  • Join me on a captivating walking tour into the heart of Monemvasia Byzantine castle-state, rich with a 15th-century legacy.
As we approach the imposing castle gate, you can already sense the rich history that lies beyond. Monemvasia, perched on a rocky outcrop, has witnessed centuries of stories, from Byzantine splendor to Venetian dominance. The cobblestone streets wind through narrow alleyways, surrounded by well-preserved stone buildings that echo the stories of the Byzantine, Venetian, and Ottoman eras.
With the fitting title "Gibraltar of the East," it beckons as a captivating year-round destination, a haven in the heart of Greece.

I remember the first time my wife and I came to this beautiful place in early April 2000 to speak with the priest to plan our wedding that coming August. We've been going back ever since.

The famous novel of John Fowles " The Magus " takes place in Monemvasia.
I believe there was a leper colony in the past.
Missolonghi, where Lord Byron died, is not far.
