    Video Summary:
    Transport of carbon dioxide from peripheral tissues to lungs is very interesting process. Unlike oxygen which simply binds with hemoglobin at lungs and is released at peripheral sites, carbon dioxide takes more complex path. It's mostly transported in from of bicarbonate ions. Some as complexed with hemoglobin and a small portion as dissolved state. Some of the interesting phenomenon associated with carbon dioxide transport is chloride shift (Hamburger shift) and changes in RBC size. AT peripheral sites chloride and water enter in RBC so RBCs in vein have more chloride and are slightly larger than those in artery.

    is this transport primary or secondary active transport and why?

    • @NonstopNeuron
      @NonstopNeuron  Год назад

      Primarily and secondary terms are for transport across membranes. Here we are talking about transport in blood. The movement of carbon dioxide across membranes occurs by diffusion, if that is what you want to know.

    • @NonstopNeuron
      @NonstopNeuron  3 года назад

      In terms on chemical reactions involved, transport of oxygen is relatively simple as it's mostly transported with hemoglobin. You can watch videos on oxygen hemoglobin dissociation curve. One is here: ruclips.net/video/MUKkv1rbOIM/видео.html
