I get Jim Beam Black Label 7yr for $20.00. And for that much I pick up a bottle whenever I go shopping... Drinks Good Neat.. In fact I'm drinking it right now... Good Stuff. Glad you got surprised..
Jim B. Bl 7 is a great mixer, tried it as a sipper but seems a bit grainy and harsh. The eagle rare is smoother and more complex, good sipper. If I had friends over, that do not know anything about bourbon.. Jim Beam all the way, but for a once in a blue moon sipper of quality, Eagle Rare.. all the way. Not sure the mashbill on these are even close, Eagle Rare is a low rye mash bill, and JB Black is high 17% rye. If you want an alternative that is cheaper than ER then I recomend Buffalo Trace's Benchmark Old No. 8 bourbon is made using Buffalo Trace's traditional mash bill #1, which has a low rye content. This mash bill is sometimes called the "Baby Buffalo Trace" mash bill. its only aged about 4 years though.. tastes of apple, spice, and sour sweetness.. mild.
I've yet to crack the beam 7. I will have the girlfriend blind this for me, so I can see. I would imagine that you can pick out the eagle between these two,but that's what blinds are for. Cheers Tim 🥃

I'm so glad you picked it up.
Sounds pretty good for that price point, and I've been hearing other positive reviews too. I might have to get one

I agree, although I find Benchmark kinda rough
