By the standards of living in Alabama, you guys did extremely well, we could never go to the store and spend what you bought and have what you have...I'm originally from Maryland and I miss Amish country so much...I appreciate all you've shared, thank you!!!
We live in Oregon. Here they are called Grocery Depot. Amish Store. If you are lucky enough to have one in your area, go there.!!!! We drive close to 50 miles to get to the one in Corvallis. So worth it. Just found your channel!! Love seeing y'all save money and turning other folks on to great things!
WOW I wish we lived near a store like this. You got some amazing deals. Also, don't worry about expiration dates because Food Banks will accept food that has an expiration date of up to 2 years past the expiration date, so you're good with what you brought. Enjoy your bounty!
I shop like you but I live in Canada. The Menonites have great food. Don't apologize for the "junk" food, even if you make homemade sweets at home it's still considered junk food.
Does the store they went to not sell produce? And you should apologize or they should rather apologize for buying nothing but junk food. There's nothing healthy and what they bought so I see it is a waste of money
I loved the video and listening to you speak just reminded me of my American host family I lived with for a year and a half in Illinois. My host mom was a huge bargain shopper, too. Lol. Best wishes from Argentina.
I have always dreamed about being amish! I grew up in Newfoundland and my life growing up was alot like amish especially with my grandma and I so adored my childhood.
@@happyjourneywithlynn2534 Diane commented 2 yrs ago. 2 yrs ago I could get bacon on sale at Meijer 3/$5 which is $1.67 a pack. I'd get 6 packs for the freezer. It was usually John Morrell which we loved. Now it's $3.00 a pack on sale. I got 2 yesterday.
When I lived in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania I spent about 40% less for groceries than I do here in Arizona. I shopped at many farmers markets and overstock supermarkets, but rarely conventional supermarkets. Didn't need to except for a couple of things.
You can't get meat that good at a grocery store either...and you know where this meat came from...I would have paid more than the store would charge...that's what I love about shopping in the Amish markets...the offerings are fresh, safe and really, really affordable for anyone. Yall did great. Hey, when you make your hot apple cider...add some orange peel and lemon peel and a stick of cinnamon, while it simmers...it tastes soooo good like that...hope yall like it that way too. I love it that yall got some really cool stuff...I so wish we had one near us...I just looked it up, but I don't think most of the place I found is really Amish...the breads and cakes, pies are...but, they don't sell meat like yall got...just sandwiches and other meals...and the regular grocery stuff...I need to find one like yall found. Thanks for sharing this with us too. Take care and God Bless.😊If yall want your noodles and rice, etc. to last longer and not get weevils in them...toss them in your freezer for a couple of days when you first bring them home...kills all the possibilities of any weevils...same for you oatmeal and other cereal. In the summertime, you are more prone to wind up with weevils in some of those things...so, that's why I put mine in the freezer for a couple of days first.
Horseback. Drive. Hire a Piper Cub at the county air port. Hitchhike. Greyhound. Bike. Order plus a big 'ol tip for the clerk to ship UPS. Hire the Backwoods Patriot to hand deliver it.
This looks like southern Missouri. I used to drive through Amish country there and remember some of these stores. Unfortunately I never stopped to see what they had.
We have The Dutchman store in Cantril, Iowa. Very similar to the store you went. The Dutchman store is also ran by the Mennonite’s. It’s an hour long drive there, but worthwhile.
Amy Thomas my grandparents lived there. They died and are buried in the cantorial cemetery. My aunt died about a year ago she lived there. Her name was Bonnie Wollam. I’ve been to that store. When I was a child before that Dutchman store there was a small grocery store. Memories of control going to grandmas!,
You guys did amazing! That bacon sure looked yummy too! Great price! Shocked over the price of the candy! Very cheap! I remember when I was a little girl and candy was cheap. Boy, not anymore. I spend a small fortune over the bags of candy to pass out to trick or treaters. You were right....you’d have spent double or triple for that haul somewhere else.
Stores like this in an urban area would be the worth the price of gold. The working poor, poor living on government programs, the middle class and even the wealthy (would send their housekeepers or maids shopping) would see the value in these stores.
Stores like this in many (obviously not all) urban areas would be ROBBED. That is why many stores do not open in those areas, because of the crime and drugs. These areas are easy to spot, look for all the bars on the doors and windows and the gas station liquor stores that have a small bullit proof turnstyle to to take money.
Awesome prices, esp the bacon. I would put the fries in a pan, top them with slices of onions, and put the bacon over the onions. Let it bake for 20 minutes or so with the bacon grease cooking the onions & fries. Have that for brunch and my tummy would feel good all day long.
Holy cow! Great bargains! Our Amish store has only fresh produce in season and the jams & jellies & bread they make, but I LOVE going out there! We also have a Mennonite store that has every sort of flour, noodles, spices, frozen pies and they have a deli too & they make the BEST sandwiches!
I also visit an Amish store and the meats are always fresh, better than modern groceries, fruits are from their gardens and similar co- ops near by. Fresh baked foods! Yummy! You just separate, package stuff per meals and freeze it. Delicious!!
there's a store about 30 minutes from me doing such amazing business, they expanded their store by double. I love, love, love going there. it's my go- to for coffee, cereals, bulk like almost every thing. it's really a God send since I live on very little.
I,m in Fort Worth, Tx. I know I would have paid 4 times the amount of what y'all paid. I don,t care about broken boxes. I would definitely eat something with a 2 years expiration date. Thanks for sharing. :-)
Hello. First time here. Do not fret over the expiration dates on canned or most boxed food. It is mostly a marketing idea to keep us buying more stuff. Just use your wisdom, your eyes, and your nose. Enjoy. Blessings to all. Good job.
I used to sing "Home on the Range" to my horse in Scotland (my sister and I made up all these stupid words to the tune of 'Bonanza' and we used to sing that too...no wonder people used to look at us funny (the horses looked at us funny too lol!).
We pulled into an Amish restaurant in Ohio once with 5 people. They wanted $15 a person and that did not count drinks. We were looking at their prices. Sot hat would have been $75 for 5 of us and about another $13 for drinks. It did not include dessert. We looked in and there were about 8 people at 3 tables. We turned around and left. I looked in a case and saw an absolutely mouth watering German chocolate cake in the display. I asked how much it was. $16.00. What a joke. They may be religious but you then walk over to their Amish country furniture store and you would be shocked at those prices. $1,500 for a 5 drawer dresser. I thought I was in Beverly Hills. Again, we just left. For a total of $88 just to eat, we could go buy a ham and all the trimmings and still have money left over. In fact we did. We grabbed a few burgers and went to the store and laughed and had a blast loading up the cart for the next days FEAST. Marie Calandars Banana Cream pie, $4.99 on sale. Mouth watering! We got a whole ham and it was $1.29 lb. We put it on 325F in the oven and let it in about 8 hours overnight. Fell off the bone like magic. It wasn't salty so we got a good one. Krogers sells Annies on sale sometimes 2/$1. I never buy candy. I can still remember getting loose candy bars 4/$1 haha. Cucumbers were CHEAP as were the carrots. That bacon looked GOOD, pretty lean for bacon.
For that price of that candy I would have gotten more than 3 bags.. cause I would have share it with my parents, kids( 2 adult, 1 teen) husband. That was very good deal. Beside you got alot more healthy food.
Great buy guys.. you're right about if the food is dry...i dont think it really expires its just stamped with best by well at least the majority of goods..
Indeed I love Amish stores. Looks like you got some great deals. I do have to point out what is organic and what is not. First anything in a box is not organic. Fruits and vegetables grown without chemical sprays are organic. Animal meats that are grass feed and free to walk around outside are organic. But you both certainly did great shopping for your family.
Since I got my farm I rarely go shopping. I'm not into processed foods anymore. But you did get a great bargain. Your shopping is healthy. Maybe you can store your food by canning it.
You don't have to explain why you buy certain items what you eat is up to you! Screw anyone who shoots you down and makes you feel defensive. Thanks for showing this and those are great prices wish there was an Amish store near me. But hey, I just bought a cast-off Amish Belgian horse!
I am a newbie to your channel but this video was very interesting! I would love to shop an Amish grocer! And don’t apologize for junk food! Who says it’s junk? I thought your purchases were great!! Thank you!
WOW!!! You definitely got the haul that is cheaper than anywhere I can think of.
By the standards of living in Alabama, you guys did extremely well, we could never go to the store and spend what you bought and have what you have...I'm originally from Maryland and I miss Amish country so much...I appreciate all you've shared, thank you!!!

WoW.. I'm a huge bargain shopper and y'all got an awesome deal. 👍
You know I wish we had an Amish store over here. Costco or BJ they are expensive. You guys did great.Thank you for sharing and be blessed always
I shop like you but I live in Canada. The Menonites have great food.
Don't apologize for the "junk" food, even if you make homemade sweets at home it's still considered junk food.
Sarah I'm also in canada where can i find shops like this?
In Montana, we have Hudderite stores similar, not quite such good prices on meat. Envy!
Does the store they went to not sell produce? And you should apologize or they should rather apologize for buying nothing but junk food. There's nothing healthy and what they bought so I see it is a waste of money
Great 👍 deals!! I wish I had an Amish store close to me but I would be in there constantly! Like your videos btw!!
I loved the video and listening to you speak just reminded me of my American host family I lived with for a year and a half in Illinois. My host mom was a huge bargain shopper, too. Lol. Best wishes from Argentina.
Wow! I wish we had a store like that here. I also just found your channel. Loved it, I will be watching.

I’ve shopped at our Amish store 20 plus years
I have always dreamed about being amish! I grew up in Newfoundland and my life growing up was alot like amish especially with my grandma and I so adored my childhood.
Wow those are amazing prices wish we had an Amish store like tgat here in western Canada
That bacon comes out to a unit price of $1.79/lb. You can't get bacon anywhere for that price.
Diane C.......Nope.....unless its bacon expired. Bacon is about 4 bucks a pound

Groceries are very expensive here in Canada and let me tell you that we certainly could do with an Amish store out here!
There are several Mennonite communities in Canada. You could try them.
This looks like southern Missouri. I used to drive through Amish country there and remember some of these stores. Unfortunately I never stopped to see what they had.
As a NYer, I can confirm you got good bargains.
