Thank you. I just bought one. This video has helped me with reloading my string. For some reason, the bump wasn't working very well for me, maybe its just a learning curve.
Fresh line, solid tap while it’s at full speed
Just bought one of these yesterday. So far, i really like it. Main thing ive noticed in the first day of having it is its definitely a lit more powerful than my last trimmer, and the fuel efficiency is just awesome. I ran the trimmer around my moms property which is roughly an acre. I also trimmed around her home, porches, and carport then hit a few spots that i couldn't get to woth the mower. Afterwards, when i came home, i ran it around my home and my yard and all on one tank of fuel. My old trimmer would've gone thru 3-4 tanks of fuel doing the same work.
Awesome
Got one a few years ago and really enjoy its power! I’m on 5 acres and trim probably 2.5 hours, this trimmer never disappoints!
It’s a great product for the price point and weight
I have one of these and never knew the string was loaded that easy 🤦🏻♂️ always take it apart and fight with getting it back on with string in it 😂god I feel dumb now
Don’t feel dumb you didn’t know until you knew, and now you were educated. We can all learn something new every day, right
If you ain’t learning, you ain’t doin!!! All part of the process 🫡 we all dumb out here
Me too lol such an easy way to load the line now!!!😊
Me too, I was feeding it the old fashioned way 😅
Where were you two years ago when I first spooled my line! THANK YOU!!!
So glad that you found this helpful. Enjoy your trimmer.
Just commenting to say thank you! I’ve been loading this wrong ever since I got it, making it way too complicated. This makes much more sense.
So happy to help. Thanks for watching and subscribing to our channel
Thanks for the straight forward video...very helpful and worth the watch.
Thank you for the feedback and for subscribing to our channel we look forward to putting out more valuable content for you
I have the FS 56 RC-E. Never used the original bump feed head. Took it off as soon as I got home with it and installed the 20-2 SuperCut auto feed head. It holds 23 feet of trimmer line. The same head they come stock with in Europe. I'm sure my local ace probably sells that canned gas, but they also sell, and recommend non-ethanol, high octane ATV gas they sell by the gallon. In any event, I just buy 93 octane, non-ethanol gas from a local Co-Op station and it fires right up the next year just fine.
Great job. How do you like the Super Cut head?
@@carlsmowerandsaw I love it! Whenever I've had bump feed heads in the past I was always accidently bumping them and in no time I'd be out of line. With the SuperCut I can trim the whole yard twice before I need to refill it :)
There's no such thing as atv gas. I think what you mean is ethanol free. I've never been to a gas station and said I need atv gas... because it doesn't exist.. enjoy your time in the mountains Appalachia man. Have fun with your cousin.. or sister.. whatever
@@brettmiller6167 I’m not sure where you picked up ATV gas in this video. No there is not ATV gas I know that. Ethanol free fuel please. AV gas is incredible if you wanna really up the game. Thanks for watching (Josh from Washington)
@@brettmiller6167 If you had bothered to read the whole comment, I said I use non-ethanol 93 octane. ATV gas is just ACE Hardware's term for non-ethanol 100 octane "clear" gas. You didn't really think Exxon would put a tiger in your tank either...or did you? I'd hardly call Southern Indiana Appalachian, just rolling hills. Oh, and your Mama should have learned to say NO once in a while.
Great video, I just bought one to replace my 10 year old Husqvarna 223L, the line replacement portion was the most helpful, better explanation and demostration than the guy who sold it to me, Thanks!
Great to hear!
I've bought two of the FS 56 RC-E, one in 2021 and the other one in 2022 as a back up and still have them to this day. I do the service(air filter, spark plug and fuel filter) to them every season by purchasing the service kit for them and I do grease them regularly as well. I use nothing but nonethanol gas and mix a gallon of it with the Stihl 2 cycle oil. The original head for them I removed them in favor of the hybrid ugly trimmer head that uses 1 foot strips on three corners or the plastic blades. I love it. I do have one of the autocut 26-2 heads as a back up just in case. I've never used it though.
You are doing a great job
Thank you so much. I do my best to make equipment last. I treat my vehicles the same way.
Great video! Wife bought me one for Christmas. Breaking it out today.
Hope you enjoy it!
@@carlsmowerandsaw it was an experience. I was fine weed whacking but his issues with edging. I’m using to turning my head around for edging.
Also, I think I’m going to take the guard off.
@@rcnolandon’t do that. It is critical to life and performance.
(Audio very low this video) I first 'discovered' Stihl as a yard tools company perhaps 20yrs ago, & w/ only a single exception (details below), Stihl products have served me & my family very well. So, I own two Stihl FS56RC trimmers, the newer one w/ the '-E' designator, bought ~2yrs apart. When you've got a few acres to maintain, the work goes faster w/ two people trimming, hence second unit.
Now, I don't abuse my tools, but I am hard on them at times. Maintenance is the absolute KEY to keeping things around & happily working - whether a marriage or a weed wacker, the same holds true. Don't neglect things & give them your best care, & they'll never let you down.
I realize I forgot to mention my one, single Stihl 'problem child'. It's a two-stroke rototiller, the walk behind kind. I want to love it because it does a nice job when it's running, but it is such a finicky little bitch about everything that it's often a 15 or 20 minute exercise and frustration just to get it fired up every spring
We see that as a problem child often times. Usually it’s because it gets so little use. Have you tried using Moto mix in that unit all the time?
Thank you for the clear, concise explanation of this great tool!! You've just earned yourself a sub and like!! 👍
Awesome, thank you!
Thank you! You saved me from taking my new machine back to the dealer.
Great to hear!
that stock head on the 56 is a PIA and a finger punisher ! just got my 56 back from my stihl dealer , they have replaced the clutch 2 times in 3 years . when this 56 dies i'm gonna ger a echo .........
I’m sorry you’re having those problems. We traditionally aren’t seeing very many clutch issues and for sure we don’t see a repeat after we’ve done a repair so there’s something odd going on.
@@carlsmowerandsaw my dealer told me they're had been a problem with some of the 56 clutches . i have 1 year of my 4 year warranty left . told me it would have cost me $85 if it wasn't under warranty . my stihl 400c chainsaw is a a beast for my purposes though . VERY happy with it . thanks for replying and take care dude :) .
I have this and an older Echo. Both work well I prefer using the Echo between the two. It just works better for me for some reason.
Glad you enjoy your echo trimmer
Well done sir 💥🤛🏼💯
Thank you for the feedback. I’m glad it was helpful.
Thank u so so much finally can string it myself
You are so welcome.
I wish they always started that easy
I’m sorry you’re having starting issues. How old is your machine?
I didn't get a shoulder strap with mine , just the cheap safety glasses , and the head removal tool and book. Nothing else .
I’m sorry. I’ve got extras if you want take a road trip to Ferndale, Washington
Just bought one to go with my John Deere Z320M zero turn.
1 great piece of equipment
New to this, what gas should I run? 91 no ethanol? And mix it with what?
I’m about to purchase one but don’t want to over spend on gas when I have cans I can fill myself. Useto do lawn care but never paid attention to the gas.
This is one of the first things I talk about in this video check it out. I think it’ll answer your questions.
Very, very useful video, thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Nice video 👍
Thanks Harry.
This video is very informative. My string is really short and for some reason Im unable to remove the old string so that I can restring it. It just will not budge!
Have you taken the bottom off of the trimmer head that is probably your next move
Just bought one, took like 10 pulls to start. Once started, lost power and died. Then wouldn’t want to start again and so on. Anytime I finally get it started, it dies out
Something doesn’t sound right
@@carlsmowerandsaw brought it to the store this morning so the employee could check it out, he agreed something is wrong and they’re going to fix it or give me a new one if they can’t… so that’s good at least.
A little frustrating since it’s brand new
But on a side note, I came across your channel and I’ve noticed you put out a lot of good info, thanks! 🍻
My line keeps pulling back into the head right after restring. Is there a lock position on the head to keep the string from drawing back in?
No there is not. Are you leaving enough line out of the head and are you tapping it often enough?
Super noob here. This is top tier noob video haha thanks.
Glad I could help. We hope you enjoy your Stihl trimmer for years to come.
Great video bro thanks
No problem 👍
Haveing truoble with line dispence.
Start with fresh round line. Tap more often
So the head is supposed to spin on cold start, or full choke?
It will yes!
@@carlsmowerandsaw ok thank you
I just bought the straight shaft 70. It cane with the strap with no shoulder pad and the head that doesn't load easily like this one on the viedo. Also no easy grease bolt hole. I was disappointed.
The FS70 is a better tool.
Love your videos more so when you talk about my favorite product motomix i know you read my comments can you tell me the difference between the 26-2 & 27-2 heads please many thanks Kevin
26-2 is a head that is designed to be loaded without taking it apart. The 27-2 requires you to open it up and rewind it. The 27-2 is generally more reliable in its feeding characteristics.
Thanks for pointing that out easiest way to load a head is the way you show us keep em coming
Just picked up one yesterday. Not sure if i already have an issue or not. When its running if i give it a little gas you can hear a clunking sound that goes away after a few seconds. If I give it more gas it still does it just not as loud. Is this normal or should i be taking it back to the dealer. Kind of hard to explain lol
Is it the clutch engaging?
@@carlsmowerandsaw that is my thought. Just never heard that sound coming from an engine before. It's quite loud for a few seconds of you go easy on the throttle. Going a lil harder it's not as pronounced or as long. Probably gonna drop it at the local dealer just just make sure
That’s funny you said that bc I had someone look at mine too. Brand new. Ended up being the clutch. Lol. My other weed eaters never make that sound. Almost sounded like a knock. But turned out being normal lol.
Great fucking video. Come to NJ
On my way. 😂
I never heard this guy tell you you got to use I never heard this guy tell you you got to use Stihl 2-cycle oil or it will plug the spark arrestor. Also, I don't know anyone or why anyone would run a weed eater full throttle all the time. The spark arrestor clogging up is no big deal it's one little screw you just take it out clean it put it back in or not put it back in. I started buying gallons of Lucas 2-cycle and my spark arrestors would clog up so I took them out of all my Stihl equipment about 4 years ago and they ain't had no problem since. When you do lawn care for a living you learn little tips and tricks and the service people and especially the sales people in these places doesn't really know what they're talking about. I mean some of them do but for the most part it's just trial and error. DFS 56 trimmer is a good trimmer though I have 42 yards I take care of every week and I have had the same trimmer for 4 years along with a couple bigger weed eaters in case I need to cut thick stuff but the fs 56 is a good cheap everyday weed eater even for a lawn care company or just a homeowner.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts
I went from a 25 year old electric craftsman weed eater that i got for $5 20 years ago to a FS 56 RCE this week. Imagine my surprise when it cut 30 minutes off my actual yard work time and my edges have never looked better. I would tell someone to set their strap up to where your shoulders are holding the machine and your arms are just moving it, then it's like butter.
Think about all that time spent. 😉
"Weed Eater" is a trademark name brand of the same type tool as this.....called a TRIMMER.
Nice runner but that bump n feed is JUNK ! Worked on pulling stuck line out more than I used it. Your video is very good though. Thank you.
Sorry to hear that. We’re seeing pretty good results with the C26-2 head.
What about blades? I don’t want to pay double for a universal model just to edge my curb.
It recommends not using blades why is that? Stoppage? I see people using them but I don’t want to hit something and mess it up.
Will the poly-28 tackle edging without burning through the plastic blades?
In order to properly edge you should use a bladed edger Line or poly cuts do ok on soft edges but not great on concrete edges. The FS56 runs a cable and cables and blades don’t get along. Plus installing a blade and trying to hold it and edge with is crazy dangerous. I’ve tried and when that blade “catches” something it wants to run on you. Not good
@@carlsmowerandsaw Thanks. Guess I’ll be having a pretty jagged edge for a while. I’ve pretty much decided on this weed eater because of your videos.
Just curious, what model would I need to move up to for a shaft driven unit?
@@kermit368 this may help. ruclips.net/video/6bzyIPog5Eg/видео.htmlsi=MzZbpphSnIYV8cIz
Or move up to an FS 91R considerate Kombi
I can get the string to release. I can’t refill either. Please help

How much do mail an FS 56 C E to New Jersey?
Sorry. Find a good local independent dealer
I have owned mine for almost a year now and I would never go to anything else.
Glad you love it. What did you run before?
Can the head be greased?
Most all of the FS56 gear boxes cannot be greased
No I don't own one I have fs251r though that I just put away it ran out of string and don't feel like messing with it right now
Nice. Great time for a break!! We have a video on how to rewind that head 😉
Just bought a new fs40c. Great overall machine but the string head on it is a piece of shit. It wont advance the line. I will definitely be finding a better replacement or i will take it back and get a refund.
Do you have an FS56 or FS40?
@@carlsmowerandsaw fs40c
FYI its hard to hear you well
I’ll turn up the mic

Check with your local dealer for the price because the price varies based on region and if there is a seasonal sale in place
Take it from me, do not buy the speed feed type head from Stihl. It's absolute junk it's hard to turn and 105 string is extremely tight getting through the hole until you have said about 20 or 30 rounds through it and it has loosened up a little bit. If you have carpal tunnel, trust me do not buy this piece of junk. They have a universal speed feed that will go on a Stihl weed eater and it is great. My Stihl dealer lied to me when he told me it was a better speed feed and he basically lied to me when he said it would accept 105. I mean will 105 goes through it yes but you have to pull on the string really hard then when you go to wind it in it's extremely hard. Just trust me people do not buy it.
Yes, the C 26-2 can be a challenge
EY, WHATCHU KNOW ABOUT THEM SAFTEY SQUINTS
They’re the best
By the way little heavy!
Its weight is right in the neighborhood of the other comparable units. The Husqvarna 522l is a bit lighter but $100 more.
The string head is a piece of junk. I will find a better replacement or return it for a refund.
The auto cut 5-2 will fit on that machine. It does require you to pull it apart and reload it, but I find it has better feeding characteristics and can lead to less frustration. If not, consider putting the Duro cut. 5-2 on which is a simple strip feed head.
Great video very VERY bad audio.
Sorry about that. I have invested in better equipment
Sound is terrible
I just watched this and audio sounds fine. What are you picking up as a problem? I appreciate your feedback
@@carlsmowerandsawI didn't have an issue hearing you.
