Great to see more from you Ryan! I see Crete as one of the most blessed places on earth: almost year-round sunshine, no deadly animals, abundant fresh water supply from many springs, rich soil for the tastiest produce and more history than anywhere I can think of...that's not even counting the diversity of landscapes + beaches!!!
ive visited Crete twice. 1970 and 71. basically Iraklion and Knossos and points east. I can't believe the towns and settings you've shown. All this must have happened since the 70s. quite a spectacular place indeed.
I love the island of Crete. It is beautiful, the food is amazing, and the people are wonderful. One place you didn't mention that I really enjoyed was the Samaria Gorge. Yes, you have to be in relatively good health as it is a 10 mile hike, but it is well worth the effort. The trail starts high above the gorge with a 6KM downhill hike to reach the bottom of the gorge, some 5000 feet below. Then it is a meandering 10KMs through amazing scenery, soaring cliff faces, cold spring creeks, a tiny abandoned ghost town, and ends at the black sand beach of the tiny town of Agia Roumeli.
I really love your videos, thank you for them. The production is really impressive. I planned a road trip to Norway based on your video where you mentioned lots of great places to visit there, it was the best holiday I’ve ever had.
@@RyanShirley Walking around Lovatnet lake, taking the cable car to an unbelievable restaurant in Loen at the top of the mountains, and just stopping off when we were driving, to marvel at the beauty of the place, and feeling so relaxed and at one with the world!
I'm here as I travel to Crete in 2 days, first time going and I cannot wait... Finding your video here today feels like destiny. I'll be sure to make this my bucket list while there. Thanks Ryan! 🙌
I'm always so impressed by your videos Ryan. Your top picks are always 100% sincere and personal, never influenced solely by a place's hype or popularity. I really respect that and am kicking myself for not subscribing sooner. Stay awesome brother and keep up the stellar work!
@@RyanShirley My man, I don't even know where to begin! I'm passionate about travel, and my expertise is on islands and coastal towns, especially those of the Mediterranean and Caribbean. Nevertheless, immediately off the top of my head, one place I think would suit your adventurous spirit spectacularly is the French island of Réunion in the Indian Ocean. It gets the Jurassic Park award for being like the Himalayas but crazily it's in the tropics. Likely the most impressive mountains on any island I've ever seen in the world, kinda like Kauai's more exotic older brother...yet good luck trying to find much high-quality video on it, at least in English. Not many people in the West go here (mostly French tourism) but damn, you could do some damage here with your lovely drone-centric style. Forget its mediocre beaches, go inland! There is jaw-dropping footage at every turn with such geological diversity. It's hard to find quality sharp footage on RUclips, but doing a quick search I found this one video that at least gives you a small taste of its many diverse regions: ruclips.net/video/ITSr0tdyHc0/видео.html. If this island doesn't speak to you, then next in my head is not too far from Reunion: the Dragon Blood Tree Forest of Sokotra, Yemen! or.. or... (head explodes) haha. There are just too many cool places to list! Dont get me started haha.
Crete is really big for an Aegean island and has so many great beaches and places to see. Being into archeology and ancient civilizations, i've visited the Minoan Palace of Knossos (partly reconstructed), and also the Herakiion archeological Museum. There's also Roman ruins at Gortyna. The town of Rethymnon is interesting for its Old Town with its cobblestone streets. Samaria Gorge National Park is stunning. As usual a great video.
Thanks John! That’s awesome you visited the Minoan Palace! I wish I would have went there and Samaria gorge! Hope your having a great summer so far, always love reading your comments.
What a fantastic travel guide to Crete! The island is truly stunning, and your video beautifully captures its beauty and history. From the crystal-clear waters of Elafonissi beach to the fascinating fortress island of Spinalonga, Crete has so much to offer. My favorite place in Crete has to be Elafonissi beach - it’s simply breathtaking. Thanks for sharing this amazing guide Ryan! Such an awesome video! Cheers, Simon - Tales From Abroad
