tom! I watched this video before skating today and stuck a kick flip after not getting anywhere for 6 months, the tip that helped me the most was keeping weight in my back foot. thank youuu!! going to dedicate some time tomorrow to focus on them and realllyyy land them!

I know HOW to do most tricks, but the important tips like where your weight should be and where you're aiming your kick direction are never covered. It's always, "Here's where you slide your foot off, try it"
I started doing kick flips in 1988 and fuck man I would force the flip with my leg and never with my ankle. That would also force my shoulder to open up and my board would flip but land way over to the heel side. Now at 45 I’m having to re-learn this shit the right way but now I’m getting them almost consistently. Wish I had RUclips back then 😅. Thanks for the video!
I just got back into skating about 4 weeks ago at 38 after almost decades. I have a few basic tricks I'm landing on a fairly consistent basis and just started to attempt kickflips the other day. I can get a good spin almost half the time but I cannot get my front foot back to the board, I also feel like I pop way to high many times I try and every time I do that, the spin is slow. I see many people able to pop and flip close to the ground but I cant seem to keep them low. Oh well, back at it again today, maybe i will see some progress. I appreciate the time you take to make these videos.
I can kickflip with a good consistency, but always too low, and never understood why I can’t get higher kickflips, but can ollie considerably high. Watching this video made me see that I’m flicking too much for the side of the screws, and not waiting for my pop, flicking too soon. Thanks for the tips, I will come back to give a feedback after testing these tips!
This tutorial is great for switch flips btw. One might think they are better off trying to mimic their regular stance but this video gives great input on how to learn it again the other way

@@DHunter_47 I hope anyone reading this takes the time to consider these words. I've had wild personal experiences with God that have all led me to Jesus Christ. Once I had these experiences, my search for truth and fulfillment was finally over and I no longer felt a longing in my soul for something more. And I've dealt with depression, anxiety, ADD, you name it. If you're reading this, I pray that you take the time to even just be open to God, and to genuinely ask Him to reveal to you whether or not He's real. If you mean it and truly want to know, God will give you an answer. (Luke 11:9)
Love your channel I love how you go deep into every little detail it make getting these so much easier also I was hoping to get a tutorial on power slides since I’ve been struggling and thanks for the awesome guides !!
Hey Tom, great video, but I keep flicking the board all the way around, only it lands it front of me, almost as if I’m kicking it out. Because of this I only land it with my front foot, any tips to help this?
Thanks Samson! This is a common issue with kickflips so don't worry you're not alone. Do you have much momentum when you're rolling? Because having a little speed/momentum will help your body keep up with your board. Also, how are your shoulders before you pop? If you keep them square and parallel with your board, that should help you stay above your board. If those don't work, try lunging and leaning more forward as you pop so you can stay ahead of your board, kind of like how you would for an ollie. Let me know if these help or if you have more questions!
I can flick my board pretty well, but I'm never able to get my front foot to stay up. It's not a commitment thing, I genuinely can not keep my front foot from hitting the ground. Any tips?
When you’re jumping, do you jump backwards? I notice a lot of people when doing them the board would land backside way rather then landing in a straight line.
I think the worst is when I go for that swag ninja kickflip and im too front heavy and the board does like a somersalt into my shin and slightly misses my nutsack.
@toms_tutorials with the front foot of the slide my board tends to lean to the heel side causing me to be off balanced at times. Any suggestions on keeping it from doing this?
Thank you! I skate an 8.25" Gnars (gnars.com/) board, Thunder trucks, Bones Bearings (Swiss or Reds), Jessup Ultra Grip, and any wheels size 30-32mm, usually Bones.
It's hard to say without seeing it but here are a few things you could try dependent upon the way you're currently doing them. You could be flicking with too much of your foot on the board to start, or you're flicking too straight off your nose, or you're over delaying the flick. Hope re-adjusting one of those is helpful!
I have a bad knee so I tend to keep more of my weight on my back leg and I'm quite possibly jumping off of my back leg more so than my front leg. Would this be a problem? I seem to get rocketa a lot
I’m just like mentally stupid. I don’t know how to do. I’ve been doing flicks and I can’t do it sitting down. I’ve been doing everything I’ve been. I still just can’t land it.
The tip at 0:53 really really helped my flick be more consistent. I always had my foot on the center line of the board but more on the back of tail. Why does that slight change make such big difference? ruclips.net/video/VetEbEuGwCs/видео.html
I love hearing this, thanks for sharing! I don't know why, but the more on your tail/centered your toes are the more pop you get. Maybe it has to do with having more surface area of your board to snap down on?

The kickflip you did in the intro is gold! Guess I need to study this cause that’s how I want mine to look
Those are some steezy kickflips.
Thanks so much! 🙏

Love these videos!!!! Helps a lot thanks
So stoked to hear this! Glad they're helping!
My number 1 question is if you push down to "pop" how do you go "up"? The board launches?very confusing..i mean it works
Do you have any tips how I can fix and help my back knee raise up and pop first then flick I have trouble with flicking first 😢
Super helpful. Thanks
It always does a varial ,even whan i pop it straight down. Any tips? Love the videos

My problem was I was putting too much pressure on my back foot so it's important to know you stay in your front foot until the instant of the pop.
Thanks bro u r a legend

Try kicking more outward rather than down
For the back foot are you up on youre toes or is your foot flat
Is it normal for your thigh/knee to feel sore after doing a bunch of kick flips?
When you’re jumping, do you jump backwards? I notice a lot of people when doing them the board would land backside way rather then landing in a straight line.
I think the worst is when I go for that swag ninja kickflip and im too front heavy and the board does like a somersalt into my shin and slightly misses my nutsack.
Great turorial
🙏 thank you!
Can you do one on how to slappy? Noseslide? 50/50? Crooks?
I plan to eventually do grind tricks like these! I definitely wanna do a slappy one!
Sweet brah ❤❤❤
@toms_tutorials with the front foot of the slide my board tends to lean to the heel side causing me to be off balanced at times. Any suggestions on keeping it from doing this?
I can’t land my front foot it keeps landing in the ground any tips to fix that? Please and thanks

do you have to pull your front leg back after kicking?
what problem do I have to solve if the board is sticking to my front foot?

honestly rockets are more caused with the way you flick

Hi
Is your front foot flatted? Or tip toed?
I would say more tip toe'd, so your heel is raising up, allowing you to put more pressure down on your toes.
What model Lakais do you wear? Sheffields?
These were the Griffins! Some of my favorites are the Riley 3's, Flaco 2's, and the new Essex's. Love these Griffins too 🔥
@@toms_tutorials thanks!
