  • What is vasculitis? Vasculitis is an inflammation of the blood vessels that typically has some immune system-related cause. This video covers the pathophysiology of vasculitis in general, as well as more specific conditions like giant cell arteritis, Takayasu arteritis, Kawasaki disease, polyarteritis nodosa, Buerger disease, granulomatosis with polyangiitis, microscopic polyangiitis, and Churg-Strauss syndrome, as well as the different signs and symptoms between them.

My son has HSP right now, he’s 6 yrs old and I don’t know how soon all the purpura will stop and dissapear. It was really scary seeing him break out into those red purple marks also he had an allergic reaction to amoxicillin that was prescribed for Strep. It’s only been about 5 days but the spots are still there and don’t seem to fade away fast enough

Sounds like what happened to my son at about 14 months, it was huge hive when we took him to the ER, the Dr brought everyone in the ER to look at him. They were fascinated. The next morning it looked like he had been beaten with a baseball bat, very strange. I hope your son is feeling better. My son is 31 now. He's had several autoimmune disorders in his life.

@@KidCity1985I was just diagnosed with vasculitis. I also have hypothyroidism, sjogrens, and vitiligo. All autoimmune. If I take prednisone, I will likely get type 1 diabetes. I'm going the Ayurvedic route to suppress my immune system. Ksm-66 ashwagandha and licorice root that suppresses the T and B cells. Hoping to avoid possible chemo toxic drugs for it.

@Medscape , or anyone that can clarify this. At 3:20 you mention claudication in the jaw when chewing. I thought Claudication was pain during the gait cycle in lower extremity due to reduced blood flow? Can this term also be used for any kind of active muscular pain that has an ischaemic cause then?

Why can't my doctors be this smart? I diagnosed myself 2 years ago and my doctors blew me off. I demanded the ANA and ANCA test and was told no, that I don't have vasculitis. My lower leg veins kept bulging bad. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism by a new doctor, then Sjogren's. Still no ANA or ANCA test. I was recently sent to the ER due to severe kidney issues that I had for 2 years. After a ct scan and bloods, Vasculitis was diagnosed. Pisses me off that IGNORANT and ARROGANT so called highly educated doctors are too stupid to listen to patients. The way I understand Vasculitis is it is a terminal disease. 10 years or less life expectancy.

Was called a fake to my face for 4 yrs, researched myself and made an appointment to get the lab work I needed and ended up with Mcduffie syndrome diagnosis plus 4 other autoimmune diseases. Everyone just wanted to use me as a lab rat and still wouldn't listen to me. I take their meds but stopped going to be seen and take care of myself. There is so much I have figured out or have well founded thoughts on but they don't care. I got real bad for a while but after figuring a lot of stuff out I've been doing better on my own for 14 yrs (longer then they said I would). Eat organic as much as you can and I hope the best for you.
