For a last minute touch up I use regular eye shadow! I pick up a mix of golden, bronze and brown that are already in my palette. It does the trick and lasts a few days. If you have 6 weeks roots, so a lot to cover, maybe the spray is better ;) Thank you Molly!
Thank you so much! You saved my hair while the salons were closed down during covid. I had the courage to color my own hair, with your suggestions, and now I still do. You changed my life! And now your root cover up suggestions are priceless!
Your comment was the absolute nicest thing to read, thank you! I am so, so happy to hear that you've been able to find a color routine that works for you. It's a game changer to be able to color whenever you have the time. And second, I was having such "A Day" and when I saw your comment it really reminded me of the whole purpose of this channel and my blog. I truly appreciate you taking the time to say this. Thank you :)
I’m a med/ dark brown and I just use a cheap eyeshadow or brow powder, I find I can match the shade easier as there are so many colours. If I want more coverage I either add oil or wet my brush and that’s worked for years 😊
That's a great tip, Skarlett, thank you! I have tried that, but couldn't get the color to stop running, even with hair spray. Any tips? Do you think applying with a wet brush makes the difference?
Thank you for replying I know this sounds crazy but oil def works better just a tiny drop on the brush and I actually have used setting spray. I think it’s trail and error, I’ve used cheap products because it helps when on a budget. But however after your review I have just bought the Clairol powder as it’s really cheap on amazon right now, I think mine was £3.95 which is a bargain so I might be converted thanks to your video 😃🙏🏼
Hi Nadine! Yes, I've been using the Clairol since this video came out and have also found it to really be such incredible quality. I like both the spray and powder. Which one do you use?
I like to use the batiste dry shampoo with the added color, both the brown and the blonde, mixes very well and has pretty good coverage. Thank you for trying all of those products!
Great demo on all these products! I use the Clairol Roots Touch Up dye which is for the part and temples and only takes 10 minutes. I can get the roots in the whole front covered, and around the nape. It does such a great job that I can get another month before using L’Oreal for the full head. Alternating keeps the damage to a minimum.
Thank you for being REAL!!!!!! Thanks for this timely review. Not sure when I'll get in to see my hair goddess yet, and my roots are looking SPECIAL. hahaha
Oh my gosh, your grey is so beautiful! I would love to see you go full white/grey. If anyone could rock it, it would be you. You would be an inspiration to so many women. ❤👩🦳
I agreed 100 % given how grey Molly is it would be so much more low maintenance than having to constantly hide grey roots. Would look so Gorgeous with her skin tone as wel.l
Always wondered about these products and the shampoos! Never used neither, but your video was enjoyable and I'm willing to try it. I like the brush touch ups the best. TYFS and stay safe and healthy 😷
Thank you, Denise! Glad you liked this video. I can't even remember how I discovered root touch up, I think maybe I saw one at a sephora and tried it. I love that I don't have to color my hair as often anymore!!
I came from your blog and wanted to say. I just got paid from HubPages and I think I am going to buy the colors you suggested. I JUST started the bleaching process (blue black permanent dye). I am going blonde first just to say i was blonde once. Then strawberry ...then GiNgEr. Then probably back to black lol. I want to keep some darker bits in my hair. Yours is the perfect base I think. TY for your strawberry blonde posts!
I haven't been able to color my hair in a while .. I always did partial highlights which I love... .. I have a Bare Minerals like a medium tan type of cover up powder for my face and I was so aggravated one day..... I just took a big Kabuki brush and I just started powdering all my gray and I tell you it's similar probably to the powder touch ups..... it did a pretty decent job... I don't do the whole head.. just the front area ... just so it doesn't look so harsh with the gray .. which is now approximately 3 in... it did a pretty good job.... I'm sure the Clairol one seems to be pretty good.. I'll probably try that.. ..I tried the L'Oreal once ....the spray was sticky ...I agree ...it was so sticky... I couldn't even put a comb through my hair......so I would definitely opt for the powders as a temporary solution...enjoyed the video.. very very informative......🤩
Thank you soooo much for this! I color my own hair too, and dislike having to do it every month (roots only) as it is a pain and I like my hair to rest more. I think this spray or powders are on my shopping list now.
Oh, yay!! This makes me so happy to hear. I'm glad you found it useful. I was so surprised at how each of the shades looked in person vs on the bottle!
This was really fascinating. I color my hair at home and have never dabbled in touch up products. My hair grows slowly so I usually go 6 weeks-ish between sessions. I might have to explore some of the sprays you mentioned since I don’t think I’d have the patience for the powders. 😉
I get that! I get a little impatient with the powders too, but I can see why people like them. They feel really smooth and those pans last for-ever. It just also feels like it takes me forever to apply it, haha! But let me know what you think of the spray if you try it. It really saves me from having to color every 3 weeks.
I've tried the crayon 🖍 & the powder. The one I bought had a lt & dk brown color to choose from. I definitely like the powder one, but I'm lucky if it lasts a day. In a pinch I've even used mascara or eye shadow. 😅 i definately like then last one you used, the clairol powder. It was very pigmented & covered your roots quickly. Thanks for the show & tell.
Thank you! I'm so curious to try the crayons, that will have to be my next root touch up purchase when these run out. What did you think of the crayon? I will also update on the blog when I get the Clairol powders in Blonde in :)
@@girlgetglamorous It's not my favorite. You have to constantly re-wet it with each stroke. If You press too hard your scalp has the crayon mark & then you look unnatural. There's a learning curve. Only bonus, it stays on all day. Its a waxy base.
Thanks for the helpful video .!!! My hair appointment was supposed to be 2 days ago and I am in need of some serious root cover up . I’m a very light blonde right now so I might try the loose powder one you talked about. Looks like they a a very light blonde one!!! Thank you 😊
That is a great one! StyleEdit also makes good light blonde touch up sprays. I sadly just didn't get mine in time before filming this and really wanted to get this video up for people! Here is their site | styleedit.com/collections/all?aff=14
Here is an idea for anyone dealing with a few rogue eyebrow hairs: I use Clairol root touch up Powder. It works like a charm on the gray hairs and makes the eyebrows look a bit thicker. On my roots I use Everprobeauty Gray Away. It comes in a stick with a sponge at the end. The sponge might be ok for a very small area but I use a thick contour brush and it makes for a nice even application. Great tips Molly, love your videos!! Enjoy the weekend!
I got.the Rootflage in BRIGHT COPPER & LOVE IT It matches my pair perfectly. Another tip to pass on is the tinted conditioner my stylist recommended. It's called KERACOLOR (@ Ulta). They have Copper & it evens out the color between coloring. Between the Rootflage & Keracolor my hair will last a bunch longer. XOXOXO
Tip on the temple hard to reach Thank for this video your tips covering grays I use old mascara for the temples hide the grays I think they have cover gray mascara I seen in drug store or use mascara that matches your hair color hide your grays or powder thanks for the tips covering grays this helps a lot it’s affordable
Enjoyed this video. Thanks for trying so many out. I watched the whole thing and did not hear which product was your favorite sorry if I missed you saying it.
Thanks for watching, Andrea! All good, the Clairol spray has been my favorite. :) I just used it in an Instagram video as well if you want to see it in different lighting.
love your hair colour and really thinking about following your lead .... it would be great if you would make a video & show us how your hair colour looks exposed to different lighting ... perhaps even using that same formula with different hair colour swatches and how we can twerk it either way ....... that'd truly be interesting =). thank you!
I love the L’Oréal. It works great for me I’m dark brown and only have to use a little spray. I think you sprayed to much or close since it wasn’t your shade match
I think that your hair would look great gray! I am 53 and just starting to get some grays! You can tell a little in my videos! Do toners work to cover gray?
Molly, thanks for this video! I started searching products and gave up the ship until I found your video. I am Wondering if you can mix the copper and the honey in the Keracolor to help tone down that bright copper, which I am not. More strawberry like you. Oh my I just googled the cost, $22 each....Might as well color my roots. LOL
Thanks for the detailed vid!! Have you noticed that the sprays can be super itchy? I like to use for quick coverage, but they tend to make my scalp itch soooo bad!! 😫😬

Hi, I haven't, but that is a great idea! The clairol spray is a perfect match in person (it's interesting how it looks a little dark with the lights on it) so I've just been using that. But I'll try a little Strawberry Blonde powder over it to see how that looks, love that suggestion!! Thank you :)

L’Oréal is my favorite! I use it all the time... I take a q- tip and remake my part after. Maybe it’s the blond formula that’s doing that to you 🤷♀️
Hi Cheryl! Yes, I have heard a few people say that the love the L'Oréals (and I generally love ALL things L'Oreal), so maybe the blonde shades are just more sticky than the browns?

I wonder if you went platinum blond if it would suit you and then you might not have to touch up as often
L’Oreal I have used, but it makes my scalp itch if I leave it on overnight. Style Edit is the best and not sticky.

Merci
