    I did this process last summer with my '90 Suzuki RMX-250. A few things to note:
    - If your bike happens to not have an odometer equipped... Don't sweat it. Just put "No odometer" under the mileage :)
    - Tax is based on the "Fair" value, not the "Good" value. Win!
    I did this by mail. In fact, I did not even send them the odometer disclosure form. Just the reg form, and the bill of sale.
    I will be soon transferring this reg to RI, where there is no title or VIN check requirement on any vehicle over 20 years old.

    Im doing this right now, but I'm having a service do it for me. I live in Maryland and the DMV here is hell to deal with. The title of my bike has a typo on the VIN so the DMV didn't want to help me out until I get the title typo corrected. Literally, the VIN on the title was missing 1 digit. I got the bike's VIN checked out by a Maryland state trooper and the VIN is clean. Issue was just getting a hold of the seller and then the previous owner since the guy didn't register !!
    Once my plates come in I plan on keeping it registered in VT, I'll pay the $40 yearly fee for a new sticker. I'm not dealing with getting it inspected and possibly having to shell out $$ for that too

    Hey Haslip Cycle Works, I really liked your video but I am still a little confused on how to register my bike. Would you be able to help me answer some questions?
    From what I can tell, I have a 1981 Yamaha XT250 (250cc) that I bought from parts section of a vintage motorcycle dealer. I was issued a bill of sale but I wasn;t given a title. The VIN is still intact on the bike and from searches on Colorado Department of Public Safety as well as NICB indicate that the bike isn't stolen and that it isn't in NICB salvage records. Granted the bike is very old and doesn't have a standard VIN number (I don't believe VINs were standardized for at least a few more years).
    I currently do not have motorcycle insurance and I am looking to obtain a title for my bike. I seem to be having a hard time determining whether my bike already has a title in Colorado, but I have had no luck. If I am to go through with the Vermont registration, would I be given a title for my bike or would it simply be registered?
    I am looking to transfer their information to Colorado to have the bike titled in Colorado and I am unsure if I am approaching this in the correct manner. I will also note, my bike did not have an odometer when I got it, what should I put as the mileage?
    Would I need to have a motorcycle license and insurance in order to register my bike in Vermont?
    Sorry about the rather lengthy paragraph but any help is appreciated!
    Thank you

    • @HaslipCycleWorks
      @HaslipCycleWorks  Год назад

      You are headed in the ride direction. You are correct the VIN is more than likely not the current standard. If you go through VT you will receive a registration, a plate and sticker. VT doesn’t issue titles for anything over 15 years old or under 300cc. Your registration acts as a title in VT. Once you receive your items from VT you go to your local dmv office give them that information and tell them you want to transfer it to your home state. They will ask for $ and print you a fresh title, a new registration, a sticker and a plate. You can get insurance and registration/title without having a license. Hope all that helps.

Is there any reason you couldn't use the actual plate you received for the first year,,,the 'Vermont' plate to get some use out of it,,providing you got insurance from your insurance company, along with it for this bike,,then at the end of the first year, transfer the tile to your home state?It seems as long as you are carrying the registration in your own name on the bike,the license state should be irrelevant. The only think to look out for is if you get pulled over for whatever reason the registration for the bike will be from VT but your address on the registration and your license will be in another state. Great video! Quick question do you have to physically write in the NADA value in the grey box? I left it blank but just added the 6% if it in the tax box at the end.

    Hey question and need help. I’m trying to purchase an 19 rebel 300 but has no title . It’s in dc and he bought it with Florida tags. I live in Fairfax VA . Could this still work or different process?

    • @HaslipCycleWorks
      @HaslipCycleWorks  Год назад

      Unfortunately as of July 1st Vermont closed this to outside residents. Virginia does have a bonded title process that might work for you but I haven’t got a lot of solid information on that process yet.

    Thinking I might get in some trouble if I get pulled over with a Vermont plate (especially a temporary tag) while the actual are in the mail still. What do you think?

    • @HaslipCycleWorks
      @HaslipCycleWorks  4 года назад +1

      The Vermont plate should be a real plate. Nothing to say you’re waiting on the transfer. Registration and everything should have the correct information. Only thing they could complain about is you not being a Vermont resident but doubt it.

    Does this process work in California???

    • @HaslipCycleWorks
      @HaslipCycleWorks  2 года назад

      Not sure. I don’t know what the rules in California are, I would suspect they are more strict than other states. Your local DMV should be able to tell you though.

    • @HaslipCycleWorks
      @HaslipCycleWorks  Год назад

      That’s only on a bike that has a motor larger than 300cc/ newer than 10 years old. So if it’s a 2022 250cc you don’t if it’s a 1986 1000cc you don’t.
