Small unknown tipp for photographers, Ulanzi has the F38 quick release system that is great, and almost no body knows they have "F38 PD" baseplate PD = Peak design. A special F38 Baseplate that is compatible with the peak design capture clip. Many photographers have the peak design clip, so you dont need to buy a new F38 capture clip when you use the special base plate.

Yes but you have to rotate the F38 PD plate 90 degrees to use it. Better than nothing but not ideal. You can’t clip into most F38 clips when using the 38-PD plate and then clip into the PD back back clip with unscrewing the baseplate and rotating it 90 degrees. It’s weird.

I'm considering the stand alone ball head to install on my Peak design tripod. It looks promising, only thing missing is dual panning. But I might not need that.

They have an f22 to nato adapter, it’s pretty good.
I like the Falcam system for smaller rigs and monitors/light accessories like mics. The v mount plate I added a piece of gaff tape and it’s nice and snug on my f38.
It’s not a perfect system, and I use arri mounting or Arca Swiss for heavier rigs

I have similar gripes. Great video. One other problem I had was that those little f22 quick attachment points would keep coming loos and i almost broke some expensive gear because of it. Couldn't figure out how to get them to stay on without slowly loosening over time. You'd think the arri pins would have helped, but they didn't...

@Sustainavore I've noticed that recently too when I've been using the F22 magic arm to attach my wireless receiver to my Directors monitor and sometimes if I try to move it, it just starts turning, not ideal

@@itmeremy Not ideal at all! Unnacceptable, really. That and there's just enough play in all of their line that it's annoying. It just doesn't feel as tight as it should. I think I am going to switch to SmallRig's Hawklock. I originally was using theirs, but they had the drop in system which wasn't compatible with other gear like you mentioned. Did you wind up getting ahold of that system to test?

@Sustainavore fair enough. And yes I have the new Hawklock FX30/FX3 cage. I made a whole video about it not that long after this one if you're interested. ruclips.net/video/jd3S-YRDwqM/видео.html
Unfortunately I still don't have any Hawklock accessories so I can't actually test the system properly, but at least I can use my NATO and Arca stuff

@ awesome. I'll check it out! Definitely make one when you get the accessories 🙏.
I just got a lumix s9, and smallrig's case for it is trash. Really bummed about that. Still will probably get the hawklock stuff form my s5iix and bmcc6k though. Supposing it doesn't have the fit and finish issues the ulanzi has...

@Sustainavore fair enough, I feel like the smaller a camera is, the harder it would be to make good cages for it

Weird they didn’t go for Nato rail, as that's already standard. IMO all camera gear should use the standard mounts, whether it's head mount or mic mounts or handle mounts.
I'm it's absurd. they aren't even limited by patents as it's a standard. Seems like Small rig is the right choice.

I recently got a Sirui baseplate with an arca swiss rail for attaching a follow focus to my camera. Was hoping I would be able to mount my camera with f38 plate directly on it, but no go as well. It also doesn't slide in completely.
Would hope that they'd update the f38 plate someday so that it could be more compatible with the arca swiss. I have a bunch of f38 base mounts on a bunch of tripods and my gimbal, which makes everything so easy to change up, except for when it isn't. hahaha

@Espressomo yeah that sounds about right. I do find it a little annoying when companies try to do something new but it requires you to be absolutely invested in their ecosystem.
I don't see them changing f38 to be more compatible with arca Swiss because that would probably make it less compatible with older f38 mounts

I have the A7iv v2 cage and I totally don't have these problems. cage is all around the camera so no extra plate for the card side of the camera. and I knew that it was a system that would only allow falcam and ulanzi gear. so I've only ever bought that gear from those brands.

    I hope @smallrig makes a hawklock for the a6700

It looks cool but when I was looking for a cage for my A7iv it was more expensive and saw those flaws!!! I love the way it looks but went with small rig and don´t regret it.

Yeah, it’s not a problem with their system.

Man, before you get it you should know the system is initiated by Falcam, it's their features, not their problem. If you know it then you shouldn't use it at the very beginning. Sorry to hear that the cage pricked your hand, but I don't understand why this would happen since the edge of the cage is blunt, and why don't you hold the cage with the hand grip?

    • @itmeremy
      @itmeremy  3 месяца назад +1

@janeaustine1078 yes, that's totally fair. And I did didn't purchase this cage so it's not an issue of buying it without knowing.
It's not that it pricked my hand, it's that there is an F38 mount right on the grip which will always be in the way, it's not particularly sharp, but it's not comfortable.
I think the best solution to that would be to have a side handle on both sides but then you lose the ability to reach any buttons without moving your hand
