  • If you have never painted in gouache before, one of the things that may tempt you to try is that you can often correct your mistakes. That is HUGE!!! After working with watercolor for several years, I have fallen in love with the ease of returning to a painting to make adjustments. Today's video shows you how to go back and make a correction. Hope this helps you!

It’s amazing how forgiving gouache is. Love “the joy of gouache” statement. It was fascinating to see how easily you rectified “mistakes” with the gouache. Beats watercolors! Have a blessed weekend!

@@KariWaltz I have attended it before and wanted to go this year but a wedding shower for my grandson prevented it. Love that area! We have spent several anniversaries there. Spent a week on St. George island and also at Coombs Inn in Apalachicola. Watched Vickie Norman and Morgan Samuel Price pain. t I live near Kissimmee, fl.

Only 2 things I find difficult in Gouache... Blending smoothly and layering

Blending smoothly is the hardest for me. Have you tried wetting your paper first so it's a bit damp? I've gotten more comfortable with layers. Water control is the issue. Thin to think paint and not too much water or you reactivate the layer below. A soft brush might help too.
      Thanks for watching!

@@KariWaltz i feel there is a limit every medium has...we want 1 medium to fulfill all over needs as an artist...which is impossible. However i feel there is always one medium which is nearest to each one of our requirement..for me its oils. I could blend, layer, vibrant, archival, commercially viable, forgiving...what is yours? Gouache is handy, water soluble almost like oil but never fulfills to me atleast. We want 'X' medium to work for us..but thats not true always

@@KariWaltz Show me one Gouache artist who blends smoothly..who layers without a struggle? None...not even Mr.James gurney or Sarah Burns who are supposed to be icon for Gouache. Its not that they are incapable...the medium is such. Also to be noted this seamless blending can be caught in few subjects like portraits not in landscapes where you can be patchy and go unnoticed like the above great artists. I have immense respect for both but i m honest here.Honesty to me gives clarity not just people with big names
