again!
I see they make swing away with cargo boxes and where you can add bicycle rack on top like a dbl decker. Pretty expensive but nice. I was thinking there would be room in front of your cargo boxes here to add a rail to secure a bicycle between the Van or suv and boxes for a fraction of the price. Good job Bob !
thank you
I have been watching for a few years now and I have noticed alot of the van livinging people are older. Have you made a video about what happens if someone were to pass away living on the road and what planning need to be made in regards to this?
@@nonyabizness.original Good idea with the numbers. Maybe a small notebook in the car glove box with some numbers and other important information. I usually have a laminated note in my wallet with a few numbers and other important information.
@@nonyabizness.original I suppose you could install a one-way pet door for the dog. As for the other thing I think you'd need a social media thing or friend or family member to call the police if you haven't checked in after a certain amount of time with a general idea of where you are and/or where you're going. There probably are better ways to approach it for all I know; it would be great if Bob made a video about it. I'd like to know too, I've had some really bad asthma attacks in my sleep and it always wakes me up but I'm sure one day I won't.
TY
BOB, what is the load weight on a rig like that? how much weight can it handle i mean? that would be great to haul a generator and pump for livestock, great video
Looks like a good thing to know about. I'm wondering if the boxes are waterproof? Thanks Bob.
you should cover key areas w dot tape
If we didn't want the beach nearby we would boondock in those areas...👍
Does exhaust heat cause the totes to warp or melt??? Looking into the same solution for camping w. Subaru and totes.... TIA for your answers... Great info :)
Nice =D
When are u going to show us how u mounted that back curtain and also can u post the amazon link to the curtain in the comments thanks!
If a person had all their house batteries in the front would that help a mini van be able to use this? It’s cool if a full camp kitchen was mounted inside, as I have no interest in cooking inside my rig, except possibly occasionally boiling water.
👍
Hi Bob, checking into Habitent for my Prius 2015. Looks like they are sold out till December. I also really like Runaway trailers. Any updates here. Will need to attach a tow bar on back. Can you update us on state park stays? I have a disability pass and will do more research. Barb/Sacramento
A slice of pool noodle could help hold that back door open. (You didn’t mention that it needs help staying open but if it does).
My question has nothing to do with the video although I currently live in a Grand Caravan and have looked at this as an option...I'm afraid the GC is too close to the ground and will scrape. I am thinking of buying a Savana but the gas mileage seems like it will be a huge cost...how is your gas mileage on the Savana?
On a 4 runner it angles the headlights. This causes oncoming cars to constantly hi beam me
Yeah I don't think the swingaway will work as well for the tiny vans...I have a 2010 transit connect and really like the idea of the swing away but I don't want to put so much weight back there, because you know that is where folks are going to want to store their cinderblock collection lol
Is a foam mattress better than air for Prius or combo-thoughts? Bob, will RTR happen next year? Really want to come out meet everyone!!!! (Bring the hot dogs/Buns!!!!) Barb/Sacramento
Takes some effort to get into the back of your van....
That's a nice platform.
I just built this but found that the entire hitch ensemble wobbles and is loose at the swing-away and cargo hitch junction.
And I can't tighten this because the swing away hitch receiver is not a standard receiver with a flared neck (in which case I could have just added a hitch tightened).
How do you account for the crazy loose wobble? I'm afraid this will fall apart in me while I'm driving some bumpy roads.
Hi Bob, just started my channel, and going west next year and look forward to meeting you someday, Thank you.
Interesting add on that makes van life more doable MrBob. Maybe with your influence the company will come out with a smaller version for minivans. The swing out feature is such a winner.
Our best wishes to your Mom - Hal
Can u give me a link to it please I can’t find the one you are talking about thank you Dottie
Maaan, ur life seems interesting and amazing nice!
How do you attach the action packers?
I saw eye bolts that he had attached to his platform, I would bet he runs straps thru the eye bolts to secure the tubs.
How well will it hold a 600 lbs load
I gotta say i am impressed at what's legal in some countries. Driving around with stuff like that behind your car, would not fly here, that's for sure, they would fine you and take it away. Dangerous if it flies off, if someone rear ends up etc.
Anyways, nice video as always :)
Why wouldn’t it work with a minivan... just swing it out and wha La👍😂
'Voila' ---- not 'wha La'......
3rd comment!
If I wanted to get into this life style. How do I become part of a traveling tribe so I'm not alone all the time. Any suggestions?
