But once it was done it should have stayed done. I think the editor probably saw how good it did and was trying to capitalize on it without understanding why it did good.

Make him still cold but also manipulative, love his family and put them first even if it means sabotaging others. Make him unwilling to kill to acomplish his means. I enjoy Batman Who Laughs, but it was in the back of my head that Owlman should still be the main Multiverse villainous foil to Batman as he's already established.

This honestly feeds into the point that opened the Dark multiverse plotline, though. That it was a set of realities *so* unreasonably horrible they *couldn't* exist. Not places where things went wrong, but places so bad they couldn't really happen to begin with. It was why they were all collapsing. And this makes *perfect* sense in that context.
He doesn't usually kill his parents and Bruce, that's a New 52 thing. In fact in previous continuites Thomas Wayne Sr was the police commissioner in Gotham and knew his son was Owlman.
Or in one case, the robber killed his family including his baby brother...causing him to go a similar path..until he confronted his family's killer...that's when he 'blinked'.
I prefer the version of him where he doesn’t murder his family and instead just finds out Thomas and Martha were corrupt. Makes the better reflection of Batman imo

Owlman is a great take on the evil doppleganger. Sometimes hes like Mirror Spock, not 100% evil, and capable of rational thought that make you think he's redeemable but...still pretty evil. Then sometimes he wants to destroy the multiverse because ya know, be thorough.

i love how dc uses the concepts and ideas behind characters as actual parts of their lore. Like it's fun cause there whole concept of the multiverse is based around writers and imagination and the ideas humans create and i think that's a really clever way to explore it. I think it's best shown in that, in real life Superman is the progenitor of the entirety of the concept of superheroes, so everything superhero related in the DC Multiverse is uniquely tied to Main Universe Superman

A cool way to incorporate owl man into the mainstream DC universe would be to make him the last (and best!) talon of the court of owls who survived its destruction and went into business for himself...
Actually this version of owlman has a much better backstory. The killing of his parents happen in front of him just like batman but Bruce is also killed and the person who killed them is a corrupt police officer. He then lives a life similar to batman with a no kill rule but when he catches the man who killed his parents and brother he learns that his parents were killers who would often hire people to kill for them to get more powerful in Gotham. Upon learning this his whole motivation is destroyed and he becomes nihilistic, killing the police officer while stating "It doesn't matter"
In short: so long as there’s a Batman, there’ll be an Owlman. This realization is really what compels Owlman to willingly give his life in the fight against Perpetua- knowing that he’ll always come back, regardless of what he does.
I like the version of Owlman who realised his parents did evil things, then became nihilistic. A true flip in the opposite direction where the realisation that people are ‘human’ hits different. Bruce learned that even his enemies are humans. They can’t be simple ‘evil’. Wayne Jr learned that his parents are humans too. They can’t simply be ‘good’. Thus, the latter casted off heroics because if ‘good’ no longer existed in his eyes. If his parents were evil, then the one who killed his parents was a good guy. It made all his efforts to righteously standing up to his parent’s killer worthless. That’s my simplified and maybe even bad explanation of it anyway. I like this particular Owlman’s origin better than the rest. The one that when animated got Batman to say some of the coldest lines in DC animation. “We both looked into the abyss. But when it looked back at us… You blinked.”
His original origin was that his family were killed by a corrupt cop. Once he tracked down the cop, it turned out his parents were also shady. That’s when it snapped for Owlman to think nothing matters.
basically he realized that so long as he's more interesting than any of the other evil Batmen (who, lets face it, were all one-trick ponies) he would always exist because the writers will always want to do something with him. Just like in Prachett's Discworld, most things only happen because the universe decides it'll make a good story, and so the universe lets Owlman exist cause he has great potential for more stories

Owlman is a great take on the evil doppleganger. Sometimes hes like Mirror Spock, not 100% evil, and capable of rational thought that make you think he's redeemable but...still pretty evil. Then sometimes he wants to destroy the multiverse because ya know, be thorough.

i love how dc uses the concepts and ideas behind characters as actual parts of their lore. Like it's fun cause there whole concept of the multiverse is based around writers and imagination and the ideas humans create and i think that's a really clever way to explore it. I think it's best shown in that, in real life Superman is the progenitor of the entirety of the concept of superheroes, so everything superhero related in the DC Multiverse is uniquely tied to Main Universe Superman

A cool way to incorporate owl man into the mainstream DC universe would be to make him the last (and best!) talon of the court of owls who survived its destruction and went into business for himself...

Actually this version of owlman has a much better backstory. The killing of his parents happen in front of him just like batman but Bruce is also killed and the person who killed them is a corrupt police officer. He then lives a life similar to batman with a no kill rule but when he catches the man who killed his parents and brother he learns that his parents were killers who would often hire people to kill for them to get more powerful in Gotham. Upon learning this his whole motivation is destroyed and he becomes nihilistic, killing the police officer while stating "It doesn't matter"

The little speech before he blows himself up along with the tower was pretty damn cool to be honest.
In short: so long as there’s a Batman, there’ll be an Owlman. This realization is really what compels Owlman to willingly give his life in the fight against Perpetua- knowing that he’ll always come back, regardless of what he does.

I like the version of Owlman who realised his parents did evil things, then became nihilistic. A true flip in the opposite direction where the realisation that people are ‘human’ hits different.
Bruce learned that even his enemies are humans. They can’t be simple ‘evil’.
Wayne Jr learned that his parents are humans too. They can’t simply be ‘good’.
Thus, the latter casted off heroics because if ‘good’ no longer existed in his eyes. If his parents were evil, then the one who killed his parents was a good guy. It made all his efforts to righteously standing up to his parent’s killer worthless.
That’s my simplified and maybe even bad explanation of it anyway. I like this particular Owlman’s origin better than the rest. The one that when animated got Batman to say some of the coldest lines in DC animation.

The most craziest thing about this is he knows as long as 1 Batman exists he’ll be just fine.
His original origin was that his family were killed by a corrupt cop. Once he tracked down the cop, it turned out his parents were also shady. That’s when it snapped for Owlman to think nothing matters.
basically he realized that so long as he's more interesting than any of the other evil Batmen (who, lets face it, were all one-trick ponies) he would always exist because the writers will always want to do something with him. Just like in Prachett's Discworld, most things only happen because the universe decides it'll make a good story, and so the universe lets Owlman exist cause he has great potential for more stories
