This song means a lot to me.
On the one hand, I've long been trying to find my way back to a more refined version of how I used to sound when working in Logic Pro, but I couldn't quite figure out how I sounded the way I did back then. After long last, I've found that it was orchestral elements- in this case, a string section, french horns, and bells- that made a world of difference. I'm finally able to capture the lush, full sound I once had with the more up-to-date production techniques I've learned in the last few years.
On the other hand, it's been a little while since I've written a more emotionally impactful tune. Meanwhile, in the last month it's been a struggle to step back from work and content creation to take better care of myself, and I felt the whispers of a version of myself I thought I left behind coming back to haunt me. This song was my reminder to myself that I've kept the best of myself with me, and I'm worth maintaining. The way I used to be is no longer here. I'm finally more fully and openly myself, and that will not change.
Please enjoy my last original release of 2022. And here's to a spectacular 2023.

I came to listen to some songs I loved nearly a decade ago from you today, and decided to see if you were still active. I learned in the time since I first heard your music we both ended up women, and I found this song. I don't really have words for how this song makes me emotional. The song is the words for a feeling I couldn't describe myself. Thank you for creating this, I love it.

Also, current vocals are even better for my liking, but objectively they never took a turn for the worse at all, if that ever leaves you an afterthought. I think you should keep going and whatever vocals you go with, they never make a song worse.

2 months listening to it, there's something about this song that makes me think a lot about my relationship, not necessarily related to lyrics. In a way it helped me act better for the simple fact that the music made me more radiant :D

Seems like the pinned comment has already said the first part of what I was about to say. Of course, I'm still going to say it.
I originally paused a playlist I was listening to while working when that song came on. I went to see the original video I knew it from before it was popular enough to be in a playlist, and it turned out the 'original' was not the original. So I went to see the original, and then went to see how the OG was doing and this video had in it exactly what I hadn't found in any of those or the comments under them.
Of course, nostalgia was an element. But sometimes we seek nostalgia not to feel the feeling, but to go over something. Take another look at where we are now. Sometimes we appreciate the memories but would actually rather not re-live them today. I do not feel complicated when it comes to the past and the present anymore, but I still like to re-check once in a while and think about what it all means and how things are.
The music of this, the lyrics and the view you gave us of how it came to be were so satisfyingly related to that process of growing and searching and shifting. I don't know much about you, but you've been impactful since a long time ago, so I imagine this shadow of yours has some cards to play when it comes to the game of who gets to be you.
I know for a fact that I'm going to listen to this a lot in the future. It's a pretty good song.
