    'The safety is between your ears' Damn haven't heard it put that way since my grandpa took me shooting out back of the chicken house. I was 10 years old I believe, maybe 11. I miss my grandpa greatly.

    Oh man. Quigley Down Under was my dad's favorite movie of all time. He would have loved going to this, we'd go shooting all the time. What a great event!

    What the one woman said is so true.
    Even if you don't or can't shoot visiting with others is just about as fun.
    I've gone to local ranges and sometimes did more talking with other shooters than actually shooting, and a few times didn't shoot at all.

    We think people shooting out that far, and sometimes much farther, with a scope is something, these people are doing that with open sights, that's impressive.

      There are videos people shooting a mile using a sharps with iron sights. No easy feat by any stretch. But if you have any questions good set up and know what you are doing you can shoot at any distance.

    My bride got me the Shiloh “big 50” Billy Dixon for my birthday and had it monogrammed with my initials. She loves me! I live in Houston, Texas and 350 yards is the longest range near me. One day maybe I’ll make it there.

    That's on my...bucket list (badump tsch). I'm only 160 miles from Forsyth, and actually have a Pedersoli Quigley model. Just haven't ever worked up the confidence to actually compete.

      Dang, wish I was that close. We drove from Central Texas last year and this year to play, that's almost 1500 miles. You definitely need to give it a go

    Oh wow!!! guys this sounds awesome! The same movie along with some recent cultural changes is what got me into firearms. I will be socking away a few bucks to buy one of these rifles and get there ASAP! Next fathers day i hope! GREAT STUFF GUYS!!!

      Look into used or "in-stock" rifles... the waiting list and waiting times are around a year if you want to order one from Shiloh Sharps. Also consider the Browning 1885 Hi-wall in .45-70 as an option to get started.

    Good morning Mark.. I go to the QUIGLEY SHOOT every year since 2003 . except for 2014 when it was rained out and 2020 cause of Clovis. It takes me 1 and a half hours to get there cause I live right outside of billings . the QUIGLEY is a blast we spend one week there every year.. There is more money in campers there then in the whole town of first the.. Look forward to going every year. THANK YOU FRANK FROM MONTANA........

    Loving this idea of Long range with open sights. Quigley is one of my fav western(-ish) movies next to Outlaw Josie Wales.
    I used to have an original Sharps 45/70 trapdoor (not carbine). So I particularly like those style of rifles. Blooming heavy though.

    One must realize that Quigley shot is pure entertainment. There are very few people if any that can make a free handed shot like that and hit a target at distance.

      Apart from the thousands of people who do that every weekend in Fullbore Matches in my country alone..... Add in UK, Canada, New Zealand etc .. Pretty sure America has a similar Match

      @@freyatilly I also run a Sharps rifle with black powder, I made a 660 grain bore rider mold up for it... My best 5 shot groups at 1000 with ladder sights are all on a 1 meter board . I have tried it on my 1 mile, had a few close impacts but havnt hit the 4x4 plate .

    The Sharps used in the film had an aluminum barrel because it was too heavy for Tom to handle. The long-range shot was movie fake.

      @@jamesharvey446 -- I held the actual gun from the move in Rawlings Wyoming in 1999 in a Traveling Gun Show called Wyoming Wild West. The gun had an authenticity certificate signed by the guns manufacturer and at least 10 pictures of Tom Selleck holding or aiming the gun. It is heavy and a bit awkward to hold but even as a guy who had never held one, I didn't find it as difficult to maneuver as you seem to whine about. Maybe you're just a Runt or to Soft to say the least.

      @@wanaraz most of the rifles are going to be the 1874 pattern but the manufacturers vary wildly from Italian replicas to original "Quigley" rifles.
      I only noticed one rifle in the Quigley style in this video.
      Now for caliber. I believe the Quigley rifle was 45-120 but most replicas are chambered in 45-70.
      I've never been to this event but if I had to guess I would say the vast majority of these are 45-70.
      BTW I saw at least one high wall in this video.
