I agree, at the price now a few hundred more and you can get a pro. If it was 2500 I would have already ordered one. I like the smaller size and have a spot for it.
I think it’s a cool idea but the price is high. Like you said, if it was sold in stores like Walmart it would do better. I was hoping for an arcade1up style pinball machine. Obviously a little more high quality than the 1ups but not at a $4000 price point
I like the idea but it isn't for me. I'd rather spend a little more for a full machine. I'm curious to see what they go for on the secondary market though. As with gameplay, that left orbit that flows to a ramp is really cool! I'm glad they did metal ramps and wireforms, wish they would do that with the pro version. I'd also like to see how often during single ball play the ball settles into the 'Newton ball lock.' Do you have to qualify the lock or will it enable multiball if it settles there? If not, ball search won't help since there isn't a VUK or anything there. Same for end of game, it won't eject if drained. Lots to think about. I'd like to see one someday or at least some further gameplay to see what they've done.
The main issue I see in home editions is that they're still too expensive for most consumers, 4 grand is an awful lot to be dropping on what essentially is a toy, and if you have that kind of money to play with anyway, you might as well spend a bit more and buy a full-featured model or go find a decent used machine. If it's really going to take off, the machines would have to get dirt cheap, say a grand or less, and that's a tall order for any manufacturer. That's largely why virtual pinball is getting so big, you can throw together a cabinet for a fraction of what a physical machine would cost, and have literally dozens of tables to choose from, or save even more and just play on your console, tablet, pc, or what-have-you.
$2500 = hey, not bad. $3000 = on target. $3500 = I dont know, you are pushing it there, Stern. $4000 = No way, I'm out. $4500 = You must be crazy or think I'm stupid to pay that price.
@@CaryHardy More or less, yeah, my thoughts exactly. For one or two grand, it'd be an eyebrow-raiser, but as is it doesn't have enough going on with the playfield to warrant want Stern wants for it. If you're going to go for a simpler layout, for my dough I'd go for a good used Solid State like Fathom from Bally. That thing is mean as hell when it's set up right!
I think you are underestimating the home market demand, but price is a real issue here. Why would I spend $4000 on this when I can pick up a used Adams Family at an auction for the same or less? I think that they should be following the model of Arcade1up if they want to break into the home market. Everybody hates Arcade1up, but they sold 400,000 units from October to December of 2018 alone. It will be in the millions for 2019. I think there is real money for Stern to make here. Make 3/4 scale replicas of famous pins with reduced rule sets and stick them in every Walmart at $999.99.
Thanks for your video/thoughts. I was hoping that you would put something out there, in regards to this new pin. If anything, I feel that Stern should of placed the price anywhere between 2 and 3k.

All they had to do was say the announcement was coming for a new home pin. Not let everyone think it is a real arcade piece. That is why so many down votes were given. They allowed their fans/customers to believe a real pinball was coming out not a scaled down home edition all the fans who would tune in would be disappointed in. I too down voted it because of that. I think making home pins is a fine idea to get more people into pinball but to make it a major announcement without qualifying what the announcement was for was a mistake. The home pin market isn't watching Sterns RUclips for reveals.
I'm all for these Pin releases TBH. From the stream, it looks legit fun to shoot. I wish it was a little cheaper and the teaser sucked, but the concept has potential.
Cary, You nailed it, the only problem is the price! This is NOT for PINHEADS! If this is in Big Box stores like BJ's / Costco . At $3000 they would get impulse buys. That is how i bought a Chicago Gaming ARCADE LEGENDS 2. Enjoy the weekend Brother. I want a STERN RICK and MORTY PIN! Rated R
A fair summary, total marketing troll that was ill advised but hey... we are used to Stern's tone deafness at this point. Definitely overpriced by about 1500.00 for it's intended market IMO.
Heartbroken it wasnt jaws, shark comin outta the playfield to lock the ball or something woulda been epic, that and beetlejuice both would be huge i think, theres no market for this im betting and hyped it up pretty good then i see ugly plastic ramps and a game that already exist but stripped down and that screen is stupid small, totally agree w your thoughts, keep us posted as you learn more man
100% agreeing with you here. You know, i dont have a pin at home, and whats make it even harder to acquire, is that i live in Canada, and where i am, well the market of used pins prices are imo ridiculous. This pinball does look interesting, and going into a Walmart and seeing this for like 3500-4k CND, chance i would do an impulsive buy are way over 50% . But the current price, 4.5k US, makes it at around 6k CND before taxes. The product disappointed pinball fans. The price disappointed new comer who want a pins at home.
This is the game that should have had the IGN release. Black Knight would have made more sense to promote with the timer for the pinball community. The game actually look fun enough but like everyone is saying, it's the price. This needs to be more like a 2k pin to attract the new market or at least half of a pro (5.5k down there?)
Nice take. People are forgetting that There aren’t a thousand like-new Stern SWPros on the used market so that whole theory is trash. This is a new SW machine made for newbies, not hardcore collectors. And to your point, maybe SWHE hits the used market faster than expected, so what? Isn’t that still a win? It makes it even cheaper & more accessible. This reminds me of the babies crying about Diablo mobile
You internet trolls are pathetic. Stern is the only manufacturer doing anything. JJP had only 1 Wonka at GSPF, and ZERO Pirates! And there was at least 8 BK:SOR's ✌
the Pinball world has tried this idea so many times. It's never worked. it's been proven time and again that pinheads would rather pay the extra and get the true game. This looks like it was made from all the sxtra parts from Star Wars lol, since it was such a fail (I like it but in geneal the community didn't really like it). Anyways price this at 2000 and you'll get lucky. 4500 vs 5500 for the full game, no thanks. Just get the actual game
Stern should price their pro models at that price. That thing is a toy that would cost almost 7 grand in Canada. Wish I could buy a real pin but those frigging things are over 8000 for a pro up here. Hey stern lots of pinheads in Canada and you have priced all your real games and now your shitty toy out of what most are able to afford. Nice business model...not! You claim it’s aimed at families for home use but it’s priced way beyond what anybody with kids can afford. Bow your heads in shame
I completely agree, these "home" versions are just bad ideas. I don't own a full size pinball machine, although I'm a fan of home pinball in the form of 3/4 machines because they're in my price range. If I was ever able to save up $4500 to finally own a full size machine, I'm sure I could just keep saving until I had $5000 and get a Pro version. I'd never touch these Home versions, and that's coming from someone who likes cheap plastic crap in their home.
Using the term 'Hardcore collectors' takes it too far. This was aimed at those with little to no knowledge of pinball. 'Hardcore collectors' gives this product too much gravitas.
@@CaryHardy i know what you mean and I agree what you said about it was the people that hyped this released. Having said that I played this machine and it was pretty good. This will retail for 3600-3800. I think pricing is good but not great but it will introduce pinball to a new audience.
I know. I think maybe they put a hold on home pins until they felt the time was right to try again when they thought the iron was hot. Granted it is hot - but the price they want is NOT.
Can we agree that the main issue is the price? If this thing was $2.5K would it be respected?
2.5k would be a seller !
Yes. And they just did Star Wars... why redo already???? geez.

Why would they shrink down the LCD Screen size? I can't imagine doing that would reduce production costs by very much.
that among a bunch of other nips and tucks add up.
cabinet size smaller
mono speaker
smaller screen
no complex mechs
thats just naming a few

Now a used afv is $8,000 to $12,000.
Somebody please tell me the difference between this and the pro edition besides the coin slot.
