  • 12:08PM in Austell,Ga is NS 288 Northbound autoracks and G1A Southbound intermodal. You can kinda hear G1A in the video blowing the horn frantically, I looked over there and a car was going around the gates, then watch as I pan on 288 passing us you'll see the car ON the crossing just barely missed by G1A on track 2 and then she stops with the end of her car sitting ON track 1 and 288 nails her @ 0:34 !!! Apparently she wasn't hurt, the conductor told me that her car was smashed bad on the drivers side rear....somehow she fled (in her car) lucky that G1A and 288 didn't sandwich her!!!

    Hi Gene,
What a catch! Hope you don't see that too often!
Just yesterday, 5-7-13, I was in Wakefield, Ma Pan Am Railways (PAR) D-2. and saw the MBTA Commuter train with F40PH #1003 named after AMTRAC engineer, Paul
Sullivan, who died in an head-on collision with a GP-9 headed on the same IRON in
Beverly Farms, MA Aug of 1981. t
That same location does not allow trains to blow their horns as it is a "no horn blowing
location". Quiet Zones=Quiet Deaths! Great vids as usual!

@ Tom Todd...the UP engines come in on intermodals and NS uses them then sends them back West, all the railroads have what is called engine hour swap, so pretty much any other class 1 can use the other RR's power if they have it available.

look, listen, live people. where im from they burned that into our brains from kindergarten, but then again im old now. another thing, dont ever stop on the tracks, if you stop your car on the tracks you deserve to get smashed. i get it if a low boy trailer hangs up but if your in heavy traffic thats just creeping or stop light or sign or whatever just dont stop on the tracks. your putting your life on those rails. Dont try to beat the train either, wiegh your options (die or be delayed 5 min) the choice is yours.

These are not leased units. It's called engine hour swaps. They are not paying UP to run this engine which is what a leased unit would be, a leaser would be for NS to do with it as they please for a preset time period, like a year or 6 months lease.

Well my opinion on the 'quite zones' is that they are a very stupid idea. These trains can sneak up on you and then it's too late, and the people that complain about the horns should just move away if they're too loud for them. After all, the railroad is unlikely to have laid NEW tracks and they have probably BEEN there longer than the people have lived there. So in closing they should have KNOWN that the train(s) come through there before they moved in.
