Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga's chemistry is my favorite thing of the Conjuring films. Their portrayals of Ed and Lorraine Warren make them my horror movie pair. Yeah the fact that Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga make Ed and Lorraine Warren so likable is one of the things I most hate about the Conjuring francise (though far from the only thing!). The real Warrens were grifters and Ed Warren was a gross creep with a 15 year old girl! And, tbh, it also bugs me that you consider no cussing and rated PG-13 to be reflection of morality when this entire franchise mainstreams a pair of grifters and their harmful ideas! This series basically depicts a modern version of the same ideas that led to the Salem Witch trials, and the only reason they didn't include people being executed as a just ending is that cultural norms are slightly less blood thirsty...for now. But hey at least no one got naked or said a bad word! Everyone knows that seeing a boob is way worse than glorifying a conman who had an affair with his teenage assistant.

George, to your question about why haunted houses are always remote, there's a great ghost movie with John Cusack called 1408 where the haunting is in a hotel room on the 14th floor. It's one of the wilder and more intense movies out there.

Sleepwalking is a bizarre experience, hard to describe. You wake up standing in random areas. Then fall back to sleep while standing, and wake up again in a different location. I sleepwalked as a kid and once last month as a fully grown adult. I used to wake up in different parts of the house. The last month was at my girlfriend's place where apparently I stood looking out the kitchen window at the neighbours house for a not-short period of time. Very vaguely remember seeing a light on the neighbour's house and just couldn't pull myself away from it.
The second one is even better. I wrote a letter to Lorraine Warren years before these movies started and she wrote back! She shows up in the lecture scene
When my sister was little, she would sleep walk down the stairs to the living room where my parents would be watching tv and just sit down on the couch like she just couldn't sleep. Her eyes were even open during all this so they didn't think anything of it. Then, after a few minutes, she would let out a bloody horrific scream and wake up. She was apparently experiencing night terrors. After 3 times of this happening, my father added a small metal latch by the top of the door that would lead from the bedrooms downstairs. My sister couldn't reach it. Apparently, after one night trying the door, she couldn't open it and just went back to bed and never had a night terror ever again.
I was a HUGE sleep walker when I was a kid and every now and then my brother would tell me that I'd wake up, talk to him and go back to bed... One night he said that I woke up and kept staring at him..... If it was me, I'd freak the hell out. It was more frequent when I was a kid, today I just talk A LOT when sleeping, usually it's just giberish, my girlfriend gets confused a lot XD

In reference to your conversation about haunting/horror movies that take place in less rural areas, there's a few I can think of. 1408 takes place in a hotel room, Evil Dead Rise takes place in an apartment building, Devil takes place in the elevator of a business complex, both versions of Candyman take place in urban communities. They're all pretty decent if you need some October watch material.
One explanation as to why the hauntings are usually in remote houses, is that remote houses are typically older. The older they are, the more people are likely to have lived in them, and the more chance that someone did something horrible or died in a horrible way there. In terms of the film industry, remote homes feel weightier due to the location, age, and size.
28:45 If it helps Simone, Ed Warren was a known conman & serial adulterer. I was fascinated by the Warrens when I was a child - I read, "The Demonologist," & immediately wanted to know everything about Ed & Lorraine. Sadly, what I found was definitely an interesting couple of weirdos, but none of their claims were verified or true. Also, the film is impressively accurate with Lorraine Warren's 1970's former/wannabe Catholic nun modesty chic. The high frilly collars are practically ripped from the headlines...
Yeah they are definitely a case where the more you look into them, the more disappointing the whole story becomes, especially when you get to Ed's personal life haha. Different times!
10:28 I’ve never heard Simone scream 😂 Y’all gotta put the horror movie The Cell with Jlo and Vince Vaughn in your poll ! It’s so underrated PS : MORE JAMES WAN HORROR MOVIES PLEASE lol
28:41 "Do you guys ever feel like if you watch something like this, you're inviting...like...things in?" Uh, yeah. Though I believe what you're inviting in as hallucinations caused by irrational fears. I've been around a few possessions, hauntings, etc. - and nothing ever jumped out at me as supernatural. It was just fear or delusions.
Yes George, I used to sleep walk quite a lot when I was younger and had an imaginary friend that scared my mom half to death. The last time I was sleepwalking I was 13 and went from the basement(my room) up to the door to outside and out the garage. Probably 60 feet or so away. Grabbed my bike and my dad was tinkering in the garage when this happened. He woke me up and said "where you going to?" I said "for a ride". He stopped me and sent me back to bed. I remember only the conversation part. Now I have very vivid dreams and talk in my sleep.
I sleepwalked a couple of times when I was kid. My mother and siblings were living in a medium-sized flat and I remember a couple nights when I just kept waking up in different places. Lucky for me, I was never afraid of the dark but it felt really odd; I went to sleep on my bed and woke up sitting the couch on the living room, then spaced out and woke up staring at the covers in the kitchen, then again fell asleep and woke up by the side of my mother's bed, sitting in the floor. Finally woke up in the morning and I was back in my bed. The first night I thought I was just dreaming, but it happened to me a few more times after that. I stopped eventually and I never did it again. Never told anyone about it, dunno if they ever noticed but I do remember it vividly.
I did a fair amount of sleepwalking when I was a kid. One night, I tripped and fell headfirst into an old-fashioned console TV my folks had. I hit my right ear on one of the corners, and my ear got about halfway torn off. I had to get plastic surgery. My ear looks a bit weird now, but it hears just fine.
This movie caught my attention purely because they had one of the best "less is more" jump scares EVER in the trailer, and I HAD to see it based on that alone. The trailer showed the scene where the mother is at the top of the stairs to the basement, in the dark lighting matches, and you KNOW there's nothing behind her, just a blank wall, and yet the ghost boy asks "Want to play hide and clap?" and his hands reach out to clap from behind her. Genius.
If you research Ed and Loraine Warren they are not as legit as they are made out to be. The do not, in fact, try and explain the hauntings first. Also, heart monitor was genius.
Sure they did! It's just that their explanation was always "Demons". They much preferred a good story to accurately relaying witness reports and flat out told biographers to just make up a good story when they cast doubt upon witnesses.
They are complete frauds. Like the storof Annabelle, about 5 years before his claims of a possessed doll, there was an episode of the twilight zone that describes his claims to a tee. ( so he ripped off the show )
That random comment about ghosts lost in the crowd reminds me of a couple of ghost stories I've heard. One is about ghosts that don't haunt places or things, but specific events---in the story's case, vehicular accidents. They decide who lives and dies, and they "kill" by giving bad advice to people ("I think they're losing blood, you should put on a tourniquet," for example) before professional responders arrive. The other is about ghosts that haunt night parades or festivities, basically any large gathering of people. They don't do harm if you leave them alone, but if you show any hint that you can see them, they take your soul and make you part of the ghost festival. So yeah, being horrified in a crowd can be a thing too. 😆
Sleep walking story. I was once staying at a place with my dad, one of his friend's places that I have never been before. In the night, I slept walked out of the bedroom, down the hall, down the stairs, into a bathroom and locked myself in. I woke up seeing myself in the mirror, face lit by moonlight that came in through the window. I freaked out and tried to open the door but it was locked. I had to remember where I was, then walk back up the stairs down the hall, into the bedroom and go back to sleep. Also, an even scarier moment during that trip. Someone made me a sandwich with miracle whip instead of mayonnaise and didn't tell me and I thought I had a rancid sandwich and spit it out.
Props to Simone for making it through the movie! I loved yalls reaction! 🖤 I hope yall continue reacting to the Conjuring movies. I also love the HR monitor. You've got a strong heart Simone ❤
What i liked the most just from the first minute, was the accurate scenery, cars, clothes, haircuts and even colergrading that made it look like back then in the early 1980s. The scariness of this movie was not because of gory effects, but the transportation of the feeling "Fear". One Look in Simones eyes you can tell. So i understand the MPAA, that they thought, you can not cut out that uncomfortable disturbing feeling.
an another thing: when Wan wrought Conjuring, in that same year he brought us insidious2. And from there i lost track of which franchise is which. I never understood, what this was supposed to be...
My little sister used to sleepwalk on occasion, which was always spooky because her eyes were open, but she was sleeping. You'd catch her wonder around the bedroom in a fugue state. I'd tell her she was sleeping and then guide her back to bed. The next day she had no memory of it.
6:24 there actually are reported ghost sitings from the great wall, the valley of the kings in Egypt and Pompeii. Many tourists locations have reported ghost sitings.
Simone, getting wind chimes might seem to be a good and comfortable idea-- the reality is that they're really annoying. A good stiff wind could wake you up.
I love Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga so much in this it almost makes you forget that the real Warrens were very possibly weird grifters and horrible people.
I used to sleepwalk as a kid. I never remembered anything though. My mom said I'd usually just go around the house and turn all the lights on, but one night I apparently walked out of the house and sat down in the middle of an intersection in our neighborhood (it was a little side residential area, so no cars actually came by). My mom followed me out and waited with me until I got back up and went back to bed.
Re: Simone's comment about watching horror films inadvertently inviting things in reminds me of a quote by Montague Rhodes James (a 19th Century horror writer): "I feel that it may not be quite prudent to brood over topics which may open the interior eye to the presence of more formidable visitants. Enough said." 😆
I went to elementary school in Harrisville. It's a village that is part of the town Burrillville. Not only that, but the school (W.L. Callahan) is literally down the road from that house.
The Why Files definitely tweaked my perspective about the Warrens, but still entertaining especially with Simone’s reaction. I’m too damn desensitized 😢😂
When someone is referred to the Catholic Church for an exorcism, the exorcist will first have the victim submitted for a medical and psychological evaluation. Some exorcists say 98-99% of people referred for an exorcism just have a psychological disorder that can be properly diagnosed and treatment will begin. If the doctors are stumped, the Church will investigate further. The priest will throw tap water on the victim, telling them it's holy water. if the victim responds violently, the priest knows they're faking it. The priest will add legit holy water to certain possessions of the victim and the victim won't go near them. After gaining enough evidence, the exorcism begins.

"interesting couple of weirdos" isn't exactly how I would describe those two grifting child-predators.
I hope you guys stick around for THE CONJURING 2, which is the best in the franchise.
I don't think so, conjuring 1 was the peak of the whole franchise. Nothing has been better than this
Um, no this one is the best one, but two was really good, I will give you that. :)
10:28 I’ve never heard Simone scream 😂
Y’all gotta put the horror movie The Cell with Jlo and Vince Vaughn in your poll ! It’s so underrated
PS : MORE JAMES WAN HORROR MOVIES PLEASE lol
28:41 "Do you guys ever feel like if you watch something like this, you're inviting...like...things in?" Uh, yeah. Though I believe what you're inviting in as hallucinations caused by irrational fears. I've been around a few possessions, hauntings, etc. - and nothing ever jumped out at me as supernatural. It was just fear or delusions.
Other great James Wan movies:
Dead Silence
Malignant
Insidious
I loved Dead Silence I remember when it was on Netflix watching it all the time i def gotta rewatch it
Yes George, I used to sleep walk quite a lot when I was younger and had an imaginary friend that scared my mom half to death.
16:03 this song is by Ryan goslings band dead man’s bones
I did a fair amount of sleepwalking when I was a kid. One night, I tripped and fell headfirst into an old-fashioned console TV my folks had. I hit my right ear on one of the corners, and my ear got about halfway torn off. I had to get plastic surgery. My ear looks a bit weird now, but it hears just fine.
1:46 George explains that the movie won the poll. Studio Logos are rolling.
Look at Simone's face.
16:01 the fun music is by a group called Dead Man's Bones which Ryan Gosling is singing in.
Frauds and hucksters exploiting fear and ignorance (to this day it seems...)
Ed and Loraine Warren are not legitimate anythings except con-artists, that a decent horror movie gives them any legitimacy mortifies me.
( so he ripped off the show )
i mean, the supernatural isn't real so of course they were frauds.
"Do you ever feel like if you watch stuff like this it...invites things in?"
People who've watched Ju-On: *nervous sweating*
15:59 it's a song from ryan gosling's halloween band so it's appropriate for the scene!! also a great song
6:24 there actually are reported ghost sitings from the great wall, the valley of the kings in Egypt and Pompeii. Many tourists locations have reported ghost sitings.
I remember seeing this in theater. I was forcing myself to not blink. didnt want to miss anything!!
10:37 man that was a real scream lol definitley 2 types of people when watching horror lol
On a non movie side not but Ron Livingston's sister, Jennifer, use to be an anchor at one of my local TV stations. The morning anchor.
Simone, getting wind chimes might seem to be a good and comfortable idea-- the reality is that they're really annoying. A good stiff wind could wake you up.
1st OMFG by Luna 😂 Speaking on haunting in apartment highrises, you should check out 1408!
Usually when I watch movies like this, the feelings I get are intrigue and enjoyment.
When the investigators start moving into the house to do their work, it reminded me of Stephen King's Rose Red
I would love to see Simone and George watch "The Haunting of Hill House".
Re: Simone's comment about watching horror films inadvertently inviting things in reminds me of a quote by Montague Rhodes James (a 19th Century horror writer): "I feel that it may not be quite prudent to brood over topics which may open the interior eye to the presence of more formidable visitants. Enough said." 😆
The spike from 67-82 beats was wild lol 😂
I recommend The Strangers for you..amazing work of lighting, hand held cinematography and especially the sound design
They should react to the Flanaverse, starting with The Haunting Of Hill House.
Now you guys have to watch all of them ❤😂 Simons reactions are always amazing, love watching these two. Get me through my mornings.
I went to elementary school in Harrisville. It's a village that is part of the town Burrillville. Not only that, but the school (W.L. Callahan) is literally down the road from that house.
There‘s a very good, very spooky Japanese movie called Dark Water which is set in a haunted apartment.
The Why Files definitely tweaked my perspective about the Warrens, but still entertaining especially with Simone’s reaction. I’m too damn desensitized 😢😂
why is it so enjoable watching simone scared witless at these movie 😂
and george being so nonchalant about it just makes it funnier ha
"People who skipped the intro..."
**"HOW DID HE KNOW? IS HE A GHOST TOO?!"**
One of my favorite horrors along with #2 and “Annabelle : creation” (the second Annabelle) so stoked!
Y’all defo gotta do the rest of the conjuring franchise movies. They fire
Kudos to LUNA 😂
James Wan is LEGIT
One of my favorite lines in ghost stories is, "You noticed them, and they noticed that you noticed them".
I really like this movie, the entire saga. You make it very enjoyable with your reactions.
If I remember right, the action of Poltergeist 3 happen in the flat of scyscrapper)) so, it's not always lonely houses on the hills
Loved loved loved this, between George's puns, Simone freaking, and now TSwift is tied yall together forever. Would def love to see more horror, like Hereditary, The Lodge, and The Haunting of Hill House. Going to join ur patreon shortly, cuz y'all r the best channel I follow. ❤🤘
Story.... my niece went through a phase when she was 6 saying "imma go play with the ghost, there goes the ghost pointing" we kinda let it slide for a bit until my cousin found her standing in the dark staring at the wall with her hand out! I didn't believe them, time passes we are bbqing we can't find her and I walk into a pitch black room.....standing there with her hand out. 😮 I yelled "hell naw get your damn kid out the house dude" 😂😂😂😂😂 trust I did that. Lol
Absolutely Love this Franchise and rly hope you guys watch the whole franchise... in order of which they came into theatres..... here's a few more Possession/ Exorcism movies:
* The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005)
* The Possession (2018)

* Drag Me To Hell (2009)
* Insidious (2010) + Franchise
" - It's actually easy to tell if your house is haunted:
It isn't.
Grow up."
Jimmy Carr
Her heart rate never goes up above 75 so Simone's either faking being scared or that device you're using isn't working...
I wanna watch all scary movies with Simone 😂. Thank you for all the laughs!
