I bought one. Absolutely LOVE it. Zero regrets getting one. To correct you, this is a FULL sized pin. It is not a "home pin" or any type of a smaller version of a real pin. It also sounds incredible! :)
It may be the same size of cabinet and playfield, but the amount of building materials are much smaller. I have played it since this video and it is in fact fun - which wasn't my complaint. Just the price and art package.
Let me clarify that the Home Pin is in fact a regular sized playfield and cabinet. When I say "smaller sized" think of it as a smaller amount of hardware. i.e. DMD, usually no coin slots - but this one does, single pop bumper mechs.
Thank you Cary for your honesty. There are other youtubers (some are your friends, so I won't make it too awkward) on here that are shills for Stern / JJP / American Pinball who give glowing reviews for mediocre products because they want to SELL the pinball machine to people. Your no-holds-barred opinions are what I value most when looking for the next great machine. Stay honest no matter what. Thanks!
I've always been a fan of fantasy art and I *really* like the look of this pin (except the Taarna toy - scope for a custom replacement for her), and I've heard that the home pin is good fun to play. So actually I quite fancy this pin. But not at that price! Insane.
I agree with you about the play field having a lot of vacant space. That has always been something I have though to be an eye sore on any machine. Every square inch of a playfield that's not covered by mechanics, toys, ramps, lights and etc. should be covered by intricate artwork. Just look at the play field of the Aerosmith machine, the artwork on that is a feast for the eyes. It should be like that for all machines, not much of an excuse for it not to be there.
i think tarna toy should be replaced with the b-29 bomber as diplayed in the after the attack and the play field needs more lighting and remove thse four characters and what you have to do is put in heavy metal with the dropped y explode or get spelled in lights if you acomplish some level.
I think you have to look at this as if you're not a part of the hobby. This is Stern's Private Label model, not a "home pin." (It is a full-sized pin.) It would best be compared to the Supreme machine which was $10,000. They are not meant for pinball collectors/enthusiasts. They are meant for the consumers of these brands who see it and think it would be "cool" to own a pinball machine. Stern has set up a concept where they can easily and quickly produce games for these corporations who contract them for a game. (Without an 18-24 month development cycle.) The layout is already designed. They really only have to change the art and the software (dots/music). Is the price high? Maybe, maybe not. It IS a limited edition. This particular title is only going to be produced on demand for 2020 only (Heavy Metal website). It might end up being a very limited edition. (There's also a line about "white glove delivery and setup" on the order page that makes it sound like it's included.) I had never heard of Heavy Metal until Stern announced this back in February, so I'm definitely not a buyer, but all new pinball is good pinball regardless.
I keep forgetting that the new home pins are full sized. When I hear home pin I think of the Spiderman and transformers, and avengers versions from years ago. lol. I have pinned a correction.
No way is that $8k worth of fun. I have a Stern Dracula that I restored have a ton of fun with it as do I with my Stern Disco. I have $2k in both pins.
I do not understand the allure of this whole "home pin" idea. Supreme had a one-off done and it was based on... I wanna say Spiderman? but it was a fully functioning FULLY LOADED pin... I feel that if company wants to contract a pin build, use an old theme, with plentiful parts. Leave off the coin door... then you can offer a DMD style for Pro or full colour LED for Pro/LE and done! Cheaping out on design/features detracts from your product as a whole... my 2cents
This is the Gomez Spider-Man ‘The Pin’ and SW Home Pin re skinned- hope it’s not made out chip board for that extra $3000. Crazy money even for a one off theme. Buy a used Black Knight and a nice Metallica for how much they’re asking
The term HEAVY METAL only means the bands. SABBATH ZEPPELIN AND PURPLE. THEN MAIDEN PRIEST And MOTORHEAD. AND RATT CRUE HALEN out the running gates in the early 80s.
As a seller for many years, both pre-owned and new pins. I am at the point of why are these priced so high? There will be a time in the near future that no one will want these pins and the price will fall drastically. Most kids growing up these days are not interested, and as we get older we learn to value our hard earned dollar more. Jukeboxes are almost impossible to sell these days, as well as classic cars. I see pins doing the same in just a few years.
Unfortunately because there are those that buy these machines regardless of price, especially LE or CE models, Stern or JJP will continue to charge these amounts because there's always a sucker. Or those that have joined the hobby to make money off the machines (flip them). The only way we will see prices come down is if Deep Root finally releases their pins with a ton of innovation at a price point way lower than Stern Pro or JJP standard or another pinball company comes out and does the same. Then when Stern and JJP realize they are losing profits to more affordable machines with more innovation and mechs in them vs taking more out and charging more, thats when they will the lower the price. Sad to say.
So let me get this straight. Stern basically ripped off the playfield from star wars the home pin, threw it in a more expensive cabinet, ripped out the star wars toys amd replaced them with heavy metal toys, then swapped out and threw in a large dmd and presto, toss in a 8500 dollar price tag? LMAO. An overpriced clone. Star Wars the Pin seems like a hell of a bargain now.
I do not get it how do you charge 8000 dollars for a base game with nothing and a empty playfield. Also their is not a large color tv screen like new games it is an old noncolor dmd. You can get a nice jjp or a good wpc title for that game. The only upgrade for 8000 is the power coating and side blades and it is downgraded because it is a small version you can buy a le for that price . You will get a garbage play field with clean coat issues. Why buy stern? buy a jjp or a nice used wpc game.
good artwork, lame game. I am fan of the movie, and i am a real pinball fan, but with this machine... well i am not happy at all. I hope stern does a newer real version of this title, with a real playfield, not a reused home pinball playfield.

Cary Hardy & Joe's classic video games are by far and away the best pinball channels on RUclips. Thanks Cary for the hard work
oh yeah the ball needs to be in like a metalicc green and of coarse the company logo snould scream steeern! with hannable fists screaming it.
Stern should try to just once deliver more than expected, not less.
Let me clarify that the Home Pin is in fact a regular sized playfield and cabinet. When I say "smaller sized" think of it as a smaller amount of hardware. i.e. DMD, usually no coin slots - but this one does, single pop bumper mechs.
I love how your brutally honest.
I'm honest so I don't have to remember.

What’s that? The dumpster is calling? It’s trash day

Thanks... saved me from a huge mistake
2k Subscribers! Awesome!

Spiderman 'The Pin' $3800 MSRP SEP2016 -> -> Star Wars 'The Pin' $4500 MSRP JUL2019 -> -> Heavy Metal 'The Pin' $7999 MSRP JUN2020. -> Nuff Said.
Agreed the layout is great fun, but the price for what you get could be argued. Other than that very kool pin.
i think tarna toy should be replaced with the b-29 bomber as diplayed in the after the attack and the play field needs more lighting and remove thse four characters and what you have to do is put in heavy metal with the dropped y explode or get spelled in lights if you acomplish some level.
Regarding the barren field: Maybe its secretly a P3! Did you check the area above the flippers for a LCD screen? LOL

Totally agreed. Love your honesty!
Im with ya 100%.. I was blown away yesterdaywhen i saw the $8000 price tag.. absolutely insane for what you are getting!
No way is that $8k worth of fun. I have a Stern Dracula that I restored have a ton of fun with it as do I with my Stern Disco. I have $2k in both pins.
Wait, what? The "Home Pin" machines are a smaller machine? I did not know that. $8K, no way!
I have a correction pinned. The older Home pins were smaller - the newer ones including this one are regular sized.

I want a wu tang clan pinball machine!
This is the Gomez Spider-Man ‘The Pin’ and SW Home Pin re skinned- hope it’s not made out chip board for that extra $3000. Crazy money even for a one off theme. Buy a used Black Knight and a nice Metallica for how much they’re asking
Great video as always!

Too expensive for me. I have to stick to the PC pinball games. But I would really like to test that table.
I will never justify spending that kind of money on a new pin, pro or any model.
How the fuck is there no Loc-Nar?
HOORAY! RED DOTS RETURN!
home pin size for 8k? pee on it, water damage...

For 8k they are crazy. If iam going to spend that much it’s going to be on a. Premium or better to many great games out their
I honestly can't imagine them selling even one of these. 8k for a home pin or an Elvira HoH....hmm. They've lost the plot completely.
EHoH is an amazing game.
40 year anniversary
It's Garbage Day!!! That is a reskinned Star Wars Home with reskinned Star Wars artwork. Absolutely embarrassing

Zero cares about this title.
