What makes these movies truly terrifying is that they are based on cases that actually happen. The pictures and recording at the end are the actual evidence they gathered while they were in the home.

Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson's chemistry and portrayal of Ed and Lorraine is really the heart of these movies. Amidst all this scary stuff happening it's just a beautiful love story. Btw, if you're going to watch the whole franchise a fun fact is that Vera Farmiga's sister Taissa Farmiga plays the lead in The Nun movies.
This movie takes place six years after the first one and it is LOOSELY based on the Warrens' investigation of the Enfield poltergeist. The real-life events became the longest recorded paranormal case of poltergeist activity in history. Some have claimed that the real Janet Hodgson was a gifted ventriloquist or had the power to manipulate voices, and she admitted to faking about 2% of the events. People from The Society of Psychical Research in England researched this case long before the Warrens, moved into the house at one point and investigated this case for over a year. The Warrens only stayed for a couple of days. The remaining living members of the Hodgson family visited the set. Frances O'Connor, who portrays the mum, refused to meet them as she feared it would affect her performance.
The case the Warrens are investigating in the beginning is their most famous and documented case: The Amityville horror. The boy ghost Lorraine sees is based on the infamous photo supposedly taken by Gene Campbell, a professional photographer who worked with the Warrens.
The name of the demon nun "VALAK" is shown in the background in the Warren house numerous times: Along the kitchen window in colorful cutout letters right behind Ed, along the edge of the wood kitchen counter in raised letters to Lorraine's right and when she's standing at the sink, on the bookshelf when Lorraine is reading The Bible in large wooden letters and on the bracelet Judy is making.
Besides the painting of the Nun there is also a painting of a farmhouse in the woods with a creepy tree in the foreground. It's the Perron family farmhouse from the first movie.
The third Conjuring movie is considered not as good as the first two but it has more of a mystery/thriller feel to it rather than horror. A fourth one is in production. A movie centering The Crooked Man was officially in development, but James Wan stated that it was shelved for reason out of his control but hopes for a future release.

@@RaggedyPack Yes, Lorraine Warren died just a few short hours after selling "The Devil's Rocking Chair", the VERY SAME rocking chair where David Glatzel and Lorraine Warren could both see "the beast" sitting in the chair. David Glatzel was a little boy whose older sister and her boyfriend were very close to David. David became possessed and violent, lashing out and hurting people. Finally, Ed and Lorraine Warren became involved, and during an exorcism, Arne Johnson, David's sister, Debbie Glatzel's boyfriend, grabbed the possessed David by his shoulders, shook him and told the demon to pick on someone its own size, leave David alone, and take Arne instead. The demon obliged. Not long after this happened, Arne Johnson killed their landlord, and what followed was the first time the "The Devil Made Me Do It" court defense was ever used in the United States. It didn't work. Arne was sentenced to time in prison, Debbie stood by his side and they married as soon as they were able. The demon has not bothered David Glatzel, Debbie and Arne, or any of the rest of the Glatzel family since the exorcism on Arne Johnson.
Oh, and BTW, the person who BOUGHT The Devil's Rocking Chair from Lorraine Warren on the day she died, was none other than Zak Bagans. I believe Lorraine felt she needed to find someone who would care for the chair responsibly before she could pass.

I was a little surprised that James Wan didn't try to do The Amityville Horror himself, given that the original story isn't under copyright (you can't copyright real events) but it'd be almost impossible to adapt it without stepping on the toes of one adaptation or another. (And the last few attempts to adapt it haven't done particularly well either.)

I have a friend in Liverpool... she and I are in our 60s, she said when she was a kid, she remembers her parents talking about this house and family, as well as the newspapers and TV news then in English reporting on these hauntings. This was a TRUE story and the interviews from the TV news stations there, were real, my friend seen the original news casting live then. To this day, no explanations have been given of the occurrences that happened there.

Ed Warren passed before the movies were made. So he had no input on these movies. Vera Farmiga spent time with the real Lorraine so Lorraine had some input before she passed. But they are loosely based on the files Ed Warren kept of the cases they worked on. People in the paranormal field loved Ed and Lorraine and they were considered experts in their field, including by the Catholic Church, so this is pretty much how people viewed them. As the movies progress, the franchise took over and made them much less "based on actual events" but the Conjuring 1 to 3 include more from the case files, photos, sound files, and films.

I love all the conjurings. They all have their own different thing. We got the witch in the 1st one, demon using Bill as a pawn in 2, and 3 is more of an investigating paranormal case. Love them all equally. If we are talking about jump scares alone. It's 2 for me. 1st one got me good the first time i watched it, but 2 still give me chills everytime i watch it. Yes. I rewatch these movies ever so often. 😂 2 still gives me chills today. I feel like 2 is more creative with the scary/creepy scenes too. With Janet slowly turing into Bill, the connection of Bill's message on the tape, and the nun going into the painting. Top notch.

Interesting. I didnt look it up, I take information from all sorts of sources and place it in my mind. That's why i'm wondering about such instances. I kinda think that possession is misunderstood. Either by your brain, fear as a factor of protection, or interpretation. The intend to harm will harm, no matter what. So even toys can be misused, as long as there is harmful intention. I don't know what to make of these movies and origins, or any kind of phenomena. Bc the most reactions I see, is shooting at it. Until you understand what it is. I rather go into it and deal with whatever it is

Yes that rotten corner is foul but I’m guessing either the mom is too poor to afford paint or it’s been painted and goes back to that. BTW the original house didn’t have that wall like that and yes you are right. Ed and Loraine didn’t do so good by the first and second family of these hauntings. Janet is now in her 50s and completely traumatized and the family from the first movie actually kicked them out after than “exorcism” they tried on the house. The ghost became incredibly violent. All these movies are from their books their perspective

    Here comes my useless knowledge..
..The Clash song played at the beginning of the film would not be released until a year after the events in this film take place..
..the actor who plays Janet is an American.. She did an amazing job for a child with the accent..
..the demon/s sometimes manifests differently in the form of each characters fears, ie as in for Billy seeing the crooked man. That's why it appears so cartoon- ish because we are seeing it through a child's eyes..frame rate reminds me of the babadook movie..
..think I read that Vera Farmiga damaged her vocal chords so much from screaming that she had to have surgery..
..a couple of "The Exorcist" homages I noticed were the shaking beds, and the dresser sliding towards the mom, like the wardrobe in the exorcist..
    "Why is Bill so powerful?"
    "It's his house." Lol look
Finally, Corey was right about the letters spelling Valak on the bookshelves..they are also spelled on the kitchen wall in the previous scene at about 21.05 in this video..
..and are also spelled out on the block letters on the bracelet Judy is crafting in the scene before the scene with the Nun in Ed's study..
    XO

This film is loosely based on a claimed, real-life haunting in Enfield, nr London, and has another TV interest in it, called The Enfield Haunting, based at 284 Green St, Enfield. On Google Maps, the front of this house is blocked from viewing, and the house has no door number reference on mapping either. Ironically, I used to work for a firm that had a depot nearby, only about one mile away from this address, and I knew nothing about it at the time. I no longer work for that company, and they have closed that depot since anyway.

    • @dartigens10
      @dartigens10 Месяц назад

The blurring/blocking of the house from Google Maps is probably at the owner's request - the house used to be owned by the UK government's social housing authority (not sure the exact name of the department) but was sold sometime after this to a private owner who rented it out again.
Apparently, most of the tenants have been harassed repeatedly by ghost hunters (and more recently, fans of the film) taking photos or wanting tours, so the owner's probably trying to discourage that since that would put a lot of people off of renting it.

Fun fact: the nun movie’s protagonist is actually the real life sister of the actress who plays Lorraine Warren. Amityville murders was a real event the son shot and killed his parents and four siblings while they were sleeping and nobody from the family to the neighbours heard the gunshots (shotgun) and all family members were all found facing down ( was not moved post-mortem). If you look closely Valek’s name is spelled out in different places through the movie.

Fantastic reaction,..saw this in theater, terrifying of course,..aside from what families, especially kids go through, in the way of what a humans inflict on them, that's bad enough, but something like this, supernatural, inflicted harm, is just so horrible, I so loved the mom in this, she's a single mom, and she tried hard to protect her kids, and you see these stories, and these are good people, they weren't drug dealers, hardened criminals, they were everyday people, and the whole doom and gloom over the household, that's the point, keeping the person, persons down, distraught, in despair, any glimpse of happiness is shot down, kids, you know kids should be happy, have happy childhoods, and it was a mistake for the girls to be playing with ouija board, it's not something to play with, and your right, the demon, was testing her Lorraine's faith, Ed's too, ...really enjoyed watching this with ya'll,..keep going,
    Godspeed, Peace ✌

The first time Janet starts talking in the voice on the bed with her sister listening absolutely terrifies me still, it hits hard to home as something similar happened to my little sister when she was 5/6 years old
We live in England in a old town and always new something was weird with the house always had bangs and creaks in the night but this only time it was about 2am and she bolted up in bed (we shared a room) and started screaming and shouting “don’t you dare go downstairs” and she started swearing at me she never swore before mum came running in to try and comfort her but nothing was working she eventually took her downstairs to show her no one was there then she came out of it and in her normal voice said why are we down here I’m tired and then mum tucked us both back in.
I didn’t sleep a wink that night 😅 to this day my sister she’s 24 now can’t remember what happened

ed and lorraine warren were actually bad people in real life. apparently ed was abusive and a pedo. and apparently they were both in some degree con artists. also in the first 2 hauntings (the parron family and this family) they actually made things way worse which resulted in both families kicking them out of their houses. the real Andrea Parron (one of the sister’s from the first movie) she said that ed and lorraine had someone do a ritual to help cleanse their house and it actually summoned something that almost killed their mother. in this movie the real Janet, she is in her 50s now and she’s completely traumatized by what the Warrens did. so while the Warren’s were well known and loved by many and did help sometimes. they weren’t good people.

I feel like you guys should watch them in release order which is:
    1. The conjuring
    2. Annabelle
    3. Conjuring 2
    4. Annabelle 2
    5. The Nun
    6. Annabelle 3
    7. Conjuring 3
    8. Nun 2
So maybe go back and watch the first annabelle, then continue with the release order from conjuring 2. Great reaction!
Also, yes annnabelle is real but none of those movies are based on a true story. The “nun” isnt real at all.

I love your guys' reaction to these movies! They are in my top favorite movies! I especially love the Warrens (I'm a scaredy cat and feel safe when they are around lol).
I can't wait for your reaction to the Conjuring 3! I'm more of a character person so the 3rd one is my favorite for that reason (more of Ed & Lorraine). I know some people don't like it as much because it isn't as scary? (I was scared a lot rip) But I found the story so interesting and unique! It's more of a mystery/detective/thriller type story.
There is a new director for the 3rd one. The first two were directed by James Wan. The 3rd one is directed by Michael Chaves, who also directs The Nun 2! But James Wan produced it and had a lot of input. I really like the cinematography in it but you can definitely pick up the tone difference between his and James'.
I hope you all will enjoy it as well!
You can watch all The Conjuring Movies in one go, all of the Annabelle's, and both of The Nun movies. They are all in their own chunks. They do not need to be watched chronologically with each other but they do all connect. It won't mess with your understanding of any of the movies. The most tied in would be The Nun 1 to The Conjuring 1. But they do a good job of showing the connection together so again, the order you watch them won't be an issue.
Annabelle Comes Home is my personal favorite! Timeline wise it comes after The Conjuring 1. But again, it does a good job connecting them both within the movie. So honestly, if someone just decided to watch it out of the blue they would completely understand it.
There is also The Curse of La Llorna (also directed by Michael Chaves) but I think it's a stand alone, though technically in the same universe.
Thanks for your great reactions! Can't wait for The Conjuring 3 and The Nun 1 & 2 reactions!

  • @leeann3920
    @leeann3920 8 месяцев назад +2

I don't think the order really matters. There are connections--it is "The Conjuring" universe--but I think I would stick with what you are doing now by keeping them separate: The Nun, Annabelle, The Conjuring. You'll find the tie-ins as you go. Fun, aren't they?

It’s not a momenta that they keep as souvenirs. They are items that the dead and evil people have embodied for dark purposes. They kept them so they couldn’t hurt anyone else.

The nun is terrifying in other movies but suck in her own. In her own movies, she’s just stands there and used other demons to do her work. I rather they just make a movie about the other demons

Great movie but unfortunately Ed and Lorraine were only there for a day. They showed up uninvited and didn’t do much. The Amityville has been debunked completely by the attorney of the people who lived there following the crimes. They came up with an idea to write a book about made up hauntings. But…good movie content anyway.

If I had to recommend to a friend what order they should watch The Conjuring and Annabelle movies, I would tell them to just watch them in order of release, bc they DO overlap, and you DO need to have some prior knowledge to get through the rest of the movies. Like for instance, a priest from the movie Annabelle, comes back in The Curse of La Llorona, and he talks about an incident he had with a doll that changed his beliefs, he's talking about the events of the movie Annabelle, where a young couple is attacked by Manson Family Members while the wife is pregnant, nearly loses the baby, and they decide to move to another city in SoCal to raise their baby, but since they are in possession of the Annabelle doll, all hell breaks loose pretty much from the first 5 minutes of the film. EVERY MOVIE IS EQUALLY AS IMPORTANT AS THE OTHERS IN THIS FRANCHISE, just do yourself a favor, do this the easy way and watch in order of release.

The Crooked Man should look more childlike, it's from a children's story and meant to connect with the children's fear. The point of these side characters like Annabelle, The Crooked Man, and The Nun, is to set them up for the Conjuring universe spin offs. Unfortunately, The Crooked Man was started and shelved in the last year... which is another reason it seem more out of place compared to the others. Ed and Lorraine gained their global notoriety after The Amityville Horror, which was referenced in the first 2 Conjuring movies. Would love for Amityville to be added to the Universe in the future, despite there already being 2 successful movies, with an emphasis from the Warren's perspective and involvement. For fun, you should check out some of the ghost hunter shows Conjuring 2 was based on. One was a 48 hour stay that was super creepy. 🙂
