All that packaging for a few bits of plastic - I appreciate that they've gone to the trouble of ensuring that it wasnt broken in transit, but the shipping costs would have been ridiculous for the end result. WD seem to have had a great idea with the PiDrive but this make me happy to keep using my external HDD via USB from my Pi3.
I agree about the case. I wasn't impressed at all with it and nothing was secured by screws or clicked into place. Its all just loose and could easily fall over and crash the hard drive. I got the 1TB drive & case for $30 on sale so it wasnt all bad news.
I can feel the disappointment in this video . I'm sure by now you figured out to flip the lid, but if you put some LED's in there that icy glass look may actually work out nice for ya. Its a little flimsy but also that could work in your favor if you need to punch a hole in it to run some cable or install a button panel for a project.
The connector on the HDD is USB 3.0 A the cable connects to the Pi using a standard USB B connector. The cable also has a MicroUSB plug and socket to power both the Raspberry Pi and the HDD using only one single PSU.
I was never a fan of that case. Never got it myself because it looked so jankie and crap. The Pi Drive itself was pretty annoying too, I bought it for a laugh, tried using it, it didn't work out of the box and I couldn't be arsed to get it running, so it's just been sitting there.
Awesome
I dont know why people disliked your video, it told me what i needed to know for a future project with my pi
Thanks for the info man!
