- Author and commentator Douglas Murray has slammed Coutts bank for closing Nigel Farage's accounts over his political views.
“We know where this leads and I would suggest that anyone who believes in freedom including freedom of the press, freedom of speech and much more should care deeply,” Mr Murray told Sky News Australia host Piers Morgan.
I wish she would stop interrupting , She does it all the time and it drives me nuts.

She's wrong, Coutts isn't a private bank. It's part of the Natwest group, which is 38% owned by the British taxpayer.
It doesn't really matter even if it was fully private it provides essential service (or even more important you can survive if your water is turned off but not if you have no mens to pay for everything) and like with all essential services it should be illegal to not provide them without at least a court order.

How is Farage being a Coutts customer a risk to their reputation, when until this happened no one on the planet knew he had an account there?!
Where does this stop? Electricity companies say no power, water companies say no water, supermarket says no food ... banking is an essential service and should not be allowed to restrict their customers like this; especially as a bank operates under the ultimate control of the government.

After bail outs Coutts is not only regulated by the government but almost 40% owned by the government and by extension the tax payer. I have read the dossier they provided to explain their decision and I can't see a single valid reason to withdraw their services in there. In fact it seemed half of it was based on nothing but unsubstantiated allegation and rumour.

I noticed today the 20th July, no mention of this on the BBC website, yet headline on most papers this Thursday, they are a public information service that we are forced to pay a licence fees, yet this was raised in the house by the Prime Minister stating that news laws will be introduced.

It is verboten to criticise globalism.
There are a few ways this could be solved. Either by law, requiring banks to only LIMIT (not decline) banking services if someone is suspected of financial fraud AND/OR the Bank of England offering bank accounts to those who don't want to run the gauntlet with banks.
The Bank of England cannot offer commercial banking services as they set interest rates, this would be a huge conflict of interest. Also it sets a precedent for government controlled banking which needs to be avoided at all cost. Regulation of the banks similar to utilities would solve all of these problems. The banks shouldn't be able to refuse services unless fraud is suspected and even then due process and a court order should be required to close an account in such circumstances.
The banks see a chance to increase their prophits if they meddle in politics and support the political system that would mean most gain. In the long run they will demoslih everything. When all is destroyed they will lift their shoulder and say: How could this have happened?
Which is all well and good but when their reasoning for dropping Farage is because of Brexit, his views on illegal immigration, being a PEP and the Russia lies told by that Labour Weasel, using parliamentary privilige so he wouldn't get sued back to the stone henge, have nothing to do with Fraud.

I've seen various figures for the state ownership of Nat West in the comments posted. I conclude that the inflationary nature of our economy is responsible and far worse than has been reported.

Well they (banks) have lost tons of personal data in the past so I guess publicly naming a customer is par for the course. Wrong but predictable behaviour. Perhaps this particular "wrong" will have significant reputational and financial repercussions. A double whammy as the public owns a fair chunk of this bank.
