  • Your front hand position holding your bow will either enhance or destroy your archery consistency and accuracy. Getting your grip hand into proper position, and maintaining that proper position shot after shot, will be one of the biggest determining factors to how well you shoot archery. In this School of Nock video, John Dudley of Nock On Archery will teach you what the proper hand position is and how to get your hand into that position consistently every time you grip your bow.

Thinking about getting a silverback plus or a backstrap release as I am having trouble shooting my wrist release properly with back tension. Would you say 5 inch groups at 60 yards are pretty good??? Great explanation John!! Back in 1991 in the Ragsdale era I had multiple PSE Mach 6s killer bows for there time!! Immediately took the grips off and gripped just the riser for that torque reason, that’s when they had big fat wood grips!! Funny how the industry migrated to thin grips over the years now!! We new it 30 years ago!! I still have 2 Mach 6 bows in the museum!! Lol. Love your work!!

Thanks for this. I recently noticed two things that are affecting my accuracy
    1) I have left & right torque when in full draw. I noticed my pin quivering L & R when letting the pin float. I will try the chalk drill to make sure my front hand position is ok. But I wonder if I'm not pulling my bow straight back but rather at an angle backward and inducing torque that way. I'm not sure if that's another common mistake?
    2) My bow likes to "rock back" when I fire, with the top of the bow leaning back at me. This makes me shoot a little high. My accuracy got better when I started using two fingers on my front hand to apply pressure to the front of the riser to keep the bow level. Obviously this is poor technique and not a good solution but it did help illustrate that this was a problem. I have a stubby short stabilizer that has weight distributed evenly throughout. I'm thinking of trying a longer stabilizer with more weight at the end to see if this keeps the bow more level
