- Is getting an environmental degree worth it in college? Many of you have asked me whether getting an environmental degree is worth it for your career, success, or even your happiness. Let’s talk about this!
Environmental science focuses on fundamental sciences like math, chemistry, biology, physics, atmospheric science, earth science and geology. As an environmental science major, you'll spend much time considering environmental issues' scientific and quantitative aspects. You’ll cover social, biological, and physical science, which gives you a well-built foundation.
People interested in environmental science are often curious about the planet, climate change, and how to improve overall ecological well-being. If you are passionate about understanding the environment, an environmental major may suit you! The environmental industry generates more than $265 billion and more than 125,000 new positions annually in the United States. For many people, you are probably told that the environmental sector isn’t a well-paying job compared to business or technology. The environmental sector is growing fast, so plenty of jobs are out there. It’s also called the green economy!
What questions do you have about environmental science? Did you study an environmental major in college? If so, share your comments in the video below!

I remember people in my life (old white men) trying to convince me to “at least” do environmental engineering if I was going to go the environmental route & at the time the main reason I decided not to was bc of the math. Then I got the course catalog for the BS degree 😭 I swear my math profs just felt bad for me.
Ugh, they really are the worse when it comes to providing advice, especially the toxic mentality of, "If I can do it, anyone can!". Truly disheartening and glad we made it through and look where we are at now :D!
Love this video! Honestly I went into this video thinking this would be more of a pros and cons list, but hearing about your personal experience is really interesting and helpful! I'm just a highschooler (senior) unsure of whether to go down the environmental science or environmental engineering route, so hearing about how you didn't know exactly what you were getting into at first is honestly a bit comforting (the only environmental class i have taken is AP environmental science, and I also don't know the difference between environmental studies and environmental science).
Ahhh thank you so much for sharing your thoughts! It is a difficult choice to decide what major you want but just know that you can always change if you need to during undergrad! If you enjoyed AP environmental science you'll probably love an environmental major. I couldn't take it at my HS but knew that it was going to be something i loved in college. Good luck!
This video helped me answer many questions I have right now going into the summer before applying to my local community college for env sci. I have had these questions for so long and never knew how to describe it fully. Thanks a ton and this was so helpful

Thank you so much for watching and you got this! I remember thinking 4 years went by so slow but once you are done life goes by fast haha!
You don’t know how much I’m going to replay this when I go back to college just for the encouragement 🙏🏽
I’m so thankful it can help other people. You got this!! Stay strong and motivated and surround yourself with people who will help you study ♥️🙏🏽

12:12 Thank you for including nonbinary people! It always saddens me when I hear about gender statistics, and although I'm aware that most gender statistics don't include LGBTQ people, nonbinary people usually aren't even mentioned when kind of stuff is being talked about. So, I'm grateful! 🥰💛
It's so important we continue to expand these surveys that are rooted in binary assumptions! And it's so sad that we are erased from these data stats sometimes, it's like LGBT Environmentalists are in these spaces!
I have done Bachelor in Zoology and Now I want to continue Environmental Science. Honestly I found your video so Helpful and they way you explain I love it.
Awww thank you so much!!! And I’m wishing you the best in your journey!!!
I'm a student of MSc environmental science and I want to be a environmentalists
Absolutely am so thankful to you for making this video, I can't tell you how thankful I am. I've heavily been considering environmental science as a latina/poc lgbtq woman and I'm extremely thankful to you for including this angle , it means so much.
I'm so glad to hear that my story helps! It's been great to hear that it's resonated with so many people in different spaces!

Hey! You got this, find local study groups at your college, go to office hours, and ask freinds to help you! practice doing problems on a board, it helps with the memory! you will make it, you got this, dont ever give up. i struggled in math a lot, but i promised it made it worth everything

Why does race and gender and sexual orientation matter so much to you?
why do you care about what i say if you have nothing productive to contribute.
