இந்த பதிவில் திண்டுக்கல் மாவட்டம் நத்தம் அருகே வேலாயுதம்பட்டி என்னும் கிராமத்தை பற்றியது.இந்த கிராமத்தை ஒற்றியுள்ள சிறு மலை தொடரில் எறும்புகள் கற்பனைக்கும் எட்டாத என்னிக்கையில் வாழ்கின்றன..மாலை நேரங்களில் ஊருக்குள் புகுந்து கிராமவாசிகள் வளர்க்கும் ஆடு மாடு கோழி உள்ளிட்ட அனைத்து கால் நடைகளையும் தின்று விடுகிறது.குறிப்பாக கண்களை குறிப்பாக வைத்து தாக்கும் இந்த எறும்புகள் மனிதர்களையும் விட்டு வைப்பது இல்லை.தென்னிந்திய மாநிலமான தமிழ்நாட்டில் ஏழு கிராமங்களில் வசிக்கும் நூற்றுக்கணக்கான மக்கள் மஞ்சள் பைத்தியம் எறும்புகளின் தொல்லையால் தத்தளிப்பதாகக் கூறுகிறார்கள்.இந்தப் பூச்சிகள், தங்கள் கால்நடைகளைத் தாக்கி, பயிர் விளைச்சலைப் பாதித்து, அவர்களின் வாழ்வாதாரத்தை ஆபத்தில் ஆழ்த்துவதாக அவர்கள் கூறுகின்றனர்.இயற்கை பாதுகாப்புக்கான சர்வதேச ஒன்றியத்தின் படி, மஞ்சள் பைத்தியம் எறும்புகள் உலகின் மிக மோசமான ஆக்கிரமிப்பு இனங்களில் ஒன்றாகும்.அவை கடிக்காது அல்லது குத்துவதில்லை, ஆனால் ஃபார்மிக் அமிலத்தை தெளிப்பதால் எதிர்வினைகள் ஏற்படலாம்.தமிழகத்தில் பாதிக்கப்பட்ட கிராமங்கள் திண்டுக்கல் மாவட்டத்தில் உள்ள கரந்தமலை வனப்பகுதியைச் சுற்றியுள்ள மலைப் பகுதியில் அமைந்துள்ளன. இங்கு பெரும்பாலான மக்கள் விவசாயிகள் அல்லது கால்நடை உரிமையாளர்கள்.வனப்பகுதிக்கு அருகில் சென்றவுடன் எறும்புகள் எங்கள் மீது ஏறி எரிச்சல், கொப்புளங்கள் உண்டாகின்றன. அதுவும் மொய்ப்பதால் குடிக்க தண்ணீர் கூட எடுத்துச் செல்ல முடியவில்லை. என்ன செய்வது என்று தெரியவில்லை, என்கிறார் செல்வம். 55 வயது விவசாயி.

Ants live in an unimaginable abundance in the small mountain range adjacent to this village.Entering the town in the evenings, the goats, cows, and chickens raised by the villagers eat all the animals.These ants, which attack the eyes in particular, do not spare humans.Hundreds of people who live in seven villages in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu say they are reeling from an infestation of yellow crazy ants.These insects, they say, attack their livestock and affect crop yields, putting their livelihoods in danger.Yellow crazy ants are among the world's worst invasive species, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature.They don't bite or sting but spray formic acid, which can cause reactions.The affected villages in Tamil Nadu are situated in a hilly region around the Karanthamalai forest in Dindigul district. Most people here are farmers or cattle owners."As soon as we go near the forest, the ants climb on us, causing irritation and blisters. We can't even carry water to drink as they swarm that too. We don't know what to do," says Selvam, a 55-year-old farmer.
