- Bonnie Raitt & John Prine perform "Angel From Montgomery" live at the Farm Aid concert in Austin, Texas on July 4, 1986. Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers. I was just a kid at this show... saw dozens of the greatest musical artists of all time in 20 hours. I was hot and sunburned and drunk and tired. It was an amazing day. Now..38 years later, I recognize that this was the performance of the day.
Never gets old - this was so real and so poignant.
It still echos in my head almost 50 years later......
RIP John
Keep on Kickin', Bonnie
I'm so happy that I got to walk on this earth at the same time that John prine did!
This version of this amazing song does things to me that are both physically and emotionally so bloody profound I have no words to describe it.
so true. best one.
Rest in peace John Prine. You sir...are a lyrical genius. You will be sorely missed.
Heaven just gained a new angel.
Even with terrible acoustics, this song is so outstanding, it will always be one of the most beautiful ever written.
They were both hilarious here. What a fun performance.
Rest In Peace, John...
THANK GOD FOR FILM AND ALL THE PEOPLE THAT JUS. GAVE ME THIS!
Thank you, Kris!
This just makes me smile. They look like they’re having a blast. I love this song too and I think, although not perfect, it sounds even better live. I wish I was born 20 years earlier and I was at this event!
Hey...I am from Australia so we are so "Down Under" but I am getting old and perhaps 'senile' Was that Chris Kristofferson who came in the help John? As I said apparently a year ago how amazing this song is(written by John ) but OMG...Bonnie 's voice is something to die for. It gets me every time. I don't check You Tube message much but I would LOVE to know if it was Chris before I drift off into the world of eternal darkness. THANK YOU and sorry if this question is lame. Good night. xox Darren
Decades of Musical Magic...Musical legends in MY book. 👍💓 Love from W. Pa
RIP John Prine!!!..your music lives on😓
Prine and Kris are so ripped up on bingers...this is amazing. With probably the best female vocalist of all time.
Kris at least sang with clarity.
Also - damn, look at his arms!!
One of the greats!! R.I.P. John Prine
a lot of talent on that stage!
God bless John Prine and Bonnie Rait, always a class act!
Windy day, but they carried on. That's the way to go...
Bonnie perfomed the song in key of E. John always did id in G. So it made it more challenging when feeling good from partying
Love Bonnie Raitt her album nick of time was great
this video is therapeutic
In my Raiit playlist with his original and her cover. Thanks a lot for the upload!
Kris Kristofferson kinda jumps in on this, but he was actually the one who brought John Prine into the spotlight way back when...
God bless both of them.. and the so called 'haters', cause you ain't.
'
Please understand this. Remember this. THOSE AREN'T REAL RUclips VISITORS, THEY ARE RUSSIAN BOTS, HERE TO SOW MISERY, THAT'S ALL.
I shed a little tear every time I hear that.
John begins the next verse early (after Kristofferson exits) and looks at Bonnie as if he's sorry. She nods as if " yes, go ahead ".
Uhmmmm, yeah, it's HIS song!!!!
The best, ever. God bless you man.
That fan coming in to sing was hilarious! A good addition, too. Can't do none of that getting too close anymore. RIP Prine.Oh, duh, that's Kris Kristofferson! I think?
Absolutely!
Yep, that was Kristofferson.
Once upon a time there was a phenomenal video of jp and br singing this song live but it was removed. Pretty sure it was the same version that is featured on JPs “live” album. Wish I could find that version again!
RIP John
Wow, the sound "engineer" should habg his head in shame to this day.
the sound is not the better but what a moment
🍻🙏🍻
Was the sound engineer on vacation? Looks like Bonnie was pretty ticked off.
This is a tricky situation. Nobody on that stage got a sound check. You can see they're standing on a rotating stage, and they test a little bit on the other side before it rotates, but they really don't know how it's going to be before they're in front of an audience. What was feeding back was not the house speakers but those monitor cabinets right in front of her, and she probably told him that she really wanted them loud, and they were probably on the edge of feedback right at the beginning.
Fortunately most people are now using in-ear monitors and that's eliminated that source of feedback, as well as dramatically increasing the quality of the sound presented to the audience.
The sound was always a bit hit and miss with these sort of concerts, especially in the 80s for some reason, also the sound guy seems like an imbecile 🙄😂
They shoulda just let her sing it!
Kristofferson!!
beautiful,,,LOL,,
Bingers and sound engineers are not angels from anywhere. JMO;)
Wow. Check out the nut huggers. Lol
wow
I hope by now the sound tech has gotten better.
wtf kris kristofferson jumped in here also..
Prine and Kristofferson are great friends. You can tell by the look on Prine's face that he loved it!
He had to - Pine was one beat ahead of the band. Kristofferson jumped in and helped him get back on track. Good that he did that.
Isn't that Kris Kristofferson joining in?
Was that Kris Kristofferson who jumped in on the second verse with John?
Karin Callahan Yep the one and only
Kris "discovered" him in Chicago thanks to Steve Goodman's ( "City Of New Orleans ) recommendation.
Steve, and John also wrote "You Never Even Call Me By My Name" which was a big hit for David Allen Coe.
It was written as a total goof on country songs, but became a big hit.
R.I.P. Steve, and John. I know you guys are having a great time wherever you are.
lol god bless this mess
Yeah, I wonder how much of the money went to the democRAT party instead of the farmers who needed the money.
What a shame that the guy who wrote the tune can't play a duet with another who has covered it so well without having to share the mic with a bystander!
That bystander was Kris Kristofferson.
Yes indeed, I realize that, yet I wonder how much better it might have been if the original two had the opportunity to perform it without him.
He definitely gets a pass. Not only a good singer but really quite a good actor. Played some righteous villains.
Walter B Really, Kris was an amazing songwriter Including Me and Bobby McGee.
Kris Kristofferson helped John Prine and Steve Goodman at the start of their careers. He is a big fan of both those songwriters and jump started their careers. Oh, and by the way he is pretty good songwriter in his own right. duh?
Bonnie is a little pudgy there ain't she?
except for bonnie
no respect for women those days
RIP John
