- Our second day in Chennai and nearly 2 months on the road which means my hair is in need of some TLC! I was so apprehensive to let anyone cut my hair let alone a barber....however the shop being nearly 100 years old passed down through generations and the fact my hair is pretty easy to cut, meant that it was only right I have a trim! Not only did I have a haircut for 300 Rupees.....I also had a $4 MASSAGE...A HEAD MASSAGE....one of the most intense and unique experiences ever.

This is the place I visited each weekend for a shave, haircut and massage,
This place is at Ponday Bazaar in T.nagar where I spent 20 years of my life
I used to pay Rs 50 for a shave, Rs 100 for Hair and Rs 75 for an oil massage, the owners and the staff are simply incredible people, they are friendly, helpful and courteous,
The current owner used to house visit to take care of my father's grooming needs when he was unwell.
Today, watching this salon being in the spotlight is really a moment of pride for me and many like me with whom this memory will resonate.

I'm really fascinated by the positivity and street smartness of you two guys. You seem to have no problem communicating with the locals and understanding what they mean even if they speak broken English and you are unlike some confused foreigners who seem to think that all of India speaks Hindi. The fact that you were surprised that a shop in Chennai is named after Kerala indicates that you do know that it is a different state. Very impressed.😊

I've been watching your videos and really fascinated you finally visited Chennai, really good work on your tamil, people in Chennai don't speak Hindi, English is better understood compared to Hindi. You should certainly visit Mahabalipuram, Kapleshwar temple both for it's architecture, it's got a lot of history. In terms of food, chennai has so much local food (You have Chettinad food: Really spicy, the thali that you get in chennai is very special as well). If you have a chance go to Munnar as well, it's 589 km from Chennai and very very scenic!

Amazing to watch the massage, I could feel the pressure leave MY head, lol! Walking around with an oily head, not so much, haha! Though it is sooo good for the hair and scalp/hail oil glands, cooling for the body.
It is pretty reasonable price - 300 for hair cut and 400 for massage, 1100 is just about right. Even a rundown barber shop in Tier-I city in India charges you 150. The place is clean, has polite staff and told the price upfront.
It was a little bit more than we were told but fab prices we thought!
@@dabbleandtravelThey probably charged you more but not twice the local price surely, maybe 20 % more for a place like that. Also, some saloons have prices already mentioned on a board so you are not at risk getting scammed at such saloons.
I used to be a regular at Kerala Dressers until 2018. Glad they still have the same people working!

hey they are legit one of the oldest barbers in chennai, that man in blue is the current generation running it, he seems to be legend in the barbering circles, there is a youtube video about this shop!

Minimum price for cheap cut and blow in UK is 20£, so you guys got a great deal , dam cheap . I pay my barbers 1500 rs every time I get a hair cut in Mysore. He dose it the same way with a chai added in.
