    Check out the Makita XAG03M cordless brushless angle grinder. Surprising amount of power packed into a cordless tool!
    Thanks to Home Depot and Makita for providing a review sample in exchange for my honest, unfiltered feedback.

    Heads up about this tool. I saw it at Home Depot for $189 in my hometown of Minnesota. I hopped onto Amazon and they had the same model for $105. Oddly enough Amazon had the same model for other prices too, but I did purchase it from Amazon for $105 and it's been amazing.

    Just a tip. You don't need to wrench down on the retaining nut for the abrasive wheel. Consider the direction the shaft turns...it tightens as it turns and is used. You can literally snug it up by hand, and it's enough. That's why a lot of the commercial grade angle grinders don't even have a wrench for that nut.

    • @DoresoomReviews

    • @obfuscated3090
      @obfuscated3090 5 лет назад

      Correct. More details for those who don't know how commercial weldors do it: The way to snug grinder nuts down is start the nut then grab the wheel/disc with a (gloved) hand and twist that. I prefer Makita nuts and have them on most of my grinders.

    I think that the adaptive speed actually reduces the revs when it detects that the tool struggles on a hard material, so the grinder doesn't stall. This means that it adjusts the revs towards a higher torque in this case ( the maximum torque is at some lower revs). And when it cuts easily - it goes to the highest revs - so it cuts it faster. It is a pretty clever option.

    • @wd9102
      @wd9102 4 года назад +1

      If the change is mechanical, through gears, then yes for sure, less speed more torque but I am not sure if it's the same when it is adjusted electronically. Probably not.

    Hi,
    Just which that DeWalt, Milwaukee and Makita had a hole on the top so you can put the handle for a better grip.
    Very weird that Kobalt and Ridgid are the only two that has all three position on their cordless grinder and no one else. I guess they were the only ones thinking, LOL....
    Also i which that DeWalt could bring the side switch model to the U.S. The side switch model (DCG 405) is only in the UK and Australia. Plus they have the paddle style. What the heck DeWalt, LOL....
    Just my thoughts.

      No it definitely doesn't have its own battery fuel gauge on it. It's one of the older style batteries that makita had not updated yet at that point. They were the last major brand to get on board with the on battery fuel gauge.

    Hi,
    I went to Home Depot to look at this Makita 18v cordless disk grinder. Man this has the best handle and switch design on the market.
    I do not like the paddle switch style on the dewalt 20v or the milwaukee m18. This Makita is by far the best design for a 18v. Don't know why other brands don't use a switch.
    Well DeWalt does have one on their 20v but it's only available in the UK. Why, DeWalt ????
    The only thing I wish it had was a placement on the top for the handle. The only brand that has a 3 handle position is Kobalt.
    Just my thoughts.
    Thanks for this video on the Makita

    • @DoresoomReviews
      @DoresoomReviews  4 года назад +1

      I think the predominance of the paddle switch design has to do with safety regulations. This slide style will keep running until it's turned off or run out of batteries. The paddle switch design will turn off if you let go. A lot of businesses probably want to go with the paddle switch for their employees to reduce liability.

      Yeah, i can see that safety paddle switch at a work place.
      I wish we can have both models. Especially for the DIY, Work shop guy or gal.
      I'm so use to my corded one with the side switch. I know the makita is a top switch but it does have that cool feature when you take the battery off. When you put the battery back on you have to hit the switch on again. That's why I like that Makita.
      Thanks

      I ordered a 6" guard for a different tool then cut off the Makita clamp and welded it to the 6" guard whose clamp I cut off. I wouldn't grind with a 6" wheel on a little grinder but gentle cutting with the 6" wheels is far superior to the nearly worthless 4-1/2" size. Obviously voids any warranty but it's an angle grinder not jewelry. I've done this to several other small grinders with good results and no burnt grinders.I got this Makita with their electric chain saw (bar is flimsy but the saw works very well) in a bundle.

    I am planing to buy Makita cordless angle grinder, I have other tools by Makita and all I have is two 18v 2.0Ah batteries. So question is this: are the batteries of 2.0Ah capacity is enough to run angle grinder like this? How much time I can get it working?

    • @DoresoomReviews
      @DoresoomReviews  5 лет назад

      I've only used 4Ah and 5Ah batteries with mine. I think you'll want something higher capacity than the 2Ah batteries, or you'll be waiting on them to charge a lot.

      @@DoresoomReviews So how minutes of work cutting metal You can get from 4Ah battery?

    • @obfuscated3090
      @obfuscated3090 5 лет назад

      I haven't maxed this Makita out yet but for sustained use a corded grinder is far superior to cordless. I wouldn't buy a 4-1/2" grinder for heavy duty cutting. My corded 6" Metabo (IMO the most useful size because they take 6" cutting discs) works very well for that. My corded 6" Makita is newer with fewer hours but works well. I use cordless grinders (I have older Milwaukee 28Vs) for light work away from the shop. For heavier work away from the shop if there's no site power or generator I run an inverter from my truck to power corded tools. If you are cutting sheet metal, ductwork etc this Makita should work decently. BTW if you're cutting a lot of straight lines, the thin kerf 6" angle grinder discs adapt to circular saws (corded or cordless) with the usual washers. They cut faster and more accurately than thick abrasive discs.

    About the guard. Because cutting is more dangerous than grinding that is why you need to secure with a driver

    • @DoresoomReviews
      @DoresoomReviews  6 лет назад

      I never considered that - you make a great point!

    • @obfuscated3090
      @obfuscated3090 6 лет назад +2

      Cutting is NOT more dangerous because grinding wheels throw much heavier fragments while zip disc chunks are lighter, but either way stay out of the plain of rotation.
      Cutting discs do NOT require tightening with a "driver" (you mean a pin wrench). They have no tendency to loosen. I've made thousands of cuts doing welding and fab and mechanic work using cutting discs on a variety of grinders from multiple brands. The nut on a grinder spindle tightens under load. Pin spanners/wrenches are for removal and sometimes for tightening an item you can't grip with gloves.

    • @5084204

      True, but if you have no mains and no generator - 12 minutes with a cordless grinder are worth much more than even an hour with the corded one ;)

    • @kyleheaser351boombaby

      If you use an angle grinder constantly and are positioned in one spot, such as a workbench indoors near an outlet, then of course a corded grinder is the way to go. If you are working outdoors, changing locations/on the move then a cordless makes sense. You may be suggesting that the brushless motor soaks up batteries quicker than a brushed motor. I actually have no idea in those respects. My brushless angle grinder (same featured) is a battery hog. All of my Makita tools are. But as I am road construction cordless is my only option.

I don't know if they've revised the manual since they introduced the BL18X0B battery packs (where X=Ah capacity) with fuel gauges on them, but I'd suspect those fit as well.

      Mate if you took your guard off on any commercial work site you'd have safety officers kick you off the site as soon as they see you. This is the worst advice and you're a fuckwitt for spreading nonsense. Leave the guard on, it''s there for a reason.

    • @obfuscated3090
      @obfuscated3090 5 лет назад +1

      The only tool I'd use with the guard off is a flap disc because they don't tend to bite hard and are difficult to break, but that's still an OSHA foul. Grinding/cutting disks aren't "composite" (binder/cloth abrasive flaps) like flap discs and break easily. Flap discs of suitable grit work great for blade sharpening so I use those.
      I have zero problem when I use cutoff wheels to rough an edge but I use a VERY light touch. I never force a grinder, any grinder. I let the machine do the work.
      MOST IMPORTANT is to keep your body and face out of the PLANE OF ROTATION of the grinding or other wheel. If you're not in the way when things go bad then the chunks fly elsewhere.
      I always wear face shields even with small grinders because goggles don't protect the face.
      Time is money and in boiler work etc some guards may not clear adjacent tubes but the weldors and fitters who work boilers know and accept the increased risk and their faces aren't usually in the plane of rotation. There's no advantage to going guardless elsewhere.
