I absolutely love the new graphics, where the bottle is on-screen continuously. Well done! Looks like I need to add Jim Beam Black to the shopping list! 👍
I really enjoy the little editing tricks and touches these videos have recently been having. Doesn’t take away from the essence of the show (the back and forth, banter, and interaction with you two) but adds a level of post production investment and commitment that I can appreciate and I find adds to the watching experience and enjoyment
My favorite range. Started tonight with some Old Scout Barrel Proof, moved on to Knob Creek 9, and am finishing with some OGD BIB. And I enjoyed the hell out of all of them.
I have never been a Jim Beam guy for a Neat pour however after this, I will definitely at a bottle to my collection and give it a try. Thanks guys. Good blind this week.
Completed the blind my wife poured for me while watching your video, and Knob Creek 9 won for me tonight coincidentally. (2nd Old Bardstown, 3rd Elijah Craig Toasted and 4th Penelope Architect) Love your channel. Keep 'em coming.
I have to tell you guys. I watched all of the videos recently where you discuss Jim Beam 7. So, even though I haven’t been a Beam fan in many years, I took a chance and bought a bottle. The first pour I had, I really thought you guys sold me a pig-in-a-poke. However, after giving it a few days to open up in the bottle, I will give credit where credit is due. Jim Beam has done an excellent job on this product!!
It would have been interesting if you had the old black label in there as well. I am really curious how much difference there is between the old black label and the new 7 year
Given how similar Trenton's palate is to my own, and how much I adore Knob Creek 9, I am REALLY interested in finding a bottle of that Beam 7 whenever it comes out in my area.
I broke down and got one today. I liked it. It was $17 at my local grocery store. For the price not bad at all. My local Walmart has Sazerac on clearance for $12.58. So I picked up like 9 bottles.
SLB’s videos are the best bourbon videos on RUclips. I’m going to go pick up a bottle of the Beam 7 and give it a try, I want to get the Early Times BIB but I can’t find it in my area.
I just picked it up today because of your first review on it. Can’t wait to review it myself and see if it pushes anything out of my budget list of whiskey. Thanks guys. Been watching you guys from my TV for years now, back when Trenton was behind the camera. Great stuff guys!
I had a Bakers with age statement 8 years 2 months a few months back. I loved it, maybe because of the extra age. I will replace at some point, but looking for 8+ year again. I will be trying the Beam 7. Thanks good show as always!
I live abroad, and i can only get the old JB black (which I like. I find it simple and thin, but I enjoy the flavor, especially for the price). I will be back home in the states for the summer, and I really hope I can find the 7 year.
Great review. I love Knob Creek 9 yr old, Early Times BIB and Bakers 107 proof. I haven't seen the Jim Beam 7 yr in my area yet, but I'm really looking forward to trying it.
The only other newer bottle I have had at a value price I think might compete with it was the Issac Brothers Small Batch for right at 30ish tag. Cheers
Still haven't found beam 7 in my area but I'm excited to try it once it does show up here! I'm a huge fan of knob creek so if they're similar, even slightly better but quite a bit cheaper then I'm sure I'll love it.
Bought it and it’s delicious. Want to blind it against the black extra aged. Got mine for $21 in California. Love you guys and the videos, always super helpful.
Just picked up a Jim Beam Black 7 at our grocery store for $19.99...haven't cracked it open yet...may have to do that tonight or tomorrow...and get a backup!
I picked up a bottle of the Beam 7 the weekend before the vs. Turkey video. I've been gathering a few bottles I wanted to taste against. I'm getting more excited about cracking the seal. Randomly I poured a bit of Early Times before starting this video. lol...
Bought this bottle last weekend. Came across this showdown, I thought what the heck and well didn't pop, unscrewed for a 1st tasting. Lol it's damn good!
Picked up this Jim Beam Black after watching your first video of it (Your bargain buy videos are my cheat code!), this stuff is fantastic. You guys are my compass. Thanks for the great content!
Hey guys. I’m excited to try the new Jim Beam. Just a suggestion for Kurt. Even though he poured the blind he could have participated even more if he mixed up the glasses and did not know the exact order. Putting a label under the glass for example. Love the channel. Love your authenticity too!
Nice matchup! I have found that when I have Baker’s 7 it’s pretty nice but a small sip of Booker’s makes the B7 so much nicer? Strange but it always happens.
I love this channel as I do TJ over at Bruzel, it almost makes me cry when I see them all say that they can pick up Bottles like WT101, WTRye, Russles, Rare Breed, Eagle Rare for well under $50 and where I live in good old Down Under (Australia) majority of these bottles are minimum $100, we can’t get a 750ml bottle of Original Beam for less than $50, 50% of whatever we pay for a bottle of spirits or a case of beer goes in Taxes to the government..
How much is the bottle of the Knob Creek 9 exactly usually in the USA? In my county i don't think Jeam Beam 7 is even available yet but knob creek 9 is. Just curious.
Here where I'm staying it's lowest is 31.35$ and most is probably 35.20$ but here that expensive. Low value currency and all. Buffalo Trace is like 18.95$-21.61$ which is still expensive but not that bad.
I loved Jim Beam Black Extra Aged when i first started my Bourbon Journey way back in 2013. Its what got me into Bourbon. I cant wait to try the new release. Hopefully it stays too.
I picked up a JB 7 this week. 1.75L for $36. Extremely impressed so far. Really nice oak and vanilla flavor. Very smooth and drinkable. It's definitely punching way above its weight. New budget king? 👑
Cant find the jb7 in my area but horse soldier bourbon has a sweetness to the end. Makers french oaked has a sweetness and some mild oak but quite a bit of caramel.
I would like to have seen the Jim Beam Black Extra Aged in there as well to see how different it is. I liked the 8 year and Extra Aged, Always thought it was a good value bottle. Have not tried the 7 year yet. Will when I see it.
Hey guys, I’ve been into bourbon for almost a year, just started loving rye and want to try American single malt to see if I might dig that. What would you recommend as a good starter? I’m in Scottsdale AZ
I just found some on the shelf yesterday. Was surprised they had a 750ml, 1L, and 1.75L. Grab the big one if you see them. It is really good for a budget pour. Up with WT101 for me.
Baker's is a single barrel and it can be much more hit or miss than the KC single barrels. KC SiB start at 'worth it' and can get up to 'oh man, I should have backed this up'.
I second your opinion on the Bakers. I DO have an old Bakers in the wine bottle that I havent opened yet, but the new bottle had some odd funkiness to it and turned me off. Speaking of deals, about 3 places (FW, Indy) I recently visited in Indiana had KC9 for $18........I just dont know how you get a better deal than that! Thanks for the review, you guys are one of my "go to" channels for an honest opinion. If I hit the stores right, I can get your top 3 choices for well under $100....a rare achievement these days! Looks like JB is back on the menu boys! Cheers!
Surprising that the Black 7 beat my favorite daily, ET. I still cannot find it anywhere in central Texas. Regular Jim Black is still readily available though. I need to side by side those two. Good banter today.
Might be too complicated, but if you did want to do a double (ish) blind without the Mrs., Kurt could pour the 4 bottles into mason jars and label them 1-4 (writing down what's in each mason jar). Came back to this after watching the recent videos about how current bottles of WT101 is no longer good. I have had both and I like the WT better but my bottle may have been old enough to be good. Now maybe I have to ditch the WT now that it’s bad. Or just pay for Rare breed.
Blinds can be fun, I recently did one for my friends that was 3 bottles we didn't like (Willet Pot Still, Rowan's Creek and Weller 107) and 2 we love (EHT Weller 12) and while the Weller 12 won, no one rated any of them very highly. Rowan's Creek actually lost to the Willet Pot Still which I was sure would have bottomed out.
Early Times starts off like the best. A wild west whiskey. Cherry, leather. But it ends in a asparagus vegetable note. Once that gets on your palet? It's not that good. Jim Beam black is off the charts. I get it for 23 dollars. It overshoots it's price point. Amazing value.
It changes the second time because you have caught a lil bit of a buzz. Blinds are best done not sober. You have that bell curve for tasting pregaming a little will give you a tolerance to the ethanol and a better judgment of taste. Lil water in between doesn’t hurt either
I love Bakers 7. Sam’s club has an almost 9 year version for only 40 bucks. Pretty tasty bourbon with a near 9 year age statement at a killer deal. I like those funky smelling/tasting bourbons
I was at Jewel-Osco (far west suburban Chicago area) last night shopping with my wife for a party this weekend and I snuck over to the liquor aisle and was surprised to find the new JB Black 7 yr in both sizes. The sale date on the sign ended last week, but the cashier honored the price on the two bottles in my cart because it rang up higher. But she gave me a credit to reflect that $19.99 price. Score!

Looks like I need to add Jim Beam Black to the shopping list! 👍
It's so so so approachable. They really have hit a home run in the proof and price segment.
Yeah, that's a solid pick, and these graphics are a fantastic touch. I hope they're a permanent feature.
Thank you!! I appreciate it 😁

Got my JB Black7 for $18.88 at Sams. Definite buy at that price. Oak, vanilla, caramel, nuts. Pretty good after opening and sitting a few days.
Love the bottle picture staying on screen while tasting. Super clean! Great blind guys!🥃
The new Jim Beam Black is very surprising, picked one up last week and tasted like everything you two blinded. Great episode guys.

I haven't hit the sour note in my bottle of Baker's. I've been very impressed with it and enjoy it a lot. I can't wait to try the JB 7.
I tried the Jim Beam 7 year yesterday. It is surprisingly good, especially for $20. I’d say it’s better than KC9!
