- Take a stroll with me around Side an incredible ancient city.
As part of my family holiday we sweated it out in 46 degrees to visit some of the most incredible Roman ruins I have ever seen. from a 20,000 seat ampitheatre to the beautiful port. I walked up the main shopping street which has been built over the ancient ruins many of which are displayed through glass floors.
We stayed at the Voyage Sorgun all inclusive resort a 10 minute taxi drive from the centre.

Plenty of people use the word "amazing" on their videos, but this truly was a true definition of the word ... just WOW ! ... Far too hot and sunny for me, so I am never likely to go myself, but really appreciate you making this vlog so people like myself can at least experience it briefly from our sofas ! My son's mum does a lot of travelling and back packing aroud the world these days and has it on her to-do-list now ! See you back in Sheffield on here ... ;-)
Thank you for sharing such amazing history. You can certainly tell you were truly lost for words when you were in the Amphitheatre. How cute was Edward when he was shouting to you to be careful when you were walking down the steps

The Roman edifices in Side and Aspendos
are actually classed as theatres where they used to hold plays and poem readings! The acoustics are amazing!
An Amphitheatre would be elliptical in shape (actually 2 theatre shapes placed back to back) and that was where they held the gladiator games! The ‘gods’ is where the lower class women and slaves sat and the upper classes sat in the lower areas!
The agora consisted of shops and meeting places (a modern day mall)!
They did have machinery to build consisting of wooden scaffolding and lifts and pulleys! What a magnificent ancient ruin! Thanks for sharing 🙏❤️🇺🇸

Great video,, reminds me of when we went to pompeii,, somewhere you could probably visit,,, sorrento,, Mount versuvius,, naples and pompeii FANTASTIC HOLIDAY EXPERIENCE

Becky the amphitheatre was something else, i have never been to that one but have been to the one at Dalyan in Turkey and they also have rock tombs aswell, absolutely stunning, you have presented this video in such a lovely natural way and your filming skills and editing are excellent ❤️👍

We were in side 2 years ago our hotel was amazing but we could get out and about so we went to the harbour for a meal and seen the ruins xxxxxxx

Thanks Debbie. It's easier to cope with the high temperatures when you have a swimming pool to constantly jump in and full air conditioned buildings. Although sweaty top lips are not a good look haha, hope you're well. Xx

Wow, didn't know anything about Side, what an amazing place. Standing in the amphitheatre must have been like stepping back in time.
It made me so emotional in the ampitheatre, I had no idea the place existed until I looked into Turkey holidays. X

Exactly what I always think Becks. When you think of the machinery they have nowadays and how long it takes to build things. How did they manage to build these ancient places? Castles , cathedrals etc

Glad you enjoyed! The hotel we stayed in was fantastic for gluten free they had special sections, as well as lots of fresh food it was only difficultly was not being able to eat all the amazing cakes the GF desserts weren't the best. I am definitely telling James that haha xx

I've only seen a little of Turkey from a cruise, I'd love to go back. Side looks like an amzing place to visit. I just got a new puppy while on the road, she is 1/4 Beagle and 3/4 King Charles Cavalier and she's traveling very well. Glad I had some time here to catch your trip, thanks for the share.

Been to side about 11 times best going at night when it’s cooler. All the ruins are lit up amazing place manavgat waterfalls are another great place to visit
We didn't stay too late as it was incredibly busy but it was starting to be lit up and looked fab. X
Fantastic footage Beck, many thanks. Well done dealing with the chap on the bike, perfectly played. If you do visit Rome in the future try and get the metro and train out to Ostia Antica it is amazingly preserved Roman town near Portus.

So interesting, stunning ruins. I can understand why you would be overwhelmed at the initial site of the amphitheater. How odd that it looked like any modern arena, only in stone. Perfect template so why change it! Oh gosh, the chap on the scooter.Pleasant enough, but a warning to be on your guard.
It really was overwhelming, yes we haven't progress much on the basic design! X
That was all very interesting. I live in Australia, and in the summer of many really hot days, it is advisable to cover arms and legs with cotton shirt and long dress or trousers. Also wear a wide brimmed hat. Sun screen of course. My brother died at age 41 of melanoma, brought on by summers in the sun. ❤2🇦🇺
I always use factor 50 and am generally very cautious as I can burn, so sorry to hear about your brother I lost a friend to menenoma in her 40s also it's terrible! 😔 xx

@@BeckandBeyond it's a Greek and Turkish specialty drink ,like perno tastes like aniseed ,,yes bodrum is fantastic ,used to get the dalmus everyday from gumbet ,they have a big nightclub at bodrum harbour named the halikarnos ,the biggest nightclub in Europe with spectacular strobe lighting ,I was in there most nights until 5am ,,you will love bodrum.

Hi Becks, My late partner Jayne would of loved walking around those roman remains etc, As she loved ancient civiliations so much so that she did a dregree in classical studies and of course passed with flying colours. Sadly i believe many slaves were used to build the Amphitheatre and other roman structures. great listening to your son seems to have quite an interest in the surroundings. Oh it might of helped keep you a little cooler if you had worn a brimmed hat.
Sounds like Jayne really would have enjoyed it and been able to teach us all a thing or 2, I wish I had paid more attention to my History teacher at school I'll just have to make up for it now and get the books out. I did have a big hat but it literally covers my face so would have been difficult to wear it whilst filming. (some may thing it would be a benefit haha) x

Turkey you say,greece is amazing as well,just ruins but your imagination puts it all together if your young the heat shouldn't be a problem, winter months for me,I've always been fascinated with amphitheatres the way people say you whisper &it carries all the way around,just like st pauls in London, I've never heard or seen it in fruition, maybe I'm getting confused or have been mislead.have you been to bath&Harrogate baths,try the water smells like rotton eggs,we were encouraged to drink as kids,yorks a good day out,its got a holiday feel about it,especially early evening drink up those narrow streets near the minster.a strawboater hat may of cooled you down..
I couldn't work out if that guy on the bike was genuine or chancing his arm,perhaps being able to speak English & never flinching when camera on him,maybe he was looking out for a maiden or damsel in distress or dress.lol.could of been those flip-flops you were wearing, we'll never know..
IT was between Greece or Turkey for this holiday I very much want to go to Greece, I can totally appreciate that comment about a whisper carrying the acoustics were incredible and it was incomplete so must have been amazing. Bath is one of my favourites such a beautiful place and great shopping too haha!! xx

Sheff Wed, for my sins, a season ticket holder for over 20 years I was obsessed and travelled everywhere with them sadly football isn't the same now so I've lost the love somewhat although I'll always be an Owl at heart! Are you going to unsubscribe now you know 😂😂
