I believe it’s a British miniseries. It’s based on the true story of George Villiers, the Duke of Buckingham, and his seduction of King James. This is actually spoken about in Red White and Royal Blue, when Henry tells Alex about how Giambologna’s Samson came to be held by the royal family in the V&A museum. (Chapter 10 pg 249 in the hardback, pg 287-88 in the ebook) and that the affair was the reason why King James commissioned the English translation of the Bible, to appease the clergy who was incensed by his flaunting of his relationship with Villiers. Amusing that Nicholas is now playing one of the historical gay personages that Henry references in the book.

Not true, it's an author's error.
KJB first edition was in 1612, George become Jemmie's lover online 2 years later, the lover at the time was Robert, or Robbie, Carr

      @mygoat0604 9 месяцев назад +6

Prince Henry's full name has both George and James in it. (They changed the last name in the movie to create a bit more fictional distance from the current actual royal family, I guess, but all the middle names are still identical.) Also, James I is one of the two gay kings that Prince Henry references in the book. Casey McQuiston really knows what they're doing.

@@mygoat0604 maybe, but the date is still the same.
KJV was authorized in 1611, George met James in 1614. The lover is Robert "Robbie" Carr, or Kerr for the Scottish version, who was arrested in 1614, point. So? So the line is an error, period 'cause it cannot be George, but Robbie

I was merely repeating the info from the book, and freely admit I did not do my due diligence in researching the accuracy of RWRB’s reference to which lover may have incited James to feel the need to appease the clergy. Thank you for the correction. I am still delighted that this historical reference Henry brought up in the book is being brought to life by the same actor who played him in RWRB.

I remember when I first saw pictures of Nicholas Galitzine in this months ago and saw who he was playing, my brain was like, "Wait! Isn't that the guy Henry mentions in RW&RB who was one of the kings' favorite lovers or something?" I went back to the book and confirmed it, and I remember thinking, "This is cool, for the same actor to portray a character that another one of his characters references."
Anyway, I love Julianne More. I agree, she's wonderful and heartbreaking in Still Alice!!
Oh, now that you mentioned watching other Galitzine movies, have you watched Handsome Devil? If you haven't, please do! It's a great movie; he's a few years younger, but I think he does a great job, and I love the message of the movie.

      So yes !

I think it's supposed to be a miniseries. Hopefully it comes out January 2024 because I really want to watch it. The show is based on Mary and George Villiers and their family's rise to power due to George's relationship with King James I, who Prince Henry mentions a couple times in RWRB.

there is a gigantic coincidence with RWRB going on here. Henry explains to Alex at some point that one of his names is James who was one of the gay kings and that he had an exceedingly beautiful and dim lover named George Villiars which Alex then quipped "so I'm your dumb jock?" James was so flagrant about George that he commissioned the King James Bible to shut the church of England up about his dalliances. the irony here is that Nick is now playing the dumb jock. (from the book: Henry explaining a quip to Alex "but it rhymes in French")
i'd be interested in this regardless of whether Nick was in it, but the crossover is beyond delicious.

I really like movies or series that are based on a real event or a real character who once existed and lived these events.
I read a lot of books and articles about King James I. In his time, he made many changes to reduce the hatred of homosexuals. He even published a new version of the Bible, which we still see in museums and some libraries as the King James Bible. George deceived King James. Because she was trained by his mother to use his charm to make the king fall in love with him. To save his family from poverty. But King James really loved George. Be sure to read the beautiful and romantic letters he wrote to George.
And YES! I'M HERE FOR NICHOLAS!!!

Galitizine plays George Villiers,Duke of Buckingham,in RWRB there is a second reference to him ; in the V & A museum Henry tells Alex about the priceless statue of Samson by the famous sculptor Giambolgna (the only one ever to leave Florence) which was a gift presented to Charles the first who then gifted it to The Duke of Buckingham whom he plays here

I'll help you: it's a Sky mini series where our "Bambi" as his sister Lexi calls him) is absolutely sparkling. It tells the story of George Villers who, due to his "arrivalist" mother Mary who will do anything because he "the most beautiful body in England" and in the world I add I become the favorite lover of King James V...unfortunately the ending is known since it is HISTORY...it should be released soon on Sky and streaming on Now and I am about 7/8 episodes ... all heartbreaking with an extraordinarily beautiful and talented Nicholas!!!!

I know Nick broke his ankle doing one of his own stunts while filming this show and that his character ends up having sex with 14 different people. I think he said he worked with the same intimacy coordinator from RWRB, Robbie Taylor Hunt, on this show, which I'm sure brought a level of comfort because it looks like the sex scenes are way more raunchy than the ones in RWRB.

So in the RW&RB there is a part where Henry is telling Alex about a gay King and his special favorite George Villiers. Nick is playing George Villiers. Henry’s version is a very,…romanticized version of events. Which makes sense cause it’s basically how in love James was. I am excited for this.

After watching the trailer I started to read up on Mary and George. Basically they wasn't in power or anything like that. Mary wanted to get in with the British Monarchy and she came up with this plan to have her son George seduce the king. Ultimately, they became the two most powerful people in the monarchy at a time when it was a lot going on. You had the Spanish War, and people were resisting the change.

It's like Heartstopper, but where the jock is not supportive to the out gay guy and is kind of mean to him (this is a common theme in teen gay romances with the out gay kid and the closeted jock, but Heartstopper turns that around where the jock, Nick, is very supportive).
