At that moment, the timing for everything Devil Jin can do is set, and thus your sidestep timing should be easy. You can't react to a hellsweep, and you can never truly know the timing one comes out, so the timing you sidestep should come out is also unknown. I'm not trying to defend Devil Jin. He's arguably my most hatred character in this entire game to fight. I'm just saying u4 is low hanging fruit, and that there are way worse things he has. Like electric, b2,1, uf4 giving a free b4 again, his homing cancelable mid wall bounce that's only -12, ff2 having a ton of pushback. I just have a whole list before I ever get to u4.
The problem is if he does u4 without staying in the air which sends him very far away. Even if you ssl after blocking u4 he's too far away so you have to dash in and launch or use a long range launcher. One thing to do is dash in and get his back and if he lands punish but that's easier said than done. I know some characters can option select. Law for example can dash flip kicks and that beats every option but most characters have to guess.
The stagger effect like TMM said is a good options, if he doesnt stay in the air, some characters wont even be able to launch punish u4 if u try to option select, at least every character have a mid launcher or delayed hopkick even if the stagger gives high crush
Devil Jin's amazing potential is talked about a lot but when I see high level matches involving him it's never really a complete shut-out. The reason I think Devil Jin is strong but maybe not OP is that he struggles with cohesion and synergy in his moves. He has all these great tools but there are few opportunities to see them working together organically to create a complete gameplan. A lot of his attacks, when blocked, don't lead into a follow up that you can build on, you're just back to neutral or even gave up your turn. With Jin I can use a blocked attack to lead into something else (like doing f,f+2 - if they try to close the gap to punish after a block I can hit them with 1+2 to throw them back). But with Devil Jin there's no momentum to build off a blocked move because his moveset doesn't have that synergy to it that gives the other characters I play reliable and consistent flowcharts and gameplans. With Devil Jin almost everything feels like I'm coming up with my next move on the fly because if I don't connect I'm almost certainly back to zero. It also means I spend a lot of time trying to pick the perfect shot because just generic poking isn't going to get returns.
With other string unlike leeroy fakhumram julia anna lucky chloe the list goes on. If you block the hell sweep its all over and both his ewgf and hell sweep can be duck and its evaded plus he lacking mid move that can launch other than his u+4 and ws 2
As a Dvj main yea you're right Dvj is super super strong but he does not have that Synergy in his kit. It's also in the lore that Dvj is super strong but he cannot control it damn

Exactly my point, I made a guide on punishing u4 and explaining how evasive it is but the move so dumb that learning the punishes won't do you any good because it can beat mids even on +7. Ohh and tmm didn't explain the best punish that most of the cast can do
I think it's that the devs often don't think that far ahead. They gave that cancel mechanic to Akuma but they couldn't catch the fact that this would be a tool to minimize the character's risk on a move that would be quite busted if it was safe. Kind of like the Taunt Jet Upper. They had no intention of making the taunt useful to begin with, but Knee, the genius found out that it was possible. Quite cool if you think about it.
I feel like the only problematic thing about him is his broken cheap U4 and maybe the wall combo but thats it in my opinion. Most people don’t even use him optimally online. I very very rarely even run into DJs that can do his double electric combo.

Uf4 should be the way it was in t5 dr.. it didn't guarantee a b4 but you could run up and do db2 .. so it's less damage also not the same oki situation as b4 gives

In season 1 there was a high damage wall combo - thunder godfist (cd1, uf). Remove of b2,1 wouldn't change the damage but would make the character more intresting and hardcore.
His damage is impressive only in counter hits and rage. Not saying he's weak but he has belove average wall carry and average combo damage. He does have a good wall combo though and lows. But he's no julia fahkumram akuma geese jin when it comes to combos.

Jin's sweep doesn't allow for a wall combo/break, while Devil Jin's does, and is pretty slow when you compare it to Dvj's. As for almost everyone else, they need a counter hit to launch with a low whilst Dvj can throw out his sweep anytime he wants in tandem with his electric or laser canon to stop people from sidestepping that often. Granted, it's death on block and sidestep but uf4 is a good mid to mix up with hellsweep these days, guarantees b4 and okizeme. Besides, at least Kaz ff3 is around -2 on block and ws2 is launch punishable, while Devil Jin's ws2 is, what, -12 and tracks to his weak side as well? Furthermore, Devil Jin has far better poking than Kaz, so he has some pretty decent pressure. Kaz can really only get going when he's in the zone while Devil Jin can get started and lock down the opoonent basically whenever he wants. Stop downplaying this character

If you get hit by DVJ's hellsweep you're at the wall and his Laser cannon/Scraper whatever is unsteppable, unpunishable, mid mid mid, and pushes him back to where he's one wavedash from mixing you again.

New to Tekken, anyone have any advice on trying to pull off Electrics in general? I can't seem to get it down no matter how many times I try it. (Not sure if it helps but I main Kazuya)
Try pressing the Triangle ( aka Y, 2, RP) sooner, it's like a muscle memory hack to pull it off.. Practice this until you can pull off 5 in a row.. Good luck!
Forward, STOP, quarter circle, 2, don't stop for too long, it's less of a stop and more of a tiny delay and make sure you do the quarter circle fast. What do you use Arcade stick, ps4, ps5, Xbox, or keyboard?
Just practice more. Its is indeed very hard to do then it gets even harder in matches trying to punish using it. When getting started it helps to mentally try to press the 2 slightly before the DF. Also watch TMMs video on the electric. Its probably one of his best videos.
If you think about it, Mishimas have received pure buffs since Murray assumed the Tekken project lead. And there was already a former Mishima main in the balance team (Mishimastar). With that said, i think why these chars get the "balancing" they get, so...

i mean up 4 is not that hard to defend against if u block it u are plus and if he flies up you just step and punish him. Also DJ cant react to the lanuching part of the move so he wont get a combo if he doesnt commit to the animation of him flying so it isnt that much brain dead in the combo-ability aspect of it. However i agree that this moves evasion is crazy good.
I don't think they put as much thought into the wall combos as you think. It just so happened to be that way in season 1 and you're making some post hoc story behind it
Devil Jin is a solid character, agruably the best Mishima. One key aspect people tend to forget about hellsweeps is that they have little to no crushing. Tip stop waking up immediately when facing Mishimas, learn the floor game. Dash up hell sweeps isn't real if you understand poking (ie utilisation of your df1, or 10frame pokes). Tekken has always been mind games fiesta, it gets much deeper at high level. But DJ is far from busted when characters like Fahkumram, Geese and Akuma are in the game.
Yes, but this isn't about the other 3. Of course the other 3 are broken. This is about breaking the game from a design perspective. DVJ shouldn't have all these tools, to cover the weaknesses of his OP ones. There's a reason he's been top tier since S1.
@@DreadPyke The whole entire cast is broken if you look at it like that, the developers were going for a very offensive game for it to be fun to watch at tournaments, purists be damned. Ie. Heihachi's ff2 shouldn't hit grounded as this really simplifies his oki. Kazuya's db4 shouldnt hit grounded for the same reason.
His damage is not that great without walls except for electric which is hard to do so It's kind of understandable. He gets around 55-60 damage wall less on his staple launchers
most people have good enough execution for ewgf to land it quite reliable especially at higher level so nah his damage for the most part is quite up there with 70 dmg and even if you use the more reliable options to punish with and launch who cares? devil jin has such a good easy i15f punish in can can that is always reliable and give you what you need right now he is one of the best characters in the game and you know it denying that would just be a lie

u4, wall combo, electric tracking, hellsweep (even new one as you can get full hellsweep damage with that even on tip range), uf4. high crushing unreactable low that's barely -13 or 14 with gauranteed ch damage and plus frames and on top of that he has literally every other tool for every situation. My mishima player friend says it right "Devil Jin is the scummiest mishima"
Thing about b2,1 is that it removed the choice you had between oki and damage, in season 2 you had to actually choose between doing 1,2 b4 or 1,1 d1 / delayed laser cannon. If you do anything else other than b2 1, you're leaving too much damage on the table every time so the choice is removed. Plus that wall combo is getting so tiresome to watch lol, even when you're the one doing it. I would say nerf the damage so that the player has to choose between oki and damage. I dunno how what the frames are after that wall combo but maybe make the opponent recover faster so it doesn't have any oki.

Agreed. Once someone gets extremely good with Akuma, that's consistent damage from dickjabs, his 10f punish and whatever else he has (don't really know much about Akuma). Its crazy.

I'm trying to pick up dj and I can tell he's a great character (trying him on stick from pad so my execution is very bad) but I get conflicted on weather I could just stick with him or switch to kazya, so I was wondering if anyone knows if the framing window for electrics are different cause for me elec is easier on Kaz then dj for whatever reason
Dont listen to the guys above me. Kazuya have two inputs for electric, the normal f,n,d,df+2 and his exclusive f,n,df+2 which is actually a mist-step cancel into electric.
DJ is hard to use but devs feel that it’s fine for him to be where he is, but Steve, also comparable in technicality and difficulty gets slammed with nerf after nerf, leaving him with the only true homing move in peekaboo 2.
One of the lowest winning rate online (very wellknown matchup as a legacy character) and nowhere to be found in top 8 tournaments (high execution required).
The fix for it is so easy too, just remove this move. There is no reason he should have this wall combo. Now trying to sidestep UF4 or HS is so hard because electrics clip you. Fighting Mishimas used to be fun.
Sidestep left + duck seems to be the best way to evade the electric tracking in general, but even then if you're not fast enough it will hit you in some cases. Quite stupid, really.
Mb TMM should more attention on 2D characters(ELIZE) or DLC, and we will not need to wait a whole year until he meets in the rank. so that he understands that there are broken options here.Mishim players have gotten at least something in the last 3 seasons - they need nerf. Yeah I play against so many online warriors that use the Devil Jin Up +4 and I just have to wait or hop punch them with Steve. I think the second hit of sonic fang will catch them if its early enough. It's cheap because he has those other moves and the sweep

Devil Jin's amazing potential is talked about a lot but when I see high level matches involving him it's never really a complete shut-out. The reason I think Devil Jin is strong but maybe not OP is that he struggles with cohesion and synergy in his moves. He has all these great tools but there are few opportunities to see them working together organically to create a complete gameplan. A lot of his attacks, when blocked, don't lead into a follow up that you can build on, you're just back to neutral or even gave up your turn. With Jin I can use a blocked attack to lead into something else (like doing f,f+2 - if they try to close the gap to punish after a block I can hit them with 1+2 to throw them back). But with Devil Jin there's no momentum to build off a blocked move because his moveset doesn't have that synergy to it that gives the other characters I play reliable and consistent flowcharts and gameplans. With Devil Jin almost everything feels like I'm coming up with my next move on the fly because if I don't connect I'm almost certainly back to zero. It also means I spend a lot of time trying to pick the perfect shot because just generic poking isn't going to get returns.
With other string unlike leeroy fakhumram julia anna lucky chloe the list goes on. If you block the hell sweep its all over and both his ewgf and hell sweep can be duck and its evaded plus he lacking mid move that can launch other than his u+4 and ws 2

Exactly my point, I made a guide on punishing u4 and explaining how evasive it is but the move so dumb that learning the punishes won't do you any good because it can beat mids even on +7. Ohh and tmm didn't explain the best punish that most of the cast can do
I think it's that the devs often don't think that far ahead. They gave that cancel mechanic to Akuma but they couldn't catch the fact that this would be a tool to minimize the character's risk on a move that would be quite busted if it was safe. Kind of like the Taunt Jet Upper. They had no intention of making the taunt useful to begin with, but Knee, the genius found out that it was possible. Quite cool if you think about it.

In season 1 there was a high damage wall combo - thunder godfist (cd1, uf). Remove of b2,1 wouldn't change the damage but would make the character more intresting and hardcore.

His damage is impressive only in counter hits and rage. Not saying he's weak but he has belove average wall carry and average combo damage. He does have a good wall combo though and lows. But he's no julia fahkumram akuma geese jin when it comes to combos.

Jin's sweep doesn't allow for a wall combo/break, while Devil Jin's does, and is pretty slow when you compare it to Dvj's. As for almost everyone else, they need a counter hit to launch with a low whilst Dvj can throw out his sweep anytime he wants in tandem with his electric or laser canon to stop people from sidestepping that often. Granted, it's death on block and sidestep but uf4 is a good mid to mix up with hellsweep these days, guarantees b4 and okizeme. Besides, at least Kaz ff3 is around -2 on block and ws2 is launch punishable, while Devil Jin's ws2 is, what, -12 and tracks to his weak side as well? Furthermore, Devil Jin has far better poking than Kaz, so he has some pretty decent pressure. Kaz can really only get going when he's in the zone while Devil Jin can get started and lock down the opoonent basically whenever he wants. Stop downplaying this character

Try pressing the Triangle ( aka Y, 2, RP) sooner, it's like a muscle memory hack to pull it off.. Practice this until you can pull off 5 in a row.. Good luck!

Just practice more. Its is indeed very hard to do then it gets even harder in matches trying to punish using it. When getting started it helps to mentally try to press the 2 slightly before the DF. Also watch TMMs video on the electric. Its probably one of his best videos.
If you think about it, Mishimas have received pure buffs since Murray assumed the Tekken project lead. And there was already a former Mishima main in the balance team (Mishimastar).
With that said, i think why these chars get the "balancing" they get, so...

i mean up 4 is not that hard to defend against if u block it u are plus and if he flies up you just step and punish him. Also DJ cant react to the lanuching part of the move so he wont get a combo if he doesnt commit to the animation of him flying so it isnt that much brain dead in the combo-ability aspect of it. However i agree that this moves evasion is crazy good.
Most characters can get a decent option select on u4 too. The worst part about this move is 100% the evasion, I've had it evade my df1 before.

Devil Jin is a solid character, agruably the best Mishima. One key aspect people tend to forget about hellsweeps is that they have little to no crushing. Tip stop waking up immediately when facing Mishimas, learn the floor game. Dash up hell sweeps isn't real if you understand poking (ie utilisation of your df1, or 10frame pokes). Tekken has always been mind games fiesta, it gets much deeper at high level. But DJ is far from busted when characters like Fahkumram, Geese and Akuma are in the game.

This is about breaking the game from a design perspective. DVJ shouldn't have all these tools, to cover the weaknesses of his OP ones. There's a reason he's been top tier since S1.

His damage is not that great without walls except for electric which is hard to do so It's kind of understandable. He gets around 55-60 damage wall less on his staple launchers
most people have good enough execution for ewgf to land it quite reliable especially at higher level so nah his damage for the most part is quite up there with 70 dmg
and even if you use the more reliable options to punish with and launch who cares? devil jin has such a good easy i15f punish in can can that is always reliable and give you what you need

u4, wall combo, electric tracking, hellsweep (even new one as you can get full hellsweep damage with that even on tip range), uf4. high crushing unreactable low that's barely -13 or 14 with gauranteed ch damage and plus frames and on top of that he has literally every other tool for every situation. Thing about b2,1 is that it removed the choice you had between oki and damage, in season 2 you had to actually choose between doing 1,2 b4 or 1,1 d1 / delayed laser cannon. If you do anything else other than b2 1, you're leaving too much damage on the table every time so the choice is removed. Plus that wall combo is getting so tiresome to watch lol, even when you're the one doing it. I would say nerf the damage so that the player has to choose between oki and damage. I dunno how what the frames are after that wall combo but maybe make the opponent recover faster so it doesn't have any oki.

The example of this isnt devil jin lmao, its shit like fahk and leroy, DVJ is the best mishima but he has a shit wr online and doesnt place above top 8 in tourney. Honestly DVJ shows how far the gap between mishima chars and brain dead shit is, even with the strongest overall tools out of the mishimas and with absurd combo dmg and with u4 cheese he still falls behind them.

I'm trying to pick up dj and I can tell he's a great character (trying him on stick from pad so my execution is very bad) but I get conflicted on weather I could just stick with him or switch to kazya, so I was wondering if anyone knows if the framing window for electrics are different cause for me elec is easier on Kaz then dj for whatever reason

Dont listen to the guys above me. Kazuya have two inputs for electric, the normal f,n,d,df+2 and his exclusive f,n,df+2 which is actually a mist-step cancel into electric.

DJ is hard to use but devs feel that it’s fine for him to be where he is, but Steve, also comparable in technicality and difficulty gets slammed with nerf after nerf, leaving him with the only true homing move in peekaboo 2.

The fix for it is so easy too, just remove this move. There is no reason he should have this wall combo. Now trying to sidestep UF4 or HS is so hard because electrics clip you. Fighting Mishimas used to be fun.
Sidestep left + duck seems to be the best way to evade the electric tracking in general, but even then if you're not fast enough it will hit you in some cases. Quite stupid, really.

Yeah I play against so many online warriors that use the Devil Jin Up +4 and I just have to wait or hop punch them with Steve. I think the second hit of sonic fang will catch them if its early enough. It's cheap because he has those other moves and the sweep
I've use Steve's ff2 when DJ uses u4, beats all of his options and guaranteed d1+2
