- Tori Kelly was rejected by Simon Cowell on American Idol, but she is now a huge pop star and also the voice of Meena in the animated movie SING, where she plays alongside Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson and Taron Egerton amongst others. You're wonderful as an interviewer / reporter! Whenever you interview someone, it feels completely natural, just like a typical conversation within 2 people. There are interviewers who often exaggerate things too much, and I'm really glad you're not one of them! Excellent interview, great job! :)

People forget that her approach to the American Idol competition wasn’t very good. She attacked the judges with this onslaught of melisma, trying to force as many notes into a syllable as she possibly could, while focusing much less on a balanced and basic timbre and controlling her voice. It was just everything that was annoying about Mariah Carey and Cristina Aguilera in very short timespan. Now, it was easy back then to spot the diamond in the rough, and she just needed some guidance, but Cowell decided to go in for the kill for dramatic effect. It was a cowardly approach with a missed opportunity as a result, but she wasn’t entirely without responsibility for that mishap.
But she came out of it awesomely. All the better for everyone - especially knowing that she’s not held back by a stranglehold contract from Cowell and co.
