My dad was in the coal business all his life and in 1967 took us to this area for a family vacation. He always talked about potash and loved this kind of scenery. Watching this made me feel like he was here with me. Your videos are gorgeous and tranquilizing and so informative. My husband Richard is your biggest fan and I'm your new one. Thank you so much for this excellence. ❤
It is humblig watching theese vetrans navigate theese rugged terains in. full control of getting ttheese trains from point to point could almost run their trains blindfolded with the experience they have. I say almost blindfolded because it would be. imposible to do their jobs s afely
So many familiar scenes and landmarks. In winter 1978 friends and I took this same trip for train chasing. Sacramento to Provo, Mapleton, Thistle, Soldier Summit, Helper, Price, Green River. We caught the Rio Grande Zephyr a couple of days. Also spent the night at the Utah Railway yard. Alcos! We traveled and cold camped in my VW bus. See my avatar. Froze our asses, our water and had to warm the oil sump one morning with the catalytic heater before the bus would start. Our trip back to Sacramento we kept going South to the Grand Canyon. On our way back we also stopped at Tehachapi Loop for more chasing. Great Trip. Recently scanned the slides and working on a slideshow. Nice work here on your part. Thanks for sharing.
Enjoyed your excellent video and appreciate very much you giving the viewer information about the equipment and the locations. I always enjoy watching just trains but I like to learn more about railroad operation and equipment. The scenery in Utah during the winter just makes the viewing that much better. Thanks
Always giving the best video shots and best historical informations. Drayton DIB is the best RUclips railfan channel in my opinion. He covers all the US of A. No discrimination there. Keep up the work. I enjoyed DIB during the pandemic March 2020 to now. Thanks
Your videos are very good. Good narration, no meaningless chatter, succinct narration, good sound recording, excellent photography, and superb subject selection. You must have talented camera, audio, an editing persons. Good clear and crisp images. I’m sure your cameras are good quality. Thanks!
Thank you for documenting the trains on this video especially the last segment on the Utah Railroad, Drayton! Your efforts at documenting current railroad history are greatly appreciated along with the historical perspective that you add to current railroad operations. I really appreciate all the effort you put into your video productions.
Great scenery and a nice mix of trains. Wife and I visited Utah in 1993 - so it was good to see some of those dramatic landscapes. You guys do a great job with content and narration.
One of my best railroad memories happened on the UTAH in Provo, and to make it sweeter, it was on National Train Day. A friend and I noticed that their was some Aussie units as well was the MK50-3s. Also was their was a Utah Railway employee. I asked first thing if we could check out the interior of the MK50-3s. He told have at it, but be aware of your surroundings. Then go and see him once we was done. So we seen the interior of 5001, 5006 & 6062, a SD50S. Also on hand was a GP38-2 in fresh paint. After we photographed the units we went in and let him know that we was fine but things just got better. He had waiting for us was a cold bottle of water and a true Utah Railway hat. No orange at all on the hat. Very awesome day. Earlier down in Ogden on display was UP 1989 and 1996!. That day will be hard to top that one off. Thanks for bringing back the memories Delay in Block!
Did I see at 53 minutes in the gorge area, 5 lead loco's and midpoint DPU's tied together totalling 6 ! Wow ! Thats guaranteed tractive force. Thats eleven loco's, and I still haven't seen the end of the train.😎👌👍😷
Drayton, very nice work! I would really like to see you do some more videos out west. Maybe go from Salt Lake to Portland and follow the Uncle Pete over the Blues Mountains in Eastern Oregon over to Hinkle yard and down the Columbia River Gorge into Portland. Then while your here in Portland you can check out SP4449 and SPS700 and some short line activity in the area.
Spanish Fork canyon gets so few trains that if you see one, you need to follow it. A far cry from the SP days. Today Echo canyon is the place to see action in Utah.
@@DelayInBlockProductions Honestly, you guys are the Best things on you tube. Your hard work in shooting and editing is very well appreciated by many of us train lovers! Very informative and well-put-together video I grew up next to the tracks of what was then the New Haven Railroad (Metro-North) in Old Greenwich, Ct. as a kid that was like our playground. We would do some crazy things near the tracks my parent's house was a block away from the Electrolux Factory so we used to climb around on the boxcars at the spur to the factory. On a couple of occasions climbed aboard a boxcar and then released the air brakes and ride it down the spur to the factory (stupid kid stuff). All your videos are great because of the informative narration which goes along with the video. While watching the video of the coal train in Utah I was thinking of all the folks who no longer have jobs because we are phasing out coal power. It has to be done due to the harm to our planet of global warming but unfortunately, every change affects or hurts someone. It was great to have a record of a historic coal train in action. Thanks, Chas.
I used to remember seeing heavy Southern Pacific freight trains. Passing through Roseburg, Oregon from 1986 to 1996. Before Union Pacific railroad bought Southern Pacific and Rio Grande.
@@railroadwolf At that time there were no log trains it was lumber, chips and laminated beams. But from Cottage Grove to Eugene we did have logs from Georgia Pacific Corporation come down some track east of Cottage Grove to S P main line go north to Eugene in 50's to late 70's I remember.
On the Cane Creek Sub I wouldn't drive faster than 5 mph considering the dismal state of the tracks. 15 mph seems much too fast for me. - Anyway nice film, beautiful landscape, thank you.

When the first thing you see is a heritage unit. You know it's going to be a great day.
I love this type of railfanning movies. Great trains in beautiful landscape with an aweful commentary. Thank you 👍
The CACV in Milford, NY has an ALCo switcher numbered 3051 that also has an air whistle similar to that of Heber Valley's 1813.
I see a train like the one at 9:30 leaving Roper yard in SLC every now and then. Always wondered what was up with that. Now I know.

What a treat. Thoroughly enjoyed the locale, the topography, the photography and of course: the trains. Many thanks.

I started see S.P. trains in the 60's coming up from Medford area past Roseburg to Eugene. I live in Yoncalla and then Cottage Grove to 1992.
Yepp. Pulling those heavy loaded log trains and finished lumber trains

Too bad you are not having a video in the works for the Utah Transit Authority commuter Train. The FrontRunner... (would be cool)

The voice of the detector at 8:50 sounds almost exactly the same as the old D&H ones in PA.
Thanks for doing the work to collect this footage. Thanks for sharing.
If you hadn’t told me that the audio was dubbed in for the Utah Railway chase I wouldn’t of noticed. Everything matched up to good.
Wow you guys have done what I want to do I have most of the research done on the old promontory branch but would love to travel like you have done. Nice job
Was that snow on front of the locomotive between 11',20" & 11',55", remember we were in Utah ?
🤔🤔😎🤠

Another great video!
i love this
Man some of those UP engines have seen a lot of action. How do they get that dirty without anything thinking “hmm. Maybe this unit needs a bath break”
UP has a tendency to not wash older locomotives. To put it bluntly, if the unit is over 5 years old or it’s a heritage, they won’t wash it.
Can't wait for Cane Creek to come out for TSW2
So did you go through the feather river canyon through greenville Quincy and portola because there is a spectacular spot between Quincy and portola called spring garden and Williams loop
