This makes me think of the 80's & 90's!!!! We were so excited & laughing all the way! Last time I flew home from Colorado & said that is the last time I am flying anyplace! Miserable!!! Glad we have been there done that back in the good ole days :-)))))))))
I wonder if you ever flew one of my flights? I was just 8 or 9 yo kid the first time I stepped onto an L-10, must have been one of those quick runs from ATL to DFW, something strange like that... Anyhow, before that, I'd only known DC-9s, 727s and 737s.... After I flew on the L-10 all I cared about was hoping I could fly on another one... Still my favorite passenger plane that ever flew...
Flying to me is still exciting, I am happy, I think it is silly to clap after landing, and I do respect and obey the cabin crew. The real cost of flying has dropped dramatically over the years. If anyone wants a more upgraded experience, they need to fly in the front, and pay for it.
i grew flying in those L1011ʻs when first class gave you shrimp dinner and then ice cream and that plane was a beast never had a bad ride in it always smooth
OK...when Delta flew non-stop from Los Angeles to Birmingham. Alabama I flew this aircraft countless times. This took me back in time. Back when flight attendants were friendly and there was actual leg room. Wow... thanks for the memories...this was great. It was a cool aircraft...Go Lockheed!
@@TM-nu5vd Yes! This was in late 60s early 70s…Delta was only plane that went to Birmingham Alabama. And it was an L1011. Last time I flew one there was in 1986. Best jet EVER…so roomy and quiet.
@@gmariedorsey I remember flying Delta on their L1011, ORD-MIA flight. I want to say they occassionally had the L1011 on one of their ORD-ATL flights but not always. Still remember the ORDMIA flight numbers - 1135 down and 1136 back! Also recall Eastern having an L1011 on their ORD-SJU flight too.
Made two trips to Hawaii on Delta L-1011s. 1991, SLC-LAX-HNL-LAX-SLC in coach, and 1993, SLC-SAN-HNL-LAX-SLC in first. Great plane with a smooth ride and the growling sound on start up and take off is amazing!

Very nice Mullis, love and miss the Tristar 1/100 alot.... The 500 not as much, it was just something about the 22b engine (the sounds it made) that sent shivers down your spine!
This brings back memories of my Hawaii trips in the '90s. I flew on ATA, but they used these exact same Lockheed L1011 Tristars. Those old behemoths were huge compared to many of today's jets. But in the early 2000s all L1011s and DC-10s were replaced by the similar-sized Boeing 777. Which can transport the same number of people at a far lower operating cost.
I flew DL a lot In the late 1990s but strangely never on an L-10. Too bad. I did get to fly on TriStars flown by British Airways and ATA though, very nice plane. Loud at the back but more comfortable than a DC-10. And safer.
Wow!! What a cool vid from back in the day. It sure seemed like it took a long time to finally get over the runway!! Lol I was like...'hurry up! I wanna get on the ground and SEE Maui.!' Wonder what it looked like in the 90's....I was there in 2013 and had the time of my life on that beautiful island. And I sooo hope to go back someday. Even IF it's on a 737 again. 😞 Great vid.. I enjoyed watching it...and dreaming. 😉
I remember Delta flying the L1011 to Maui then continuing to Honolulu. Then back to Maui continuing on back to LA. Did they do this with old hub Dallas or ATL or Salt Lake?
@WorldAirwaysMD11 : What's it like flying that great beauty? I remember flying on these beasts when I was a kid. You're a lucky dude. Most of these have been scrapped. Such a shame.
@aerofoil74 Flying the Beauty was just breathtaking for the past 28 years back at delta. It was the most responsive aircraft that i had ever flow in my life as a captain. The most spacious cockpit was and still in my opinion was the Tristars. The best part of my life was flying her. She was a very smooth ride. When ever you hit turbulence, or if the radar showed turbulence, you would not be able to even feel it. It was a one of a kind aircraft and i really miss her.If i could relive, i would
Cheers... I loved the angle of attack on approach from the cabin, which always amazed me as a kid watching them come into Heathrow with the nose up so far... well if you ever fancy a flight into the Canary Islands feel free to watch my Britannia vid :)
Looked a little bumpy coming in, but that's normal for that approach. I flew into that airport on an Aloha 737 in 1984, and I remember how turbulent it was. I wasn't happy with all the vehicular traffic all over the island, but the area where I stayed was beautiful, as was the trip up to the top of the volcano. Didn't get to make the trip to Hana.
I remember flying into Atlanta and I was sitting all the way in the back. Back in those days you could smoke anyway the captain came on and said I have good news and I have bad news the good news is they’re going to let us land the bad news is the airport is closed due to heavy fog but this plane can land itself. The flight attendant was sitting directly in front of me facing me from my seat and at the very last second she jumped up and looked out my window leaning a crossed me and we never didn’t see the runway because the fog is so thick however my 30 minute layover lasted nine hours on a Sunday in a dry county where you couldn’t get a drink!😂🤗❤️🌈♾. I miss these big babies
in all seriousness and i know it's fun. but poor commuters travelling on the flight 🤣. Im joking. Well i have just been inspired, one day when I reach the rank of Purser Flight Attendant, I shall be making PA's like this on descent into places like Naples or Malaga 😁 Im serious! What a way to work man what a time to be alive. (Just subscribed to you, SD Mullis. Thank you for bring me a part of history that I will and would have never been part of. It was the space and smoothness and quietness compared to anything else then. New planes are quiet now but back then unless you were in the rear lavs on the L1011 it was the quietest ride in the sky. And one of the safest
this is the old delta that was so great, great aircraft, great food (in first) great flight crew the L-1011 was so smooth and so fast, now they fly mostly shitty ass 757's to hawaii smh what happened delta?
I love the 747 's & L-1011's !!!! Those are my favorite, I hate they did away with the L-1011....... Answer to your? I think it went down like every thing else is doing now days :-(
Bahahaha love this video when I heard the words Alohaaaaa Hawaiian way darn darn I miss Hawaii I lived there for 10 years 2000 to 2009 close to 2010 I really wanna go back and live on big island cheaper than Oahu
Haleakala is not the worlds largest dormant volcano. Mauna Loa is second next to Tamu Massif. #stoppullingshitoutyourass #perpetuatinglies These tourists go back home and look like idiots when they’re reiterating these untruths. And its “Aloha” not “alooooooo...HA” and “Kahului” not “KAHALOUIE”
Actually, Mauna Loa is still considered an active volcano, having last erupted in 1984. Tamu Massif, which is a submarine volcano, is considered extinct, having last erupted over 100 million years ago. So, please be careful about accusing others of "pulling shit out of your ass" and "perpetuating lies" because clearly, #youdontknowwhatyouretalkingabout.
I remember sitting in LAX at a gate in the 80s and watching an L1011 pull right up to the window almost, was so cool, what a beautiful airplane.
What a great pilot or attendant to give such a great narration. The good old 90s.
Wow I’ve never heard/seen people so excited and happy on an aircraft before! Wish it was still like that
This makes me think of the 80's & 90's!!!! We were so excited & laughing all the way! Last time I flew home from Colorado & said that is the last time I am flying anyplace! Miserable!!! Glad we have been there done that back in the good ole days :-)))))))))

Boeing 747s forever

flying used to be exciting, people used to be happy, clap after landing, respect the cabin crew. These days there is no magic in flying....
No leftist freaks either.

@@nestelberg5672 You are obviously a Democrat.
The magic is there. It's peoples' attitudes that suck.
Flying is less of a luxury these days due to the affordability. People take it for granted.

My last trip to Hawaii was on a L1011 what a smooth flight, sure miss those old aircraft.

My dad was ATC at Kahului from '66 to '68. Thanks for bringing back some great memories from my time in paradise!
Wow, what a great compliment. One of the best and most profound I have ever received. Thanks !!
How we used to fly before the era of jamin and cramin!!! Great video!!!
Great footage! A time capsule as well! Look at the people in this video. They look happy. The world was a much different place back then.
That was called the good ole days!!!
I really enjoyed this! Miss my yearly trips to the islands.
i wish they still had those L-1011s in service. They were such nice planes

2:10 average yield from sugar crop 11 lb's per acre? that'd be some SERIOUSLY expensive sugar. I"m thinking 11 tons/acre.

If flying was more expensive, it would be nicer. Now the planes might as well have Greyhound painted on the side.
It's a shame that, because of "Progress," there'll never be another Airliner Aircraft such as the L-1011. Too bad.
Braniff did Hawaii the best. First class on 747 Braniff Place really was the most exclusive address in the sky.
I wish I got the chance to fly on something like that.
Listen to those Rolls Royce engines in reverse.

Is that 1 of the flight crew talking?
Probably the purser. The pilots wouldn't distract themselves during a busy landing procedure (usually not anyway)
