Good video. We chose to drive and arrive at the beach early. The road is bumpy and it's slow but manageable. Awesome video, but is there enough time to climb to the Balos viewpoint if you arrive by boat? Could you maybe estimate how long it takes to walk from where the boat stops to the viewpoint? Thank you!
Thank you! You can walk up there but means you won't have a lot of time to chill on the beach. I would say that to walk up, take pictures and come back to the beach, 1 hour is enough, And then there is over an hour left for swimming.
We took the Petalida boat cruise from Falasarna instead of Kissamos. I highly recommend it to people who don't like the crowds. We were 16 on a boat with plenty of room and no loud music. Same price.
8k of dusty track/road, then one hell of a long walk from the car park, not for the faint hearted, if your late, you could be literally parked at least one mile from the car park on the road, be warned the walk is steep and very long. if you want to go 100% go by boat.
We went by boat a vew weeks ago. There was to much wind to get ashore. It was a big boat 30 euros pp. To far to swim to the beach an waves. Those people knew thet tjis would happen and didnt tell us. Fucking around with a small boat and then we were aloud to swim. I am still mad about this. Rented a car to to the harbor for the boat. So wast of money.
Looks absolutely amazing, but they'll never tell you about very unpleasant wind almost every day, followed by mountain sized waves. A visit should be very carefully planned (and I really mean it!), or avoid the trip there!!! A boat trip is total horror. Most of tourists are completely inexperienced, so, expect collective vomiting around because of the waves. Even worse, people get hurt often, due to falling on the deck and between benches. Don't even think to take kids w/y. Good luck, specially after the "adventure", 'cause you'll probably spend 3 days in the bed, banged up & vomiting. Or choose car instead!
Sorry to hear you had such a terrible experience. Yes it happens to be windy but not that often. The boat is crowded indeed but that much vomiting is not very common. Peak season in general is not a good time to visit. Too hot and a lot of people by boat and car.
Exactly what you need to know! Without getting bored while getting to know it. Very well done.

is there something more "private" ?
the driving looks pretty scary to be honest.
Driving really is not that bad. Hundreds of people drive there every day and i am not aware of any accident the last years. But if you want to skip it, check the timetable of the ships leaving from Kasteli port. To be honest i am not familiar with private tours.
What about going by bike?
By bike is cool. But not in peak season. Unless you to very early in the morning, later in the day the road will be full of cars and dust.
Hello - we are due to visit Crete in Sept, as much as the road looks fun and I hate being restricted by time, we have a 3 year old and I’ll be 7 months pregnant, so would you recommend getting the boat?
Yes. in September it's still hot and with the child and being 7 months pregnant, the walk back to the parking will be tough.
Helpful video regards
thank you Tomasz!
I can’t believe I’ve never been to Gramvousa!!!
Cant belive it either😱
Big mistake. maybe in May. :D
Do car rental allow to drive to balos lagoon area?
As far as i know insurance will not cover you in case of accident.
Super video.
Thank you!
Μπορεί κανείς να παει από το χωριό του Κισσάμου στον Μπαλο με τα πόδια;
Do both options!!
That's what I suggest if people have time.
I would say that to walk up, take pictures and come back to the beach, 1 hour is enough, And then there is over an hour left for swimming.
some agencies allow driving to Balos with insurance....
I think only 4x4.
@@THATGREEKGUY_ only found thebestcars they have a gravel insurance add on for some SUVs.
@@earthcomedy yup. SUVs. The small cars don't have any insurance for Balos. They actually discourage drivers from going.
We took the Petalida boat cruise from Falasarna instead of Kissamos. I highly recommend it to people who don't like the crowds. We were 16 on a boat with plenty of room and no loud music. Same price.
Sounds like an excellent option!
😍😍
8k of dusty track/road, then one hell of a long walk from the car park, not for the faint hearted, if your late, you could be literally parked at least one mile from the car park on the road, be warned the walk is steep and very long. if you want to go 100% go by boat.
🙏🏼👍🏼👏
We went by boat a vew weeks ago. There was to much wind to get ashore. It was a big boat 30 euros pp. To far to swim to the beach an waves. Those people knew thet tjis would happen and didnt tell us. Fucking around with a small boat and then we were aloud to swim. I am still mad about this. Rented a car to to the harbor for the boat. So wast of money.
Unfotunately sometimes either because of windy weather or crowds in high season, the experience is not that good.
Cars all over Balos: how sad!
The problem for the boat option IS mutch poeple
Yes they get crowded during peak season.
