These engines in combination with KERS and the DRS system , combined with today's aerodynamics, would be absolutely insane . And nearly 20 years of development , they would rev to the absolute stratosphere.
How about V10 split turbo(With no PSI limit, just like the 70s. Just run one engine for one lap), Remove fuel flow rate limit. pre-chamber ignition, Morden aero 2004 chassis, DRS, 2022 width slick soft, KERS. With only 2 laps of fuel. Moveable areo parts(front wing? Bargeboard) Double DRS, Double defuser. So 2000+ horse power? 660 KG? With ridiculous down force? LOL
Edit: So let me sort it out again. 2004 chassis. 3.2L V10 split tubo(unlimited air/fuel flow rate) . engine that only last one lap. Impove the front wing and bargeboards a little bit.(like the 2020 cars, use turbulence to seal the floor better). No size limit on the rear diffuser. pre-chamber ignition. Slick tyre. Tiny fuel tank(lighter). Just make the whole rear wing DRS then(hyper car style).

The crazy thing about Ralphs lap is that the setup would be nowhere near as dialled in as it would be in a proper quali session. months of simulation work goes into each track these days so imagine the laptime with 100+ people working to shave off as musch time as possible

I absolutely love these videos with the old f1 cars, they are hilarious😂
If you look carefully you can see the Schumi smile smashing those hybrid things…
People forget that current power units need to last 7-8 race distances. If you tune them to only last for 1 race like the V10's back in the day, they will be much much faster.
Thats because of the ridiculous cost of current engines. 1 turbo hybrid costs the same as about 20 NA V10s. If you really want to extract maximum power from the V6 Turbo Hybrid, remove the hybrid system because it quite literally does not do anything, its just a political statement. We've had Turbo V6s in the past produce 1600 hp. However most would prefer NA V10s that give instant feedback, are cheaper and sound heavenly
@@R9naldo That is simply untrue. The costs of rnd for the v10's was just as insane as the v6 hybrids. And unlike today, with the addition of tobacco money, the development was unlimited.
@@Bahamuttiamat a simple NA engine is always gonna be cheaper than a Turbocharged engine with a whole hybrid system (MGU-h, MGU-k and ERS).
@@R9naldo Correct. However the amount of money teams were throwing at engine development was absurd back then. Ferrari was bringing something like 8 to 10 engines per race event!!
@@Bahamuttiamat Maybe the top level teams, yes, however not as much as current teams. But the key thing is that the competitive balance was not as bad as today, smaller teams could still afford to run independantly (unlike today).
And teams brought loads of engines because again the engines were cheaper. 1 turbo hybrid costs as much as like 20 NA engines
The V10's were incredible! I got to see/hear them twice in person. Words fail. Ermz, you're on fire again. Great video as always. God bless and race on 👍😎🏁
if the FIA wants to make F1 more green then plan the season better to make races closer together throughout the colander. Put the V10's v12's back in , the cars are a very small part of F1's carbon footprint and infinitesimally small for the whole world
The calender doesn't matter, in 90% of cases the teams go back to their home base between races, they don't go directly from race to race
@@hermy5086 the people yes, but many parts of the equipment not.
Apart from the fact that Mick Schumacher went for a spin in exactly the F2004 with slicks in 2020, that's a pretty fun and entertaining video. Good job!
Slick tires can make up 2 - 5 sec per lap in speed, 100 bhp difference can equal another .5 - 1.5 sec in speed. Grooved tires were literally meant to slow the cars down, we can see the difference in speed in full slicks and a light rain tire today.
Ralph being outta the car for 1.5 decades, no doubt he could find a lot more time if given more laps to run. Thats the function of practice before actual qualifying takes place.
Modern F1 cars are 200 kg heavier than the cars 20 years ago to make them safer for the drivers.
Now do it with the increased horsepower
Aside from a great video, please make a tutorial/guide on how to get your game looking that stunning. It's just crazy how beautiful watching you race is.

There is 2014 HP version of this car and it's just wild
I’d love to see a vintage F1 championship, where they make older cars safer. For example, 1970s spec aero and everything, but with 2020s safety standards, so a halo, HANS device, etc… Seeing classic tracks would also be cool.
"Imagination time" 😂
This may not be 100% accurate, but here goes. Kimi's pole (F2008) in Spain on the grooved tyres was a 1:21.813. That was with fuel. Massa set the fastest lap that weekend in Q2 1:20.584 with low fuel. The same year Ferrari tested the slicks during testing in Spain and recorded a time of 1:18.339. That's 2.2 seconds faster than the grooved tyres on Bridgestone Slicks. Also the Qualifying lap times improved in 2011 when Pirelli joined the sport. My guess would be that the V10s would be anywhere from 2.5 - 3 seconds a lap faster on slicks. Think the 2020 cars would still be a bit faster, but it's still amazing how great cars were from 18 years ago.
Fastest lap from Spanish GP 2022 was a 1:18.750 (Q3, Sharl LeGreg)/1:24.108 (Race, Checo). We've gone backwards.
they weren't necessarily great, you have to realize that most of why those v10 cars can even bring a candle to 2020 cars is because of the low weight. everything else is drastically superior, from the engine output to the aerodynamics, you name it, they got it. had the regulations in 2020 been as lenient as those in 2004, (no halo, low weight, traction control, no fuel flow limit) those 2004 lap times would be absolutely annihilated.
@@no1washerezz halo is needed + its dus not even add that mutch weight

"V6 turbo Hybrid"
"Low cost"
Bullshit! 1 turbo hybrid costs about as much as 20 NA V10s. Thats why they could use so many engines back in the day. The competitive balance was also much better back then; independant teams could actually survive
Though the V6s last way longer than the V10s.
@@deathtrooper2048They're limited on boost and fuel flow, can't even really push and sits on comfortably low RPM
F1 until 2006 on the other hand had no RPM limit, thus was being pushed to the limit all the time
If N/A engines were to have a certain limit, it would be very reliable as well
That car with KERS, ERS and DRS would be insanely unstoppable.
"Gigachad older brother doesn't care about open holes" 😂
That Daniel burn got me 😂
I feel like he first did the race and then decided the amount of laps.
wait, so you're telling me, that a guy that hasnt raced an F1 car for 14 years, beat most of the current f1 grip, with a de-tuned F1 car?
I think there are 2 big reasons why the modern cars seem slower:
1) safety features. Self explanatory
2) refueling. The v10 car doesn’t have a fuel tank in the right size. If these cars raced as is and the v10 had to refuel… well the outcome would be a lot less dramatic
Not necessarily, since quali laps are done with very very low fuel and the weight of a mostly empty fuel tank could only give a tenth of time so ralfs lap was fast af, and even in game at the last laps the cars are significantly lighter with low fuel loads
One thing to note about the 2004 regs that the F2004 was running with is the fact that they qualify with thr fuel load they start the race with. The F2004 can be outqualified with low fuel glory runs on Saturday. Its not uncommon for the fastest race lap to be faster than the car's qualifying lap back then.
ohh man got a wonderful sleep with this v10 chad sound for 2 hours thanks
The size comparison of the cars is hilarious.😂
The V10 I can live without, but bring the lighter slicker cars back please.

I'd love to see Mick in the F2004 with modern rubber 😁
He actually did some Laps at Hockenheim in 2019 with the F2004. I was standing in the last corner and that thing was loud af even tho it was detuned
I want F0, old engines, similar aero work with the size and weight of the older 2004 cars, modern tires, whatever turbo/supercharger the teams want, and as much fuel flow as they want. Let the cars go as fast as the driver can go.
Just give them a 4L V12, big tires, light weight, and moderate aero. Then they’d have lots of power and good noises as well as much more mechanical grip so you aren’t as reliant on clean air for grip.
A lot of what makes the racing boring is dependence on aero for grip. The cars are fast with clean air, but can’t get close enough for a pass.
@@NBSV1 i agree and that would still be fun to watch, but I would be curious how bonkers some teams would go with aero.
Actually the cut slicks actually benefited them for the longevity of the slick as it helped it's cooling propertys from what I remember.
The 2026 cars have to be at least or 80-90% the size of the ones we have today to enjoy some tighter racing
The cuts on the slicks were made because it got very fast, very clear that this V10's are beasts, and the cut slicks was to prevent them from being too fast. Ralf said this on his Sky germany commentary on a few occasions.
Man got personal beef wif Daniel for tht entire 1 lap xD

Put an invisible halo on the f2004 and I’ll watch f1 again
The biggest advantage to these older cars is the smaller size and weight. The V10 sounds so much cooler but it doesn’t really make more power. Basically about the same but the new cars are so much bigger, they’re going to be slower. The new engines definitely don’t rev as high either. Fuel economy wasn’t a concern back then, now it’s very important. These engines now have to last longer too, also most likely taking away some performance in exchange for reliability.
Except that's a engine from 04 making that much power with modern advances that same V10 sized engine would be roaring out with vastly more power
@@michaelkeha Still wouldn't be able to touch the fuel efficiency of the new motors. Not only that, the current PU's are very restricted and have headroom for way more power if they were fuel unrestricted like the old V10's.
If the V10 raced against the hybrids it'd splutter out of fuel about 1/3rd race distance....or fuel save so hard it'd barely do touring car speeds. Even if allowed to refuel to 105kg it will hamstrung. If the modern cars could refuel and use 160kg of fuel they'd eat it alive.
He added one lap on top of the usual five because he did a voice over so he actually didn't overtake for the lead in the fine 2 corners

Not only the turns, but also the deceleration. Holy crap.
The reason you were able to accelerate so fast compared to the others wasn't the traction control (well, yes, but not the entire truth). The slicks add more grip, and to top it all off, the cars being lighter makes it easier to accelerate given both in 2004 and nowadays they have approximately the same power.
