Deep Purple covered this tune the same year in a (proto) prog/heavy way - à-la-Vanilla Fudge ...and they blew away Cream when opened for them in a couple of gigs, in 1968
If you read the back of their album (The Gun with Race With The Devil) they explain their kind of music. The call it 'Hard Rock'. It was the first time that a band used this name to express their style of music. So with 'The Gun' the HardRock music was born!
A wonderful surprise! I’ve been a fan since the first album came out in the 60’s and it’s great that there are live videos of them! A monster band truly deserving wider recognition!
These guys are amazing and painfully underrated. My father was a big fan of 3 Man Army and discovered them thay way. I swear at times he sounds like Jack Bruce and sounds excellent on "Im So Glad" and gives Eric a run. Those Marshalls sound just phenomenal... Just Glorious and cranked!
Heavy metal from a time when the term didn't even exist! Today's metalheads owe a debt of gratitude for bands like this laying down the foundation for their sound!

One of the most underrated Guitarist ever. Three Man Army. The Greame Edge Band's Paradise Ballroom and Kick Off Your Muddy Boots is some awesome stuff.
I listened to their first original record and they used a brass and violin sections. This disc, the design of which was created by Roger Dean (which was later illustrated with the covers of the group YES) is as essential and dazzling as it is unknown - To rediscover and taste without moderation, as soon as possible 🔥✨
THE GUN its first hard rock band in my life. Im born in 1973 and for me it is most great music for now. My mom leasing on vinyl this album with me in socialist country. Greatings from Poland :)
I knew about Gun back in the day. Bought the album with the demonic cover. I thought they were pretty darn good. But seeing this now, in 2022 I think they were even better than the album. They coulda been contenders :)
Thanks so much for sharing this great footage!!!! The light projection during the drum solo reminded a bit of the back cover photo on Monster Magnet’s “Tab” ep. The band was really heavy for that time frame too! Hopefully some Love Sculpture footage will turn up someday as well. Thanks again!
There was alot of heavy stuff pre Led Zep for sure but you cant deny that they were really the first to make it big with the “heavy” sound thus why some people think they were the ones who invented it. Its ok those people just dont even know what they dont know
@@Boxscot49 Yes, for sure among these post Hendrix/Cream bands Zeppelin were the first to become big. But there were other bands that are as heavy as their first two records like Gun, Andromeda, High Tide!
That's so incredible and at the same time so sad seeing a fantastic supergrup forgot in the rock history. They were originals in heavy rock prior to Deep Purple In Rock for instance... The music industry is so unfair...several talented groups underrated
Holey fucking moley where did this come from???? I had no idea this footage even existed! what a find. Damn. Mark Farrell - thanks man - you've made my day!
Ha! i was amazed it existed never thought I'd get to see my old man actually live on stage, yeah I've seen the tv studio footage, but never thought I'd see gig footage, enjoy!
They're almost unknown, such a shame. Their music was heavier than any other band's back then. Only Jimi had a similar Fuzz sound on guitar. They were heavily influenced by the Experience of course, but there are many differences within the two bands, both very ahead for their time
@@frankscassi4960 the outsideinside album was so loud half of it was recorded outside because they blew up the studio monitors, definitely more acid infused proto stuff, but mind bending and super God damn sick nonetheless

It was more of a British heavy Blues sound. Their weren't many bands i think that had a real heavy metal sound . Cream latter period of Yardbirds out of the ashes Zeppelin. Deep purple definitely. Warhorse Nicky Simper band Atomic Rooster Mountain ledlie West Blue Cheer over the top pre dawn metal . Again most bands i know leaving alot out they paved the way for what would become what we known in late 70s early 80's as British Heavy Metal..

Outstanding musicianship -- lame singing though 🙂 Even made my ears bleed quite a few times, Such a shAme..... Sorry if this comment pisses off someone. I'm just being ojective. At least, trying to.
Incredible Band this is an authentic direct and with almost no means to play, not like now that they only have that means and little creativity or make versions
Mark Farrell i loved the gun & all the other bands the gurvitz bros were in. your dad's picture on the back of "gunsight" is great, is your dad still with us ?
.His drumming career was extraordinary ,particularly in the Gun, but also the Bulldog Breed, with another fine drummer, Peter Dunton ,as well as Bernard Jinks, both of T2 fame. Then the Knack . He keeps cropping up in the classic power trio Albums. He is so much more than Race With the Devil
@0:00 Drives you Mad
@2:51 Take Off
@13:03 So Glad (Skip James, Cream version cover)
@18:49 Race with The Devil
I hate to bug you, but I'm So Glad is a Skip James song, although they make an attempt at emulating Cream.
@@Rich6Brew Appreciate that, not bugging me at all, no attempt at emulating Cream I'm sure, but Gun's take on the Cream version no doubt
