Dexter Holland (singer guitarist/songwriter) for the Offspring is an underrated rhythm player - he is the master of fast moving power chord riffs. Most people dismiss it because its “just power chords” but its pretty hard playing when they move around a lot like this song.
This was one of the first songs I learnt to play when I finally got my own guitar as a teenager, looking up tabs on the school internet in the 90s. That into really dug up some memories! :)
This song has been pretty well tabbed and as far as I am aware there are some pretty accurate tabs for it. The song is “simple” but it is challenging to play due to the speed. Especially the verses with the fast palm mutes - certainly achievable but one that you’ll have to work on.

Great lesson! More Offspring is always welcome: Come out and play, Amazed, Gone away, Original Prankster, the Noose, Hammerhead Even though I've already learned Kids ain't alright and Vultures, I would love to see your lesson, they are usually much more cohesive. Dirty Magic is the first thing I learned how to play.
Great job Justin i learned an AC/DC song from you. Just a comment on bands playing live stuff; some times they improvise. I think esp for complex stuff there are not many bands that play live that play it exactly like the recording. Its like when the magic happens and its a take that magic its tough to go back in that moment and recreate it. I'm of the belief that no one ever recreates that magic moment ever again.
Great lesson Justin. Could you please do one for Come Out and Play as well. The intro riff to that song is fantastic. Self Esteem would also be good. Thanks.
When I saw on Spotify, Justin is listening Pretty Fly and he put a comment on the old video, a week ago, I knew the new version is coming :))) by the way you should check that old video to see how far much his channel improved...technology-wise, teaching method-wise.....and dressing up - wise :)))
Are you listening in on me Justin? My fiancee was just telling me two days ago that this was the first CD she ever bought, and I was telling her that was crazy because this was the first song I used an internet video to learn. Your original video. Creeeepy. You and Google need to cut out the eavesdropping 😂
Sounds legit but... if you watch Dexter play the intro riff live, he plays the first B5 on the 7th fret of E. So he plays the first three chords on the low E, then next three on A.. he kind of slides up and down, with his eyes closed. Confirmed by watching several live versions of this song
Justin, I'd love a lesson on the Glen Hansard version of Justin Timberlake - Cry Me A River. Not sure they are different. I just like Glen Hansard's version better.

Yeah he injects awesome energy into his playing as well. It’s great fun.
