I vividly remember my 182 checkout way back in the early 80’s and still remember the N# that was 21290. I was fresh off my private and probably had 50 hours in 152’s and maybe 3 in a 172. The check out in a 172 was awe inspiring with the extra HP and the heavier feeling on the yoke. The 182 blew my mind! It would throw your head back on take off with what felt like tugging on the wheel and the added prop control. However, all Cessnas are about the same on Vspeeds and you settle into a higher powered one quickly. Later on I owned several higher performance planes but will never forget when I was asked by a local photographer to take him up in a rental for a photography gig. He was licensed and owned a Cherokee but he needed to rent a high wing Cessna for his gig and wasn’t set up with the local FBO to rent a 152. I was set up but hadn’t flown a 152 in years. I will never forget how underwhelmed I was with the 152 and felt like I was flying a kiddy car. An old CFI once described a Cessna as a kite with a motor on it. When you fly planes, you always want more HP and faster, or at least that’s been my experience. Cessnas are hard to beat and if I was in the market, I’d take a hard look at a strut 210.
"One thousand one one thousand two one thousand shoot me in the foot! And stop counting it outloud, get a feel for it!" the instructor is thinking :) Nice video though, thanks for sharing, its a lot to remeber to do in high performance airplane. Good job.
timothy anderson in a high performance airplane( this applies to naturally aspirated airplanes) you always want the rpm higher than the manifold pressure 22in 2200 rpm. So if you are from cruise to climb, you want to bring the prop up to 2400 and use 24 inches of manifold. It is usually dependent on the airplane but the best bit of advice is to follow the poh
To help you remeber when throttle first and when rpm first, just remeber this: "Prop on top". Meaning rpm higher than manifold pressure, keep in mind that rpm is not always higher (like in cruise on some airplanes, POH is your friend) but "Prop on Top" gives you the right action sequence when you are making any change to power settings.
Love the video, I fly the same aircraft and yes she will let you know how responsive it is ! Looks nice and clean on the inside. Unfortunately, I smoke when I fly, so people complain it's a " smoking airline.... " but they never complain when I take them up for free ! Started with the Cessna 172 while learning, but I like the 182 better. Does yours have the retractable gear ?

Very nice video Captain.
Dwain Marcus Thanks for watching Dwain!
Great vid!
Lee Bushong Thank you!
What is your mixture? Why do you do props forward at downwind?
The above 182 comments are turned off. That’s frustrating. There would have been stupid comments but we might have learnt by the other comments.
how about talking about prop and throttle control use and difference vs just a fixed piched. throttle first, rpm first???? talk about that

Love the 182, great jack of most trades, but not sure I've ever heard it called responsive or a sports car before. 🤔
@@russellhernandez1875 that’s a load of crap. Try again. “Oversquare” is a myth perpetuated by stupid advice like this
@@Steve_with_coffee when I first flew the 182 I compared it to a pickup truck. It’s a great airplane !

Rigging? Is this a ship or an airplane? And this student is WAS too confident.
Your” instructor” didn’t even give the carb heat time to work before pulling the power.
Cruise checklist 😂
Great video, but the student needs to be listening more than talking. Jeez!
