In short: I came out as a woman in Late May of 2021 (I jokingly call my previous name my "Version 1.0"), and I've let comments about if I'm "even trying" to be perceived the way I'd like, get to me. I've even had at least one label *request* I sing in a feminine tone more often. Ironically, I don't mind singing the way I used to before in terms of technique or tone. I *liked* doing masculine tracks (like One More Chance, One For Me, etc) just as much as more feminine tracks (On Top Of The Silo, The Love That Never Was, etc). In fact, I've even kinda tried to come back to "center" with songs like Goodbye Japan or Path of Desire, where gender is less central to the expression. But I'm in a sticky situation- if I try to meet the demands for feminine vocals, folks seem to get upset that I don't sound the way I used to; but if I sing the way I used to, the comments can get even nastier, somehow. It feels like folks won't be satisfied no matter which voice(s) I use anymore, and that can hurt, especially after dealing with a bump on my vocal cords since… well, late 2021, which makes speaking and singing IN GENERAL more difficult. …it feels like I can't win either way. The instant I lean one way, fans of the other direction are upset. The instant I stay central, folks seem to assume it's one of the extremes, somehow. So I just… continue making music in general, and hope the most folks will be happy with it as possible. The next original I've finished is a feminine song (one my Twitch audience VERY specifically requested of me, and I'm happy to oblige in this case), but we'll see what the one after that is like.
