I’ve watched this twice. You cannot watch it without thinking “ how can I be of more use to my fellow mankind.” Poignant and important now more then ever to watch.

What a great First Lady she would have been. So energetic and unpretentious and totally devoted to her husband and family.

I always liked this woman....and then I read how she stiffed an Indiana restaurateur who hosted her son's wedding reception in 1982 and could not abide her anymore. I can forgive just about anything but when a millionairess screws a working man out of $8,000 and then dodges his phone calls and then forces him to file suit to recoup what is rightfully his, well, that is nearly impossible to forgive. Parsimonious, contemptible woman.

She is notorious for this: buying dresses and wearing them and returning them for refund: shops refused to sell to her eventually. Apparently a lot of the Kennedys were like this but she picked it up from the family and became the worst for it.

@@emma7203 Some Kennedys might've done this but it was her own mother, Ann Skakel, who was notorious for not paying bills. Shops across Greenwich hated doing business with the Skakels, because they knew they wouldn't be paid. Stray dogs would frequent the Skakel property, Mrs. Skakel started feeding the dogs, and eventually the owners would come looking for them, wanting their dogs back and if the owner took them, Mrs. Skakel would send the owners a bill for dog food.

HBO, why did you waste good money making a documentary on Ethel Kennedy, she of the teeth, one of the "rah-rah girls", as Jacqueline Kennedy called her sisters-in-law?
You have Jackie, the brightest and most elegant of them all or Joan, wife of Ted and the prettiest, but you make a documentary on goofie-toothie Ethel, a terrible mother, who literally let her children raise themselves.
I have read several biographies on John and Jackie, and quite frankly, knowing what I know about the disagreeable Ethel, I wonder why you bothered. I can't understand what Bobby Kennedy saw in her either.

Ethel Skakel was one of the most eligible Bachelorettes in the country at the time, as her parents owned Great Lakes Carbon Corporation, one of the largest privately owned concerns in the world. Bobby had dated Patricia Skakel, who was Ethel's sister, and much prettier than Ethel. Patricia, however, dumped Bobby to marry someone else, while Ethel, waiting in the wings, swooped in. Joe Kennedy wanted each of his younger sons married to the younger Skakel girls: Patricia, Ethel, and Ann. Ann Skakel, considered to be the prettiest Skakel girl, jilted Ted Kennedy.
