Great teacher. Calm and consistent. Its one thing to be great at something but its another thing to be great at teaching. I've learnt more from a few of Johns videos than I did from a private lesson at my local shop. Dude was high strung and talked way to much. John gives you a feeling of calm confidence and he doesn't overload you with too much information.
Man I was shooting this evening doing exactly everything you talked about here! Im much more consistent now! I appreciate the help I needed it but didn't know I did Thanks!
Nock * On that's some of the best teaching I have seen. Thanks for sharing this information. I am excited to try this out and see if I can get better. Thanks again.
I needed this before the Oklahoma Total Archery Challenge yesterday. It was my first tac event ever. It was a dream come true to meet you in person. :) thanks for all you and the nock on nation do for guys like me and so many others.
@@nockonarchery it truly was man. I waited 3yrs to go to a tac event close to Joplin and then listened to your podcast and found out you were going and I was like let’s go. Thanks again :)
I purchased a new compound today after shooting traditional for the past 16 years. It’s exciting to be back! This is the perfect video to get me going again. Thanks for everything you do for the archery community. Garrett
Great explanation John!! Back in 1991 in the Ragsdale era I had multiple PSE Mach 6s killer bows for there time!! Immediately took the grips off and gripped just the riser for that torque reason, that’s when they had big fat wood grips!! Funny how the industry migrated to thin grips over the years now!! We new it 30 years ago!! I still have 2 Mach 6 bows in the museum!! Lol. Love your work!!
That is awesome, Scott. You have seen a lot of change through the years and yes, you were on to something critical even way back when! Thanks for sharing.
I shoot left=handed and I have a constant problem of my arrows drifting to the right. As soon as I heard you explain how the thumb applies torque I realized I've been messing up BIG TIME. Thanks a lot!!!
Great content and teaching, ive been getting a consistent high tear no matter what i try 3 different rests, lowered nocking point, raied rest, slowing down top cam, checked Fletching contact, bare shaft still high tear, im starting to think my grip is the issue maybe im putting to much pressure at the top of my grip forcing the tip of my arrow down giving me a consistent high tear 🤷♂️
Glad to hear Braxton! I started as a bowhunter and started shooting target archery to become a better bowhunter. That was and is always the goal to be the most accurate and proficient bowhunter I can be. Good luck and thanks for the support!
Great information & easily explained video (s). Helped this DIY senior bow hunter so many times the past couple years. Just love these back2basics vids, good refresher too.
Nock it on, Nock.it off, Proper, Thorough, super helpful John Dudley at it again! Thank you for continuing to give back to the sport and the archery community!
Great video my man. Watching your tutorials has raised my scores at 3D a tremendous amount :) I was trigger punching and making various 'small' mistakes....not anymore :) I've only been shooting compound for a month or so and your videos have been very useful. Thinking about getting a silverback plus or a backstrap release as I am having trouble shooting my wrist release properly with back tension. Would you say 5 inch groups at 60 yards are pretty good??? I don't have much to compare myself to!
So glad to hear! A true back tension release like the Silverback and Back Strap are such powerful tools in archery. It sounds like you have great skills. Keep it up!
🤙🏽Excellent video-You could carry this right into something about a wrist strap so that after/during release we don’t try or do try to grip the bow at release
Love the videos you have teach me so much about Archery. Can’t wait to get my new levitate. Thanks John for all you do. New grips going to be awesome tool too !!!
Mann this is dead on to the way i shoot now. The thumb technique ima have to pay attention to on my next out. Just doing it standing here you can feel the muscle pulling. That is torque.
Thanks for this. I recently noticed two things that are affecting my accuracy 1) I have left & right torque when in full draw. I noticed my pin quivering L & R when letting the pin float. I will try the chalk drill to make sure my front hand position is ok. But I wonder if I'm not pulling my bow straight back but rather at an angle backward and inducing torque that way. I'm not sure if that's another common mistake? 2) My bow likes to "rock back" when I fire, with the top of the bow leaning back at me. This makes me shoot a little high. My accuracy got better when I started using two fingers on my front hand to apply pressure to the front of the riser to keep the bow level. Obviously this is poor technique and not a good solution but it did help illustrate that this was a problem. I have a stubby short stabilizer that has weight distributed evenly throughout. I'm thinking of trying a longer stabilizer with more weight at the end to see if this keeps the bow more level
I have a PSE, evolve 28, but there are no screw holes to attach a grip. I’m not sure what the problem is I put my boat in the position. Where are you say, I don’t have a tight grip I don’t really have a grip at all. For some reason I always get a right tear paper tuning.
I'm thinking about replacing the stock grip on my new PSE Drive to with the Nock On Ultraview grip. Will this affect my draw length? Thanks. Great video, by the way!
Good stuff Dud! I consider the grip my launching pad. As with a rocket launch - positioning of that pad is uber critical for the infinite path of the rocket or the rocket itself can be lost for eternity! >>>---> In retrospect: If I have an inconsistent grip when shooting my bow (especially long ranges such as TAC) my rocket also can be lost for eternity!!! In the weeds… in the rocks… in a tree… in… well you get my point!😂🤪😢 Nock On Dude!🤘🏽
It is a new grip design I worked on for PSE model bows. It's something I worked on for a year refining and working to get the ultimate grip that allows your hand to be in the same spot every time and a design to minimize torque. If you have a PSE bow you should check it out. People are loving it. They are available in the Nock On store. Good luck!
@@nockonarchery thanks, I gotta say that’s pretty slick. I’m not running a pse right now but i basically made something similar on my Mathews with some sugru. Love that design though man.. super innovative

Thanks, Luke! Good luck with your shooting. The Nock On Team is really grateful for your support.

Thanks for the kind words, Brian. Grateful you are part of the Nock On Nation!
I am such a fan of this guy. What a great teacher. My archery skill has improved immensely this year solely on watching your videos. Thank you John.
My Father in law just gave me his 2016 PSE Supra. This is my first time shooting a bow and I’m enjoying it. Your videos help a ton! Mahalo 🤙🏽
Chalk line helped a lot I was seating the grip directly on it while wondering why my windage needed to be all the way to the left lol.
Man this is such fantastic teaching, again thank you for everything you do!
You are welcome. Thank you Clayton!
I thought I was holding It correctly until I saw you showing how to raise it and I think I've been adjusting it after drawing 😅 cheers for this!
