Your 2021 family Christmas photo is a real treasure. I remember car trips with my family to look at lights as being so much fun and always better than the hunt for a tree which often ended up with arguments about getting the right tree. Inevitably, the decorated tree was a triumph.
Actually, with that amount of molasses, I can understand the pepper being in it. They would compliment each other nicely. I think, in addition, a small amount of mace or half as much nutmeg would add another depth of warmth and deliciousness.

Pepper isn't that uncommon. Gives it a bit of a zing. And it's also cooked into it. Ever try Pfeffernusse cookies? The heating is just to dissolve the granulated sugar into the already pretty-saturated molasses. Otherwise, it's "sandy." You don't really need to boil it and risk further carmelizing or burning. I would let the hot ingredients cool to lukewarm or even room temp. Otherwise, you're exactly right-- "sticky, warm and hard to keep its form." It didn't quite keep a 1.5" height, right? You can always wrap the ball in plastic and refrigerate until cool, reshape, and resume. Working by hand creates less gluten than stirring as you had to do because of the heat. Less gluten means less tough and better crumb. (You might have cooked the flour a little too! Also, it's always a no-no if eggs are involved. They'll cook!) However, you may need to butter or flour your hands to avoid webbing your fingers with the soft, sticky dough! LOL (Same idea as sticky bread doughs.) Chilling helps. I would think a combo of the shapes would let folks choose their favorite cookie type-- moist & chewy or dry & crispy! Beautiful reminiscence of Rosa's first Christmas with you. What sort of pepper are in those, black peppercorn or chili peppers? I've seen chili peppers, mostly cayenne peppers, used in cinnamon and chocolate sweets so nothing is off limits I guess.

Check out their video from several years ago, in which a tiny Crow literally barges into the frame, from where he has been playing just off-camera, and the boys present him to us for the first time. It's deeply gorgeous.

I was schooled by an Ex that margarine was one molecule different than motor oil, REAL butter was natural. That’s the best thing I got outta that relationship.

The only way the did get past the carcinogenic attributes was to lower the amount tested with to about a third of what we consume in a cup of tea. Not joking.
