Thanks for the comparison with the Spitfire F4 99. It's been a long time since I used F4.
I'm offset to the soft side compared to you. I just bought some X99 for bowls. I have a street setup with X97, they're okay for me but I'll replace them with the new Spitfire 97s when worn. And I quickly replaced my Powell Dragon 93A because I didn't like the feel on grinds.

In the Bones (Powell) vs Spitfire field I’ve skated 101, 99 and 93A Spitfires and 99A STFs, 93A Dragons and the X97s. In my experience the different Bones (Powell) wheels all feel softer than their Spitfire counterparts. Not to say they are worse though. All the wheels feel great for what they do but I have a Spitfire preference in so far as if the surface is suited to the wheel I like the feel and capabilities of the Spitfires more.
But the Bones (Powell) wheels are all more forgiving in terms of the tolerance for worse surfaces than their Spitfire counterparts. If you know what you’re skating I prefer Spitfires but if you want something that can handle a bit of a wider range of surfaces I’d go with the Bones (Powell) wheels.
I got to say that the best all round wheel is probably the Dragons. Though again I’d rather choose to ride the Spitfire 93s and not skate a surface that requires the Dragons to feel good.
Yet to try the X99s but if they are a tad softer than the Spitfires they might very well be a great wheel. It doesn’t take a that much of a crusty surface to make the Spitfire 99s feel too hard but when you’re on something that they can handle they feel so good and slide so easily.
I’d say currently for the spots I skate and skate to the X97s or Spitfire 93s are my go to wheels.
It’s great to have so many different good wheels to choose from!

@@RikRiorik yup I agree!! Spitfires are the best for smooth skatepark/ smooth street spots imo. But I skate a good amount of street that’s not so smooth and these x99 are so versatile that it’s hard to take them off atm!

This is an interesting one for me.. Ty so much for the review man... i really appreciate the time and the edit
I have just gone from the nano cubics 97a in 60mm to 99a spitfires in 99a but this time in 56mm. I predominantly only skate bowls and 1/4s etc.. im 47 years old and 6 months in after 34 years off!
I only have skated these FF 56mm for about 2 hours.. but the 99a ( and im not sure if its just the Spitfire urethane ) just feels super hard and i wanna say slower than the 97s. I know that i have dropped 4mm in size and its going to feel slower. I thought the hardness might account for the drop in speed i was going to get.
Im thinking that these might have actually been the wheel that i was looking for... i like smooth, and i am not really down with the harsh sound ( but i get why some love it) and at 47 im only doing coping tricks that my body is going to allow me. The reason for the 99s were that i wanted to start sliding boardslides on the coping and didnt want the stick.
Are these noticeably smoother and quieter than FF 99a ? Im also down with keeping my joints in check re the impact absorption but you have already ticked that box!
Will i prefer these more if i like the 97 feel and sound?
You got a new sub from me..
    Love from Australia
    Benny

@@bennyg949 hey man I appreciate the comment! So these are definitely smoother and quieter than a 99a spitfire. I have ridden the 97 spitfire as well and can personally say that the bones x99 are a bit smoother and quieter than those as well but I’d say they slide better than a 97 spitfire. So if you want to skate a smaller wheel like you’re skating right now I’d say give these a try in a 55mm or 56mm and you’ll most likely have the speed of the 60mm wheels you had. Hope this helps!

@@Skates123456789 i can 100% say that bones are quieter and a little softer feel. They are exactly what i was after.
The ff although a great wheel, were just not my cup of tea. I could feel everything with those under my feet. And with that they almost felt slower?
