Yoder Dept Store in Shipshewanna is great. You can find many old time cooking gadgets, and solutions to real world problems resolved with common sense hardware. Yoder Dept. Store is where my wife found all her wedding fabrics for her dress. Furniture can be found at Shipshewanna Furniture Co. where we bought our dining room chairs that match our solid mahogony table. Upholstered furniure and accessories are also there. A must see when in downtown Shipshe. And of course Bulk Foods is a must shop store as well. Spend the weekend and browse. We've been going there for over 30 years, and visit weekends every year. Was there two weekends ago, and need to get back for a slower pace of life. Don't forget to have a buffet dinner at Das Dutchman Essenhaus Restaurant in Middlebury, just a stone's throw from Shipshewanna. We'll never stop going there to either town.
I'm originally from central Indiana. When I was young, there was a community of Amish in Shelby Co., Indiana. A friend and I went down near there to an Amish auction. She and I were the few "English" there. It was quite an education. Really appreciate how hard they all work.
Yoder's that I had the pleasure in staying at didn't have a store this large maybe the size of that one room where they were working on the quilt had the pleasure of that also!!
Greetings Mr B. I hope you are feeling better. I'm a recent Mennonite in a rural corner of California. And I am interested in "how the other half lives" as they say. So I am appreciative every time you show plain people and things they are interested in. Would you care to define a few things for us now and then? For example, I notice the prayer kapp on these ladies covers their ears. Doesn't complete coverage like that suggest that they are Old Order Amish? There are SO many plain church types. I would like to learn a bit from each video. I am not critical, just very interested in the broader scope of things.
There are many branches of Amish. The ones with the prayer caps that cover the ears are the more stricter amish religion vs Mennonite which i think is more easy going as you can wear more colors and i believe patterns. Where as the stricter amish wear black, blue and some other solid only color dresses
Next time you do a video for showing, go a little slower with moving the camera. I could not watch as it made me dizzy. I think it would have been very interesting.
I love the amish but I don't like their religion! But they are people who have good sense and it pleases me very much!Even if there is a power outage they know how to get by just the same like our grandparents used to.They have a lot to teach us in so many ways!
