  • What happens when you put the last V10-powered F1 car on modern Pirelli slicks in great conditions? It absolutely obliterates the all-time lap-record for the track.
In 2006 Minardi was bought by Red Bull and the new team was dubbed Toro Rosso (the Italian translation for Red Bull). Minardi had a deal in place to retain the V10 throughout 2006 to save money, as the team was having a rough time financially. When Red Bull took over, they also inherited said deal and thus the ''new'' STR1 was essentially a 2005 Red Bull RB1 with a slightly restricted engine. The engine was only allowed to rev to 17.000 rpm although by the sounds of it, this STR1 is no longer running with such restrictions nowadays. At full-chat, 19.000 rpm, the Cosworth TJ2005-2 produces a staggering 915 horsepower which makes the car ridiculously fast with its weight of only 605kg (including the driver).
Driven by Ingo Gerstl, competing in the BOSS GP series during the Jack's Racing Day at TT-Circuit Assen 2023, the STR1 set the all-time lap-record which stands today despite the best efforts of Klaas Zwart in a 2005 Jaguar R5 (video of that coming in the near-future). Enjoy the nostalgic sound of the howling 3.0L Cosworth V10 engine, pushed the way it should be.
