    after just having returned from Greece, your video is very informative. The best thing i learnt in Greece, is 2 things. 1. Its ok to stop on a roundabout to get a coffee, as long as you leave your hazard lights on and 2. The speed limit is 30kms over the posted limit, even if its 130kms on the freeways, if you do 130, you get tooted and lights flashed at you.

    In the last two years I have driven quite a bit in Crete. Once you are used to it, all is good. I’m pretty sure I have been on the roads in your video. The roads through the mountains, with all of the turns, are great fun to drive, constantly changing gears.
    But I would agree with your tips. The shoulders of the main roads are treated as lanes, and stop signs are just suggestions.
    You do have to drive forcefully or you will never get anywhere. Most important of all, is to remain alert at all times, and keep your head on a swivel.
    I do get the impression that Europeans are generally more skilled behind the wheel than us in North America, simply because they are driving on tight winding roads and do so with manual transmissions. But they are aggressive.
    But as I said earlier, once you get used to it, all is good.
    Oh, in addition, do not stay in the passing lane like many of us do in North America. People will get really angry with you. And learn how to use your signals in a roundabout.

      Yeah, drive cautiously aggressive. I think how aggressive they are depends on which country in Europe you are in. I haven't found them too aggressive in England, Sweden or Germany, but the Mediterranean countries it is very true.

      It really does depend on where your driving in the UK. I find many drives there to be remarkable, but the tight roads in Wales and Devon can scare you right off of driving there.

    Some good advice....don't hire a small underpowered car if you're planning to cross the island tru the mountains because you'll be gear shifting constantly.... I'm telling you out of experience 😁 this year I'll hire a more powerful car with automatic gearbox, my car is a stick shift but on holiday I'll be hiring a automatic from now on .. question of enjoying the scenery more instead of concentrating on keeping the right gear al the time 😂

    • @nerdgasmicadventures8700
      @nerdgasmicadventures8700  2 года назад

      Good advice. I usually like to get an automatic myself. You definitely want to think about the scenery more than you want to think about shifting. Are you from Crete, or have you visited there regularly?

      @@nerdgasmicadventures8700 well Brussels, Antwerp or Bruges, Bruges is a very old city ....it's a favorite for a lot of international tourists just Google it you won't be disappointed from a visit to Bruges and it's about 10 miles from were I'm at ... i live at the belgian coast ostend, you'll probably stay in Brussels as it's the capital and that's were the national airport is but Belgium has a pretty good train connection, Brussels-Bruges takes about one hour and if you visit the coast i can recommend ostend it's the largest coastal city in Belgium but to American standards it's pretty small 😁 and don't worry about the language, in Belgium most of us speak and understand pretty good English

    The only road rules about driving in Greece on the mainland are, there are no road rules. I found driving in Crete very civilized compared to mainland Greece. Maybe it could be they haven't evolved from riding donkeys every where in mainland Greece.

    No ethics on Crete roads. If you are waiting to make a right turn, they will go around you on the left and turn ahead of you. Stop signs are "stoptional". Every pedestrian, motor scooter and parked car will bolt into the street in front of your car like you aren't even there. Not to mention the goats. I had to hit the sh*thooks for one as I came around a hairpin turn. Head on a swivel at ALL times! 😂
